Intel's Light Peak Not "Influenced" By Apple, Expecting To Hit 10Gbps Speeds

Labels: , , ,

It looks like those rumours above Apple "influencing" Intel's Light Peak are false. "The unnamed sources for CNET believe that Intel had already been developing the technology and that the semiconductor firm had simply asked Apple for feedback as part of its usual requests for outside input." Keep in mind that this has the potential to be the next "industry standard" so we could see it on a couple of devices next year - including Apple devices.

"Intel has acknowledged that Light Peak can simply route data from other standards and could implement DisplayPort, FireWire, USB 3.0 and other technologies on a single connection." It seems like it will be pretty awesome and will be capable of delivering 10 gigabit per second data speed.

First Photo Of HTC's FLO TV's Box - Qualcomm CPU Included

Labels: , , ,

We heard that it's made by HTC, but it doesn't really say so on the box. The details do tell us that it has a capacitive touchscreen display, 4GB of internal storage - but we already know this. Unfortunately, the price tag is still unknown.

More Photos of the Motorola Tao / Sholes

This morning we got our first look at the Motorola Tao / Sholes Android UI. Well, this time, the cameraman actually decide to zoom out a little bit to show us a tiny portion of the phone. Google Wave Now Available To Over 100,000 People -- Closed Beta

Labels: ,

So, I'm pretty sure Google is already done sending out their Google Wave invites. Unfortunately, I was not picked out of the billions of people in this world since there were only 100,000 invites going out. I've already talked to a couple of people about getting invites on Twitter, but they won't respond. I was really looking forward to trying it out, but I'll have to stick with looking at screenshots until it comes out - which is pretty disappointing and saddening.

On a side note, maybe I'll miraculously get an invite, but I doubt it. Take a look at the link below for the "First Look" though.

Vaio X Now Available For Pre-Register On Sony Japan

Labels: , ,

It looks like the very thin Sony Vaio X ultraportable now has a pre-register website on Sony Japan here. Sony officially announced this notebook early this month and have mentioned that it will launch for less than $2,000 USD. When it gets released, the Vaio X will be the thinnest and lightest notebook to date at just 0.5-inches thin while weighing 1.5 pounds - it's made of carbon fibre. In the US, it's expected to launch sometime after October 22nd with Windows 7 pre-installed.

Keep in mind that it will get dethroned by the Adamo XPS (0.39-inches thin) when Dell launches it.

OnLive Launching This Winter - Probably 2010 Though

Labels:

According to the boss of OnLive, the service will be launched to everyone as soon as this Winter. The CEO, Steve Perlman, hasn't mentioned an exact release date, but thankfully he's given us a timeline. He "hinted" at a 2010 release date, so don't expect it this year unless something miraculous happens. A lot of people are still skeptical about how good this service will be and how strenuous it will be to your company's bandwidth. We'll just have to wait and see when things start up.

So much for that September 27th date. It looks like the Nokia N900 has been pushed back a little bit. The Maemo 5 packing handset from Nokia looks like it will be available on October 26th if you believe Amazon UK here. On the other hand, Nokia Germany's website says that the N900 will be available on October 30th. I don't know which one to believe right now, but it looks like we're looking at a late October release date.

Netbooks / Smartbooks With Google Chrome OS Coming Mid-October?

Even though Ballmer has no clue what Google is going to do with their Chrome OS (fake picture above) there's a new rumour about it. This morning, we're hearing that Nvidia smartbooks / netbooks with Google's Chrome OS could be available in the middle of next month (October), which - believe it or not - is only two weeks away. Could this really be true? This is just a rumour and we heard this exact same thing in September and I've been disappointed.

Android-Based Samsung Behold 2 Passes FCC, Headed To T-Mobile With Small 1,000 mAh Battery and 5MP Camera

Labels: , , , , , ,

So we've seen the Samsung Behold 2 before, so this is nothing new. We've seen it at the WiFi Alliance, on Samsung's own website (hidden), and Bluetooth SIG; and now it has just passed the last step, gaining FCC clearance. The Behold 2 looks like it will have: a touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 resolution, a 5MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR / WiFi / aGPS support, GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/1900 MHz) / AWS WCDMA/HSPA connectivity, and a measly 1,000 mAh battery.

This phone is headed to T-Mobile, but we still don't know when. It looks like it could be on the cheaper end of the stick, so that will be good news to some consumers.

Sprint Cutting Down Price of the HTC Touch Pro 2 To $200? -- Confirmed Coming October 1st aka Tomorrow ONLY To Big Companies

Labels: , ,

According to the latest unconfirmed news, Sprint is looking to cut the price of their HTC Touch Pro 2 listing almost in half. It launched for $349.99 on a 2-year contract and the latest rumour states that they could be cutting this to $199.99 on a 2-year contract after all of the rebates take place. This would match Verizon's offering. That is all.

Update: Boy Genius has reported that this is actually confirmed. Starting tomorrow Sprint's HTC Touch Pro 2 will cost just $199.99 on a 2-year contract after rebates. This matches the price of Verizon's offering, but the difference here is that Sprint actually has them in stock. Next up, T-Mobile's turn to cut their price too.

Update: Even though we heard this morning that Sprint would be cutting the price of the Touch Pro 2 to $199 on a 2-year contract I've got some bad news for you. Mobile Crunch is reporting that this price drop will only be in effect to customers who have 100+ lines of service aka only big companies and corporations. That definitely sucks for the average user, but oh well. Get a Verizon one. Just in case, we can wait until tomorrow if you don't believe me.

Microsoft "Courier" To Run Windows 7 and Focuses on Pen Input

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Microsoft is really looking to make a big turn around with their upcoming software and even hardware front. The Microsoft Courier looks like it will go in direct competition with Apple's iTablet since Microsoft is pegging a mid-2010 launch date for their Booklet / tablet device. Apparently, Microsoft is actually producing the hardware for this device and Courier will actually run Windows 7 when it's complete.

I feel that the main difference between Apple's and Microsoft's tablets is that Apple is focusing on touch input, whereas Microsoft is focusing on pen input. The Courier will be finger-friendly - and will have finger gestures for flipping the page and stuff - but they're focusing on pen input. I see Microsoft targeting business employees with their tablet as it seems more "professional."

New Apple iTablet Rumours: 10.7-Inch Display, iPhone OS, Integrated 3G, January 19 Announcement, May / June Launch

Labels: , , ,

No, this above photo is not a picture of the upcoming Apple tablet. But yes, we do have more rumours about the Apple tablet, let's call it the iTablet.

Apparently, Apple has tested three different screen sizes starting out with a 7-inch display and realized it was too small, so the latest version has a 10.7-inch display. This tablet is supposedly running on the iPhone OS and its physical looks are similar to an iPhone (slim, rounded back, minimal bezel). The resolution could be around 720p capable and it's not meant to compete with netbooks - "It's an iPhone OS media player and light communcation device." There will be two models at launch, one with and one without integrated 3G. The best part is that people are expecting Apple to announce the iTablet "on or before January 19, 2010, and to use an iPhone-like hype buildup period to start selling it in May or June."

Right now they're waiting on Steve Jobs to give it the "final green light" and there's an 80% chance of that happening... If you're interested, because I know you are, check out all of the rumours at iLounge here.
