Android 2.2 "Froyo" Already In Testing, To Be Announced At Google I/O On May 19th?

Labels: , , , , ,

This should be no surprise but it looks like Google is already testing version 2.2 aka Froyo of their Android OS. This was hinted at with the Analytics graph you see below. They're likely just being tested out by Google employees right now. Apparently, Google may announce version 2.2 of Android on May 19th at their annual I/O conference, which will take place in San Francisco. The Nexus One may be the first handset that will be upgradeable to this version. Android 2.2 is expected to feature Flash 10.1 support, additional RAM, a JT compiler, an FM radio, some OpenGL ES 2.0 enhancements, and activation of a colour trackball. Of course, this version is set to reduce Android fragmentation in the long run.

Update: According to Engadget, Froyo has just been spotted running on an HTC Magic. At least we know that it'll be capable of running on every single Android handset that has launched so far, which is great.

WIND Mobile To Launch the HTC Magic+ Soon?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Apparently Rogers won't be the only carrier in Canada to have the HTC Magic+. If this is true then WIND Mobile could be getting the Magic+ too which is essentially the Magic with the Sense UI and a couple of other fixes. It just sucks that they had to go with this phone to start off their Android onslaught since this handset is so old already.

Rogers Launches the HTC Magic+, Sense UI and No More 911 Problems

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like Rogers has just relaunched the HTC Magic and have just called it the HTC Magic+. Of course, this handset isn't all that different from the old Magic. However, this handset has fixed the 911 issue and it's even got the Sense UI on-board, which is some good stuff - although it's still running Android 1.5. The specs stay the same so don't think you're getting extra power in this sucker. Check it out on their website here.

myTouch 3G's With 3.5mm Headphone Jack Hitting T-Mobile Stores Soon

Labels: , , , , , ,

T-Mobile's about to re-launch the myTouch 3G with a 3.5mm headphone jacks in the very near future. Right now it's only the Fender Edition that has the 3.5mm headphone jack, so they're probably just looking to sell out of the old myTouch 3G models. Try not to spread the word so that people buy the crappy model right now.

Update: According to Gizmodo, the standard headphone jack isn't the only upgrade the re-launched myTouch 3G will be packed with. The revamped myTouch 3G will also have 288MB of RAM, an 8GB microSD card in the box, Visual Voicemail, a Barcode Scanner, and Swype. It'll be available for $150 on a 2-year contract.

HTC Magic With a QWERTY Keyboard (Possibly Lancaster) Set To Launch Soon?

Labels: , , , ,

Remember the HTC Lancaster? Well, it was said to be a cancelled product but Cell Passion believes that it may just see the light of day after all. The HTC Lancaster looked like the HTC Magic but brought the addition of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. If you check out a newly spotted UA profile (here) you'll see that the Magic could be outed with a QWERTY keyboard. We don't know when and it's obviously unconfirmed but let's hope that Google isn't pushing this to be the Nexus Two - which is very unlikely.

Rogers HTC Magic Getting Android 2.1 With the Sense UI; HTC Dream Left In the Cold

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like one of the first two Android devices that hit Canada will be getting Android 2.1. It won't be the HTC Dream. It's been confirmed that the HTC Magic on Rogers will be getting the Android 2.1 update, so that definitely sucks for Dream owners. The Magic will also get the Sense UI over top of Android 2.1 so that's definitely great news. Below is what Mobile Syrup got.

“While there has been a lot of confusion regarding software updates for these devices – we want to make sure that everyone knows that Rogers has been pushing hard to ensure the best possible outcome for all customers who have purchased an HTC Dream and Magic. Although we previously announced that we did not plan an upgrade to either device, we have reevaluated based on Rogers request and agreed to move forward.
First, we will be implementing an update for the 1.5 OS to both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic in the upcoming weeks. These will offer a number of benefits for these devices, including bringing the HTC Sense experience to the HTC Magic, although the OS version will remain 1.5.
By mid-year, HTC will issue an upgrade to Android 2.1, including the highly acclaimed HTC Sense experience for the HTC Magic.
However, due to certain limitations on the HTC Dream, the software path for the HTC Dream will not be developed beyond the next Android 1.5 update. While we regret not being able to offer the same updates to both devices, by bringing this upgrade to the HTC Magic, we are delivering the best solution possible given the situation at hand.

HTC Magic Starting to Get HTC's Sense UI! Bring On the Sexy

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like HTC Magic owners are getting some good news today. We've just got word that the HTC Sense UI will be headed to the Magic! Surprisingly enough, we heard something about this back in late September, so it may not be headed to Google-branded phones like the T-Mobile myTouch 3GIn Korea, some HTC Magic owners have reportedly already gotten the update and we'll likely see it hit more devices over the coming weeks. It's unclear who'll getting it when, so we'll just have to be patient.

According to the latest unconfirmed new, T-Mobile started rolling out Android 1.6 "Donut" to their G1 owners last night and myTouch 3G owners should expect their updates to come later today - probably tonight. We don't have confirmation right now, so I'll update this post if anyone owning a T-Mobile G1 speaks up and tells us if this is true.

HTC Magic To Get Sense UI?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Well, the picture above definitely brought up some speculation. According to HTC's website, the HTC Magic in Brazil could have their Sense UI on it. This could mean that the sexy Sense UI could be headed to HTC Magic and possibly even the HTC Dream. We already heard that the Sense UI would not be headed to "Google-branded" phones, so sorry T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G owners.

Labels: , , ,

After launching the HTC Magic on Vodafone back in April, HTC's Peter Chou has just stated that they've have just sold 1 million HTC Magic handsets worldwide. This is a pretty impressive feat for HTC, but it doesn't look like they're getting the love up here in Canada. Peter Chou has also gone out to mention that they are going to be focusing on mid-end handsets for the second half of this year. He stated that 50-60& of their handsets for the rest of the year will be classified as "mid-end."

Labels: , , , , ,

The HTC Magic and the HTC Dream launched on Rogers in Canada for $149.99 CAD on a 3-year contract. Due to underwhelming demand, they dropped both of their prices to $99.99 and then again to $79.99. Future Shop has continued the trend by slashing both prices to $49.99 CAD on a Rogers 3-year contract. The sale ends in two days, so you might want to get it ASAP if you're interested. Rogers Slashes Price of the HTC Dream and Magic in Canada Again, Now Just $79

Labels: , , ,

They launched at $149 and then dropped to $99 on a 3-year contract on Rogers early last month. Well, now "The Revolution" aka the HTC Dream and HTC Magic is now available for just $79 CAD on a 3-year contract in Canada on Rogers. The contract-free price is still the same though, which is $599.99 CAD. It's kind of sad to see these phones not doing as well as I thought they would, but hopefully Android will be successful in the future.

All of these handsets aren't going to have WiFi on it because you know how the Chinese government is - see: strict. The HTC Hero will be launching in late August on China Unicom for 5,600 Yuan ($820 USD) and the lower-end HTC Click will be available for 3,400 Yuan ($500 USD).
