Internet Explorer 8

Labels: , , , ,

It will finally be released tomorrow at noon EST. Microsoft is using the MIX 09 conference for Web developers "as the launchpad for IE 8." In the picture, IE8 will evidently have their own private browsing mode, called "InPrivate", which is no surprise. For more details, regarding Internet Explorer 8, go to the CNet News link here.

Why Safari Is Not My Main Browser; Exploited In Seconds

Labels: , , , , , ,

At the Can SecWest security conference, Charlie Miller (pictured) won $5,000 for exploiting a hole in Safari in just "10 seconds or so." Talk about a fast exploit. It works after the computer user clicks on a malicious URL. Miller is also recognized for hacking a MacBook Air in under 2 minutes, for that he won $10,000. He did this Safari exploit at the "Pwn2Own" contest earlier today. Unfortunately, he is unable to unveil his exploiting secrets, but he did tell Apple how he did it so that they can fix it up. TippingPoint sponsored this contest and they are also offering $5,000 "for each new exploit demonstrated in the major browsers and $10,000 for each successful exploit in the major smartphones, as well." This guy seriously must make a living out of this kind of stuff and I don't blame him. This is only his side job, since he is a principal security analysis at Independent Security Evaluators. I'd make fun of him, but he might start exploiting Chrome to "Own" my computer, so I am not going to do that.

Chrome Experiments Make Debut

Labels: , ,

Google has launched a new site called Chrome Experiments that shows off "new and fun uses" for JavaScript. Their browser, Google Chrome, has one of the fastest JavaScript engines out there, called V8. "The results of their experimentation have been great, with each project turning the browser window into an interactive application, a game, or even a piece of art. Whether you're a casual web surfer or an advanced JavaScript developer, we think you'll appreciate what they've achieved." This is simply amazing stuff. There is a short compilation of what they've accomplished so far, in a short video below. So far, this is only a preview of what can be done. Google is, again, taking it to the next level with functionality. Their extensions will definitely be top-notch.

Americans Get The White Nokia E71 After All

Labels: , ,

After my bragging this morning about Canada joining Europe in selling the white Nokia E71, it looks like a couple of Americans will [after all] be receiving the white E71. Cincinnati Bell (around the state of Ohio) will be selling the white E71 for free on a two-year contract. I think this is a better deal than Rogers $99.99 CAD with a three-year contract, and this seals the deal. Americans do get everything cheaper.

Shuttle X50 is Fairly Exciting

Labels: , , ,

Who needs desktop PCs when you can carry around your all-in-one PC anywhere you want. Introducing the Shuttle X50 with a 15.6-inch touchscreen and it comes with a built-in handle, so you can carry it where ever you want to. As you can see in the second picture, the handle can also be hidden and used as a stand for your table /desk. The Shuttle X50 also has a dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, 160GB HDD, the Intel GMA 950 graphics card, an integrated webcam, 5 USB ports, a 5-in-1 card reader and it even has a VGA port. It only weighs 7.9 pounds which is about the same as a notebook and the X50 is running on Windows XP. Unfortunately, the all-in-one PC does not have multitouch, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal. Word has it that the Shuttle X50 will be available later this month for only $499 USD.

Google Chrome Extensions

Labels: ,

Google is working on extensions for Google Chrome and that is no surprise. But, something that did surprise me today is the fact that Google has recently published a Google Chrome extension tutorial for developers already. You can view the How-To Extension guide, via the Chromium Developer Documentation. The extensions reportedly have "Greasemonkey-like functionality: you identify which web pages should be modified, plus JavaScript to be added to those pages." "Right now, you can only load one JS file, but that could change in the future. You also can't currently load Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), but that might also change." I'm so excited for Google Chrome extensions because I believe it will boost their market share by a couple of percent.

White Nokia E71 Now Available in Canada; Take That America

Labels: , ,

The Nokia E71 is available in America, but it only comes in black. Rogers is now selling a white Nokia E71 in Canada. America is now feeling lonely, now that the white E71 is only available in Europe and Canada. The only difference between the white and the black E71 is the colour, so it's not that big of a deal. The E71 does have a 2.36-inch QVGA display, WiFi, HSDPA, aGPS, "support for native 3G bands", a 3.2MP camera and it obviously has a QWERTY keypad. It's also only 10mm (1cm) thin and is now on sale at Rogers Wireless for $99.99 CAD on a three-year contract.

World of Warcraft Mountain Dew

Labels: , , ,

This is the return of the Mountain Dew Game Fuel targeted at gamers, more specifically World of Warcraft gamers. To target the World of Warcraft crowd they have slapped on an Orc for the red flavour and a Night Elf for the blue flavour. Apparently, Mountain Dew chose plastering WoW on the cover of their drink instead of Halo 3, so too bad for them.

ViewSonic Working 22-Inch Notebook

Labels: , ,

ViewSonic usually focuses on their low-priced LCD monitors or TVs, but according to DigiTimes they are working on a 22-inch notebook and other regular sized netbooks. Keep in mind that the picture above is not the rumoured 22-inch mammoth laptop, it's just a terrible photoshop of a ViewSonic monitor slapped onto an ugly-looking keyboard. Unforunately for those of you who are actually looking to lug around a 22-inch beast, you will actually have to live in China to get the notebook. I'll get you more information on ViewSonic's 22-inch notebook and other netbooks when it is announced.

SmartQ 5 PMP Is Cheap

Labels: , , , ,

The SmartQ 5 PMP is going head-to-head Cowon P5 and the only way it could possibly compete with it is if it has a small price tag. The SmartQ 5 does just that. The 4.3-inch touchscreen display with a 800 x 480 resolution is going to run on Ubuntu for a low price of just 899 Chinese Yuan (about $132 USD). Keep in mind that this PMP does have Bluetooth, WiFi and it even has GPS via USB. Unfortunately it doesn't have 3G, but it probably won't be released here anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Capcom Putting PS1 Classics Onto The PSN

Labels: , , , ,

Capcom is going to push themselves to get more of their PS1 classics onto the PSN in order to gain more revenue and to make their fans happy. This would be exciting for me, if I had the PS3. I'm still excited because this means a possible Marvel vs Capcom on the PSN, how sweet would that be? That's just about the only PS1 classic from Capcom I'd want on the PSN. Give me Marvel vs Capcom and we'll be on good terms.

Devil May Cry Ships 10 Million!

Labels: , , , , ,

Capcom's Devil May Cry franchise have now shipped 10 million units. This may not be the most gigantic news out there, but this is an amazing feat for Dante (main character in DMC). I am proud to say that I actually bought Devil May Cry 3, three times. The first two times, I bought it for myself and the third time was for my uncle (He's only 23, don't worry). DMC 3 was great and around the release of DMC 4, I really wanted it. But without a PS3, what was the point? I really, really wanted to get PS3 just for DMC4 because I enjoyed DMC3 so much. DMC might not have sold 10 million units yet, but they have shipped 10 million units, so they're almost there.

iBUYPOWER's Gamer Power 706

Labels: ,

This right here, is a decent bang for you buck. For just $710 USD you get the iBUYPOWER Gamer Power 906. This company managed to pack in an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, the NVIDIA 9600GT graphics card, a 500GB SATA HDD with an extra bonus of 4GB of system, but it only comes with 1GB of RAM. The RAM is the only let down and you'll have to upgrade to have Windows Vista run well on this system. Don't forget that the base price is only $710 USD and it is available now.

Mobile Firefox (Fennec) Beta 1; Only For Nokia N810

Labels: , , , , , ,

If you remember a couple of weeks ago, Mozilla renamed their mobile browser, Fennec, to Firefox. Well, around that time, Fennec was available but in a barely usable state. Now, Firefox Mobile has just hit Beta 1 but is actually only available for Nokia's internet tablet PC, the N810. It has add-on support already and actually comes with a couple of extensions, which is a nice bonus. Unfortunately, no mobile phones can even use this browser, but it shouldn't be too long before Mozilla has a working version for handsets. Maybe Mozilla is focusing too much on this mobile browser, hence why we won't see Firefox 3.5 until June.
