Android-Based Set-top Box Being Tested, Dishes Out 1080p Video

Labels: , , ,

You should already know that when Google Chrome OS comes out, it will replace Android on the netbook front and maybe it'll hit mobile phones too - that's what I'm hoping at least. Well, Android is going to attempt to take over your home. A new prototype has just tested out and this time it's an Android-based set-top box that will dish out 1080p high-definition.

The STB prototype is being positioned as “a major milestone toward the creation of a reference platform” for Android-powered home entertainment devices, with the two companies adding support for Sigma’s hardware graphics acceleration and decoding.

For all the mumbo jumbo I don't understand, check out the link below.

Xbox 360 With 250GB HDD Super Elite Bundle Spotted and Confirmed in South Africa

Labels: , , , ,

Yesterday we saw a 250GB HDD-equipped Xbox 360 bundle with two controllers and Forza Motorsport 3 on Amazon, but it recently got pulled. A couple of people out there were upset and maybe thinking that it was too good to be true. Luckily, it looks like it will actually be coming in the future.

In South Africa, the same bundle was spotted and it is dubbed the "Super Elite" console and local distributors actually confirmed that this bundle is coming this October. It will retail in South Africa for R4,999 ($644 USD) and this ad above is from local retailer, BT Games, which will have the bundle for R4,699, but it looks like Forza 3 is absent from this bundle. Unfortunately, an HDMI cable will not be included in the box.

Apple Testing 13 and 15-inch Tablets Too, Doubtful to Hit the Market

Labels: , , , , , , ,

These iTablet rumours are definitely getting out of hand and honestly I'm getting tired of reporting them day after day, but I'll do it anyway. Let's just hope I don't get upset since most of the Apple rumours are too good to be true. MacWorld was boring and the iPhone 3GS wasn't as good as the rumours said it would be. Anyways, let's get back on track.

In a possibly fake rumour, apparently Apple may also be working /testing out 13-inch and 15-inch models of their 10-inch tablet as well; these larger models were running Mac OS X 10.5, which is interesting. Steve Jobs is definitely working hard here, since y'know he's putting his soul into this. The source mentioned that these tablets were made of aluminum, which is a traditional Apple-like thing to do.

Apple testing out prototypes is not anything new, so these models could be for testing purposes only. Apple tends to test out a lot of models and choose the ones that work. A 15-inch tablet would be pretty hard to use, so I doubt it'll hit the markets.

So, about that 6-inch tablet...

Samsung m530 Now Available in Black on Bell Too

Labels: , , ,

Yes, yesterday the news was flooding about Bell launching the Palm Pre, but we forgot about the low-end clamshell phone they launched as well. The Samsung m530 is now available in black on Bell. It's available for $19.95 CAD on a 3-year contract, $69.95 on a 2-year contract, $149.95 on a 1-year contract, and $199.95 contract-free. Just in case you forgot, the m530 has: a 2.1-inch internal display, a 1.3MP camera with video capabilities, GPS support, 50MB of internal memory, and a microSD card slot. Not bad for a teen.

Sunno S800 Dual-Boots Windows Mobile and Android, 8MP Camera and 800MHz CPU On-Board

Labels: , , , , , ,

What you see above may look like the 12MP Sony Ericsson Satio (formerly called the Idou), but it's actually not. This is the Sunno S880, which is a pretty feature-rich handset. This handset has: a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display, an 8MP camera, WiFi / GPS support, and an 806MHz CPU, which is similar to the Samsung Omnia II. Another interesting feature of this handset is that it will dual-boot both Windows Mobile and Android. Pretty cool, eh?

Sony Also Planning on Social Network Integration -- Probably Free

Labels: , , ,

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that social networking sites Facebook and Twitter will be coming out this year; it'll be free to Gold Members and on a "free trial" for Silver Members. Well, Sony wasn't going to take this lying down. Sony has just hinted - or actually bluntly gone out and said - that social networking features will be implemented into the PS3. In the interview, they also went on to say that Facebook will be one of the "popular sites" involved. In related news, if it hits the PS3 it'll probably be free - unlike for the 360. By the way, Sony just reiterated what we heard back in April.

Sony is planning on implementing additional “social networking features” into the platform. Financial Times’ write-up mentions a possible “tie-up with popular sites such as Facebook,”

China Unicom Announces iPhone 3G Coming in Q4 This Year

Labels: , , , ,

Like we already knew yesterday, China Unicom has announced that they will be selling the iPhone 3G in Q4 of this year - October if we're listening correctly. As a part of the agreement, China Unicom will be selling the iPhone for the next 3 years, in which Apple will get even richer. China Unicom will be offering two different models of the iPhone 3G, but neither Apple nor China Unicom will unveil the full spec sheet of the smartphone. Of course, WiFi will be absent. The price hasn't been mentioned, but you should probably wait for it if you live in China.
