T-Mobile USA Releasing the Newly Announced Motorola Cliq 2 On January 19th

Labels: , , , , ,

You may not have liked Motorola's original CLIQ but you may like that they just announced the CLIQ 2. Of course, this one's running Android and it's version 2.2 of the OS with the company's own Blur UI. Beneath the 3.7-inch display with a 480 x 854 resolution, you'll find a 1GHz CPU, a 5MP camera, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and HSDPA connectivity. Not much left to tell you here but the QWERTY keyboard looks a bit like a Honeycomb, but I doubt that the handset will even get that version of the OS. T-Mobile USA has officially announced that they're going to be releasing this one on January 19th for an unknown price.

AT&T Has 20 4G Devices and 12 Android Phones For 2011; LTE (4G) Capable iPhone Launching In 2012

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

AT&T's CEO Ralph de la Vega took the stage at CES today and mentioned a few important things. He officially introduced the Motorola Atrix 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G but also briefly mentioned that a 4G (LTE-capable) iPhone would be hitting their network next year (2012). That shatters all of the rumours about one launching this year but there could always be one with HSPA+ connectivity when Apple announces the next iPhone in June. Another highlight is that AT&T plans to launch twenty new 4G devices this year and this includes modems, mobile hotspots and, of course, phones. Check out what else BGR picked up below.

  • AT&T is accelerating its LTE deployment — it will launch LTE later this year and complete its deployment by 2013
  • HSPA+ provides “4G speeds,” and is already widely deployed
  • 20 new 4G devices will be introduced this year including modems, mobile hotspots and phones
  • De la Vega said AT&T will launch a 4G LTE-compatible Apple iPhone next year
  • Motorola ATRIX 4G launches this year: 4G LTE, Android OS, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 1930 mAh battery, 10.9mm thick, HTML5 support
  • The ATRIX 4G has a laptop dock that basically turns the phone into a full-sized laptop — very weird, very intriguing — and a home entertainment dock
  • HTC Inspire 4G: new HTC Sense UI, HTCSense.com support, 4.3-inch display, Android 2.2 OS, physical location awareness (phone rings louder when in a pocket or bag, then quiets when taken out)

Update: According to Engadget, AT&T has officially mentioned that they are planning to launch twelve Android devices this year. We just heard about three of them, so that's only a quarter of what they have in store for us.

HTC Inspire 4G Gets Officially Announced For AT&T, Launching With HSPA+ -- Hitting Telus Too!

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

It looks like the HTC Inspire 4G that we heard about last night has just bit made official. This handset is sporting a 4.3-inch display and definitely looks like the Desire HD with Android along with the new and improved Sense UI. Specs are still pretty much unknown right now but it's set for AT&T in the USA with HSPA+ connectivity.

Update: Coming from Slash Gear is word that the Inspire 4G features a Super Clear LCD display, a 1GHz CPU, an 8MP rear-facing camera with HD video recording, an aluminum body, GPS, WiFi / Bluetooth support, and Android 2.2. This will be launching in Q1 which means a few weeks from now.

Update: According to Unwired View, this smartphone will also be hitting Telus in Canada! Looks like Rogers is the only one without a 4G phone now - probably because their network isn't ready yet.

Motorola Announces the Atrix 4G For AT&T, Dubbed the World's Most Powerful Smartphone -- Even Has a Dock

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Motorola has just announced their latest smartphone with AT&T. This one's dubbed the Atrix 4G and this one's the long-rumoured Olympus from the company. This features 1GB of RAM, the Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU, a 1,930mAh (huge!) battery, and Android 2.2 along with HTML5 support. This one will be hitting AT&T at an unknown date and also features HSPA+ connectivity. Motorola is calling this the world's most powerful smartphone but I'm wondering how long they'll be holding that moniker.

That's not all though, there's also the Motorola Atrix Webtop Application which will allow you to dock your phone into a laptop and the phone will be used to power it. You'll be able to use Android on a netbook-type display and type using a physical QWERTY keyboard that you should be pretty accustomed to. Pretty awesome!

Update: Android and Me got their hands on a few more important details on this smartphone. The Atrix 4G reportedly features a 4-inch qHD display, 16GB of internal storage, dual-cameras, a fingerprint scanner, and the display of the dock is said to be 11.6-inches.

Update: According to Mobile Syrup, this smartphone will be hitting Bell in Canada as well! Awesome!

AT&T and Samsung Announce the Infuse 4G Smartphone; Sports 4.5-Inch Super AMOLED+ and HSPA+

Labels: , , , ,

Well, well, well, Samsung and AT&T have come together at CES to announce the Samsung Infuse 4G. This one features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a 1.2GHz single-core CPU, and will be the carrier's thinnest smartphone when it actually hits the market. This one does have 4G capabilities but it's actually just HSPA+ - not LTE so it may have a shot at coming to Canada on Bell / Telus. This handset is being described as a Galaxy S smartphone so it may or may not be the start of the 2nd-generation of those smartphones. This is definitely a preview for it though because early rumours are panning out to be true. We don't know when this will be available so we'll just have to be patient.

LG Optimus Black Gets Officially Announced As the World's Thinnest Smartphone

Labels: , , , , , ,

LG is holding their press conference at CES right now and the first thing they announced is their Optimus Black smartphone. This one is the "world's slimmest phone" at 9.2mm all the way across (not like the XPERIA Arc which has a curved body so it's kind of unfair). This handset sports a new (4-inch) NOVA display which is "designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility." LG is also claiming that it's the world's first smartphone to use a 2MP front-facing camera so that's pretty impressive as well. No official spec sheet was announced but we do know that there's WiFi Direct and a 1,500mAh battery. That being said, it's only running Android 2.2 and should be globally available in the first half of this year.

A new Symbian^3 powered handset has just leaked and it's obviously going to be made by Nokia. Dubbed the E6-00, this handset looks like it won't be a high-end one so it should be pretty affordable. The specs for this one have leaked and they include a QWERTY keyboard, a 640 x 480 resolution display, and a rear-facing 8MP camera judging on the pictures that this device was caught taking. Form factor is still unknown right now but it could be sporting a touchscreen. We'll have to wait for more information when someone gets it.

Verizon and AT&T 4G Devices Shown Off In An Ad; Includes HTC Thunderbolt and Inspire 4G

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Thanks to a full-page ad in the latest edition of the Rolling Stone we now know that the Verizon-bound HTC handset is confirmed to be the Thunderbolt. Of course, this will have 4G (LTE) capabilities and sports a design very similar to the Desire HD which is a great thing. This should be available soon.

That's not all though. The ad also shows off a 4G device for AT&T, the HTC Inspire 4G. This one is also clearly running Android along with the Sense UI. This is likely have just HSPA+ connectivity on-board so hopefully this hits Bell or Telus in Canada because they've had their HSPA+ network up and running for over a year now. Of course, this isn't true 4G, but T-Mobile USA is doing the same thing with their marketing. Specs are unknown for this one right now, but it could be similar to the Thunderbolt. You can look out for both devices to be announced in the very near future.

Android-Based Samsung i520 Surfaces Online, Could Be An LTE Verizon Device

Labels: , , ,

Coming from OffWire is word of a new Android phone that has surfaced online; this one's wrapped in a case that you'll be able to buy from their website that actually gives the phone an alien-like look to it. This one's the Samsung i520 and it doesn't look like it'll be a high-end one to me. Apparently though, this device popped up with a Verizon 4G symbol so maybe this will be their LTE-capable device for the carrier but it doesn't look too appealing. You can clearly see that the handset has a front-facing camera as well as physical buttons. It also appears to have a curve on the back similar to the Nexus S that they built. Maybe this is the next Galaxy S from the company but it looks like a cheap mid-end handset to me. We'll just have to wait and see now.
