Digitimes Claims Windows Mobile 7 Is Launching This Year (September)... Or Next Year

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nothing's confirmed right now but Digitimes is reporting that a couple of manufacturers are looking to pump out some Windows Mobile 7 phones later this year - more specifically September. This sounds like when we heard the LG Apollo and the HTC Obsession (Diamond 3?) will be launching. Of course if it doesn't come out in September it'll be delayed to Q4 2010 or even Q1 2011 in a worst case scenario.

And yes, we're hoping to hear something about WinMo 7 at MWC which is just weeks away.

RIM Patents Finger-Print Scanning, Coming To a BlackBerry Near You?

Labels: , ,

Could this be true? On February 26th, 2009 RIM filed for a patent to have some sort of finger-print scanning device. On January 12th, 2010 they actually updated this patent so maybe we'll see a BlackBerry this year with some type of finger-print scanning on it. This isn't exactly new since the LG eXpo on AT&T (IQ on Telus in Canada) has their own finger-print scanning mechanism. It'll be interesting to see if they put this technology to use.

Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M10 Available For Pre-Orders With WinMo 6.5.3 On-Board

Labels: , , , , , ,

It was just yesterday when we heard about Garmin-Asus launching the Nuvifone M10 with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on-board. Well, who wants to wait for MWC 2010 when it's actually already available for pre-orders in Taiwan. It's expected to ship on February 6th so people will already be tapping away at this before MWC even kicks off.

In case you're interested the M10 features: a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a 5MP camera, 512MB of ROM and RAM, a microSD card slot, a Qualcomm MSM 7227 600MHz CPU, and a 1,500 mAh battery. You can pre-orders yours here now for 13,900 TWD ($435 USD) - you'll also get a car holder in the package.

9-Inch Asus DR-950 E-Book Reader Pictured In the Wild

Labels: , ,

We just heard about the 9-inch DR-950 Asus e-book reader and this is the first images of it. It's sporting a black and white e-ink display with a 1,024 x 768 resolution and also comes with WiFi / HSDPA connectivity, 2GB / 4GB of internal storage, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card slot, a USB port, and even WiMAX. The body is just 0.35-inches thick which isn't all that surprising with the display being e-ink. If only they put a Mirasol or Pixel Qi display on this thing... E-ink should be extinct by now.

HTC Legend Sporting Aluminum Body and Optical Mouse, Chin Doesn't Go Away

Labels: , , ,

There's not much to tell you here that you don't already know since we basically know the spec sheet of the HTC Legend. What's somewhat interesting here is that this second render of it looks like it's sporting an aluminum body with a bit of plastic on the bottom. The part that interested me is that it still has the chin even though the chin was supposedly only there for the trackball. Clearly that was a lie. The Legend is expected to have an optical mouse instead of a trackball. Let's hope that they ditch the then when they release it.

Canada's Bell Cuts the Palm Pre To Free On Contract

Labels: , , , ,

Finally! Bell has dropped the price of the Palm Pre so that it's now free on a 3-year contract. This is likely because Telus is also set to launch the Pre soon since Bell's 6-month exclusivity on this handset is about to end. Check out the Pre on Bell here.

Pantech Unveils Sky IM-U560K Slider Touchscreen Handset For Korean Market

Labels: ,

Pantech has just unveiled another phone for Korea's market. This one's the Sky IM-U560K which is a slider handset that features a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, a DMB TV tuner, and a 3MP camera. The packaging for this handset is actually eco-friendly which is great news. We don't know when it will be launching and the price is still TBA as well.

Google's Chrome OS To Have Integrated Media Player, Working On iTunes Competitor?

Labels: ,

Don't worry music lovers. If you're looking to dive into Chrome OS later this year you should know that it will have its own integrated media player. I'll honestly be good enough with VLC, but we'll see what Google decides to do with it. This could be yet another stab at Apple, this time going after iTunes. Maybe Google is planning their own music application of some sort.

Android Lenovo LePhone Hitting China In May, Worldwide Afterwards

Labels: , , , , , , ,

A pretty awesome Android phone is launching in May of this year and we're talking about the Lenovo LePhone. This handset doesn't come with the keyboard you see above but of course you can carry it around with you if you want - it's detachable. In May this handset will be launching on China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom all at the same time. Don't worry though, it'll be launching everywhere else in the world - for the most part - "later" in the year, which probably means the second half.

Early Prototype Photo of the BlackBerry Magnum Surfaces Online

Labels: , , ,

An early prototype model of the BlackBerry Magnum has just surfaced online. This smartphone will essentially be the BlackBerry Bold with a touchscreen display - hence the absence of a trackpad / trackball. However what you see above has actually been cancelled and will be replaced by the "Dakota" which will likely be the same thing. I'm hoping for an improved Curve 8900 look with a touchscreen and 3G.

Labels: , , ,

Clove UK has just mentioned that a new accessory would be making a launch next month. In February 2010, you can expect the extended battery for the HTC HD2 to launch and it'll actually feature an integrated kick-stand for those YouTube moments. It'll be available for around £53 ($86 USD), which could be worth it if you're looking to double your battery life.

Nokia Announcing New Non-Revolutionary Phones On January 26th

Labels: ,

Thanks to recent tweets from Eldar Murtazin (from Mobile-Review) we're hearing that Nokia is set to announce some new phones on January 26th which is on Tuesday of next week. Right now we don't know what they'll be but "they won't be revolutionary" according to him. Maybe it's the Nokia C3 and C5 we just heard about yesterday.
