Lenovo Teases a New ThinkCentre All In One PC On Flickr

Labels: , ,

On Lenovo's Flickr account, they've teased a picture of an even newer all in one PC. I recently talked about the B500 and, clearly, this is something new. From the picture we can conclude that this all in one PC will have an integrated webcam / speakers, and will hopefully ship with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Electronista points out that we'll likely see a couple of Intel Core 2 CPUs since it'll be part of their ThinkCentre line-up.

Nokia N97 Mini Starts To Ship For €450

Labels: , ,

Nokia has just announced that they are going to start shipping their N97 Minis now. So, if you're interested it'll cost you €450 ($667 USD), which I think is a bit expensive considering all of the Android news we've been hearing about recently.

GSM Variant of the Motorola Droid Spotted In the Wild, Video and All

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

We saw the GSM variant of the Motorola Droid pass the FCC just two days ago and these are the first photos of the said handset. Surprisingly enough it looks the exact same as the CDMA version launching on Verizon next week (it's a joke, of course it looks the same). We already know that the bands are compatible with AT&T in the US and Rogers (I believe also Bell and Telus) in Canada. I doubt AT&T is planning to launch this Android-based handset, so I'm praying and crossing my fingers that this handset hits Rogers up here in Canada! Enjoy the video below with its old friend, the HTC Magic.

Samsung Shows Off More AMOLED Displays, Perfect For Mobile Phones and the Bedroom

Labels: , , , ,

This morning we heard that Samsung unveiled a couple (here and here) of new AMOLED panels and here are a couple more for you. They've gone on to show off a 3.3-inch AMOLED WVGA 3D display (above) which looks like it'll be perfect for cell phones. What you see below is a 3.5-inch WVGA display that has a slight curve to it which is pretty awesome. Below that is another one of their AMOLED 3D displays, but this one is just 14-inches - the one we saw this morning was 30-inches. The full list of what Samsung showed off is at the link below.

Albatron Unveils Their 42-Inch Mutlitouch Monitor; Releases Smaller 21.5-Inch Model For $450

Labels: ,

Albatron has just unveiled their Windows 7-capable 42-inch Optical Touch Monitor (OTM).

Albatron's OTM uses two CMOS cameras, one located in each of the top corners of the display and the sides, whhilst the bottom of the display is outfitted with reflectors. The OTM interfaces with a computer with a standard USB interface and no special drivers are needed in Windows 7.
The cameras and reflectors are mounted on a tempered glass sheet in front of the actual LCD display. The cameras then pinpoint where your finger is located to an accuracy of about 2mm and the tech means you don't even have to touch the display to be able to move the mouse cursor.

The good news here is that it does support multi-touch and gestures, the works. Although the 42-inch display was widely shown off there's also a smaller 21.5-inch sibling which is the exact same as this display and it's now available for $450 USD. If you're really interested you can check out Engadget here for a video.

Samsung Shows Off New AMOLED 7-Inch Netbook and 14-Inch Notebook Prototypes

Labels: , , , , , , ,

At FPD International 2009, there are a bunch of prototypes getting shown off. This post is focused on what Samsung is showing off. What you see above is their 7-inch prototype of a netbook with an AMOLED display. The display itself features: a 1,024 x 600 resolution, 300 nits of brightness and, supposedly, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Below are two photos of Samsung's new notebook concepts. What looks like a digital picture frame is actually the notebook's 14-inch AMOLED display that features a 1,366 x 768 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The keyboard looks pretty awesome too, it looks touch-sensitive to me. It'll take some getting used to in the real world.

Update: According to Electronista, Samsung has also shown off a transparent AMOLED display of their own, but it only measures 2-inches. The picture is below.

Samsung Shows Off 30-Inch 3D AMOLED Panel Prototype; Boasts 1mil to 1 Contrast Ratio

Labels: , , ,

Look how much fun 3D displays are! Well, this new display from Samsung is a 3D display and it's AMOLED. According to them, this 30-inch 3D display is just 2.5mm thin, has a Full HD resolution, and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Samsung has also mention that this display has shutter-glasses technology which will be sure to eliminate the dizziness that the weak folk get when watching objects in 3D fly out at you. Keep in mine that it's just a prototype for now, so don't expect to see them on the shelves anytime soon.

Intel Unveils Some Upcoming Minimum Specs On Their Upcoming Atom CPUs; Nvidia Talks Ion 2

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Here's some important Intel and Nvidia news for you today. For the Intel news just look below because Netbooked did a great job summarizing exactly what Intel had to say. Don't miss the part about the Nvidia Ion 2 below though!

First, nettops with an Atom dual-core 510 processor which will come with GMA 3150 integrated graphics should come with 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 or Linux for the OS. This can include an optical drive. All this, Intel suggests, for $299 though customers can set a higher price if they want.
For netbooks with an Atom N450 processor, Intel suggests 512MB - 1GB DDR2 RAM, Condor Peak WLAN, 16-32GB SSD or 120GB HDD. For these specs, Intel suggests a price of $249. Max screen size of 10.2-inches and a 4-cell battery. Again Intel wants to push it’s Moblin OS but customers can choose Windows 7, Linux or Windows XP.
If these are the suggested specs for the next generation netbooks, I would have liked to see what they offered for the first generation, heh.

Nvidia has mentioned that their Ion 2 graphics will deliver 2x the power that the original Ion currently offers. The good news here is that netbooks with the Ion 2 will likely be able to switch between using the Ion or the integrated graphics to save power and battery life, so that's definitely great news. Yes, I believe MacBook Pros and some Windows notebooks can do this as well.

Bridgestone Shows Off Flexible E-Book Reader Prototype, Hoping For a 2010 Launch In Japan

Labels: , ,

Bridgestone - the same company who makes tires - has just revealed a pretty interesting e-book reader. Their latest e-book reader prototype features a 13-inch [somewhat] flexible touchscreen display that sports 4,096 colours. "The panel works by using "liquid powder" that achieves the same easy-to-read, extremely low-power effect of grayscale e-paper." Thankfully, this new technology is still capable of refreshing evey 0.8 seconds, which is awfully close to current e-ink technology.

This e-book reader is hoping to hit the shelves sometime in 2010 - albeit in Japan.

Verizon Still Interested In Selling the iPhone; CEO Mentions That It's Apple's Decision Now

Labels: , , , , , ,

Although Verizon has been spending much of their time bashing the iPhone lately, we're still curious to know if they're planning to launch the iPhone sometime next year - since AT&T's exclusivity will end. Well, Verizon's CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, has just mentioned that they are interested in selling the iPhone, but they said that the final call is Apple's.

We've already heard a rumour that Apple is testing a 4G iPhone on Verizon's new LTE network, but I guess, for now, Verizon users will have to stick to getting the Motorola Droid.

Canada's Bell Mobility Launching HSPA+ Turbo Stick and MiFi Next Month

Labels: , , , , ,

In Canada, Rogers has their HSPA+ Rocket Stick (although I believe it is still sold out) and now Bell has just announced their own HSPA+ Turbo Stick, which is set to launch with their new network. This USB stick will, of course, deliver some 21Mbps speeds to whichever device you plug them into. You better line-up / pre-order one quick - when it goes up of course because these will likely sell out pretty fast. Bell will also be launching the MiFi 2372 from Novatel, which will give you some North American 3G. Both of these devices are set to launch sometime next month (November).

This tablet supposedly has a 7 to 8-inch touchscreen display and the company has mentioned that they plan to sell around 100,000 - 200,000 units when it initially launches. The release details and full spec sheet hasn't been announced yet, but I'm sure we'll hear them over the next couple of weeks. This is expected to launch in Japan.
