Although there are only a few 12MP cameraphones available now (thanks to the TI OMAP-DM515 coprocessor), we're already hearing about the successor, the TI OMAP-DM525 coprocessor which could deliver cameraphones with up to a 20MP sensor and 720p HD video recording. Technology evolves way too fast and we should see these in some phones sometime in 2010 - probably the last half. Hopefully we'll see something at CES though.

Labels: , , , , ,

If you recall, the upcoming iMac's should have a Blu-ray option. Well, it looks like Apple decided to pull the Blu-ray option "at the last minute." Likely because Apple figured that it wouldn't benefit their profits as much as they'd like. The good news here is that the mobile Intel Core i7 CPU should be powering this bad boy.

Although it's not confirmed, the latest rumours state that Verizon will be launching the Samsung Omnia II on November 1st. This is the first report I've heard about this, so don't be upset when November 1st passes and it still hasn't hit the shelves. According to the reports it's being delayed until November so that they can release the handset with WinMo 6.5 pre-installed. Could it really be true?

Even though Sony Ericsson lost a ton of money this quarter, they're still planning to launch one of the best handsets all time, the XPERIA X3. It's been almost a month since we've heard anything about the X3, and that's a bad thing. Thankfully, GSM Arena has saved the day by showing us the very first live shot of this amazing handset.

The XPERIA X3 has been confirmed to feature: a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 480 x 852 resolution, a Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1GHz CPU, GPS / WiFi / HSDPA support, an 8MP AF camera, and Google's Android OS. Those are definitely one of the best specs on a phone I've ever seen.

Update: According to SEMC Blog, the XPERIA X3 will be announced early next month - November - and will be available later on in Sensuous Black and Luster White. We'll believe it when we see it, since it's just a rumour.

Android Coming to the Creative Zii EGG Next Week

Labels: , , , ,

For a while now the Creative Zii EGG has been available (to developers), but it's been running a custom OS for the time being and not Google's Android. Fortunately, we've just gotten word via Twitter that the Android installer will be coming as early as next week. The Zii EGG is a pretty good device, it just sucks that it was fairly crippled at launch.

The Zii EGG features: a 3.5-inch 10 point multi-touchscreen display with a 320 x 480 resolution, WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support, 1080p video output, OpenGL ES support, and HD playback. We're still waiting for this device to launch for the everyday user and it looks we're going to have to keep on waiting.

I know a lot of people have been looking forward to this handset, especially since it's their flagship device. It's available on Nokia's own website (here) for $649 USD, but I'm sure that you can find a slightly better deal somewhere else.

On Amazon US' website here they're selling the N900 for $582.99 USD, but the release date hasn't been posted yet.

Labels: , , , ,

According to various reports, Microsoft could be planning to open their first set of stores on their Windows 7 launch day, which is October 22nd if you didn't know that already. "According to Wall Street Journal, the stores will sell Windows-based laptops and cellphones and allow consumers to play Xbox 360 games on a 94-inch in-store screen. It'll even have a "counter" where people can bring their Microsoft gear for help." The Microsoft stores appear to be a "nearly exact replica" of Apple's stores, so we'll just have to see how this works out - if it launches on the expected date.

Un-Jailbreakable iPhone 3GS' Get Jailbroken -- Surprise, Surprise!

Labels: , ,

Two days ago we heard that Apple was starting to ship "un-jailbreakable" iPhone 3GS' and, well, they've just been jailbroken, but it is a bit harder. In a couple of weeks though, we should see the iPhone 3GS properly jailbroken and the whole world will be in peace again.

It turns out the new boot ROM doesn't totally prevent the 24kpwn exploit employed by the Dev Team hackers, but instead just kind of interferes with it. The result? You can still jailbreakyour late-model 3GS, but the device needs to be tethered to your computer in order to boot up. It's a major annoyance, especially given how crash-happy 3.1 phones—especially jailbroken ones—can be, but not necessarily a dealbreaker.
