Bluetooth 3.0 Specs Are Official; Thank You SIG

Labels: , ,

The Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) has just confirmed that Bluetooth 3.0 + HS (High Speed) will be taking over soon. Bluetooth 3.0 will utilize WiFi to speed up transfers to 24Mbps on an 802.11g link. Apparently, it will also save more power than Bluetooth 2.0, so that's always good news - less power means less battery life used up. For more information on Bluetooth 3.0, read what Electronista had to say below:

It also uses Bluetooth's approach to discovery to create impromptu Wi-Fi connections between devices and permits both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections at the same time.

Chipsets supporting Bluetooth 3.0 out of the box are already being revealed and should be available in shipping products by the end of 2009. Some devices that use the current Bluetooth 2.1 spec can be software-upgraded to 3.0, though this is less likely to occur given the necessary work.

Apple's iPhone 3.0 software is known to implement a technology resembling Bluetooth 3.0 for supporting apps. It allows iPhone and
iPod touch devices to find each other over Bluetooth and establishes a Wi-Fi connection between at least these two devices for multiplayer games and similar short-range networking. However, the feature already works on existing iPhone 3G units, which officially only support Bluetooth 2.1.

MSI X-Slim X340 With Intel's CULV Is Expected This Month

Labels: , , , ,

We first heard about the MSI X-Slim X340 on April 1st, so at least here's something that wasn't a joke. This X-Slim X340 will be packed with an Intel SU3500 CULV CPU (5.5W of power, which is 1/6th less than the standard CPU), a 4-cell battery and this laptop should also be WiMAX-ready. If the specs revealed on April 1st are true then we should be expecting: up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320GB HDD, and an HDMI port - at the very least. This slim ultraportable laptop will be available by the end of this month, so expect it to be launched with a base price of around $1,000 USD in the next 9 days.

New Pentax DSLR Gets A "Confirmed" Name; The K7D

Labels: , ,

Remember this picture? We just saw it yesterday and it appears to be the K7D. An Austrian site has apparently "confirmed" this name. It appears to be a toss-up between the K30D name and the K7D, so we'll just have to wait until the third week of May, which is when this Pentax DSLR is going to be officially revealed.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 Relaunch In 6 Days?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Don't you love countdowns? Well, I do!! And Tu4ar.com has a countdown for what could possibly be a re-release or at least a glimpse of a new [or old] Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 - Wii fans, you lose. At first, I didn't get what Tu4ar.com had anything to do with Marvel vs Capcom 2, but thankfully, Kotaku explained it for me:

Why are people linking Tu4ar.com with Marvel vs Capcom 2? Well there's the large number 2 for starters, but perhaps more telling is the website's name. Anyone who played Marvel vs Capcom 2 for any length of time remembers the character select music, in which a soulful singer repeated "I wanna take you for a ride" over and over and over again. Tu4ar.com equals take you 4 a ride dot com.

We only have to wait for 6 more days to see exactly what this countdown is leading to. I'm so excited - even though I don't have Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, sadly enough.

Firefox 3.0.9 Is Now Available

Labels: , , ,

You now download Firefox 3.0.9 at this link, thanks to Softpedia. Mozilla was working on it all weekend just for us, they're so nice. Too bad I use Google Chrome, and I can't wait for their extensions to come out. Nonetheless, here's another version for you Firefox fans to download. By the way, where's that Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 that's supposed to be released this week. We could see it as soon as tomorrow, according to last week's news.

Facebook Fan Pages Are Getting Out Of Hand

Labels: , , ,

If you don't know already, you can create your own fan pages on Facebook. While this was under control at one point, only containing celebrities and cartoon characters such as Peter Griffin from Family Guy, people are now creating stupid fan pages, such as "Sleeping" and "Chocolate Milk." Yes, I've seen those 2 fan pages and I think to myself - what the hell? Why are people making stupid fan pages, it's completely pointless. Fan pages are getting out of hand, just like groups are and there's nothing I can do about it. I don't know why this sparked me to make a blog post about it, but I just felt like I had to. Do I really want to become a fan of chocolate milk or sleeping? Kind of lame.

2 New Google Labs Products; Google News Timeline and Similar Images

Labels: , , ,

Google News Timeline is one of the 2 features that Google launched yesterday in Google Labs. It is "a web application that organizes information chronologically. Google News Timeline allows users to view news, scanned newspapers and magazines, blog posts, sports scores, and more on a zoomable, graphical timeline." Go try it out because I can't really explain it much more than Google does.

Google Similar Images is the second feature that Google launched yesterday in Google Labs. It basically does exactly what it sounds like. "Similar Images allows you to search for images using pictures rather than words. Click on the Similar images link under an image to find other images that look like it." Take a look at the video below, if you want to know more.

Dell Relaunches The Studio 15 Laptop

Labels: ,

Dell has finally launched the Studio 15 laptop. The laptop has a 15-inch 720p capable LED-backlit display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, Intel's Core 2 Duo CPUs, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 graphics card, 2MP webcam, optical drive, WiFi, and 3GB of DDR2 RAM. It also has: 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, gigabit Ethernet, audio in / out, FireWire, and an ExpressCard slot.

The base price is $649 USD and you get an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz CPU, and 3GB of DDR2 RAM. This laptop has a lot of different options, since it is a Dell. The Studio 15 laptop has optional: Blu-ray, Bluetooth, and 3G HSPA connectivity. The HDDs also have a bunch of different sizes: up to 320GB at 7,200rpm and 500GB at 5,400rpm. Sorry for pounding you with specs, but I just thought you'd like to know a brief rundown without hitting the official site. I like the way the laptop looks, but I want a laptop with a long battery life, so I probably won't be looking at this. Go check it out on Dell's official site.

Update: Thanks to a tweet on Twitter, I must clarify that the Studio 15 is just a relaunch which includes the revamped screen. The only thing they have changed is that the screen is 720p (1,366 x 768 resolution) capable and is now LED-backlit.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Not Coming On May 11; Being Discussed Instead

Labels: , , , ,

Looks like we got just a bit excited. Windows Mobile 6.5 will not be coming out on May 11. Since the blog post was "poorly-worded" that's what it made it seem like. Instead Microsoft will be demoing WinMo 6.5 and they'll be discussing its features / functionality and stuff like that. Too bad we can't just skip it and go straight to WinMo 7, which will hopefully be much, much better than 6.1.

I-Buddie Shows Off Netbook Running Android; Still A Prototype

Labels: , , ,

I'm certainly excited about anything to do with Android right now and this is obviously going to excite me. I-Buddie's netbook running Android. While it may still be a prototype, these machines could eventually ship out to the public - that is, if all goes well. Take a look at the video below to see Android in action on this netbook. It's fairly underwhelming, so don't get your hopes up.

Toshiba TG02 and TG03 Pictures Surface!

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Recently, we basically saw the whole Toshiba line-up and I was pretty impressed with some of them. What you see above is the Toshiba TG02 which will apparently run on WinMo 6.5. In the photo though, it doesn't look like it has the so-called dedicated Windows 'Start' button that every WinMo 6.5 device is supposed to have - there seems to be a 'Home' button or something though, that could be it. Below is the Toshiba TG03. Both of the TG03 pictures look different, so it's up to you to decide whether these pictures are real or not. It's no surprise that Toshiba never really changed up the design of the TG02 and the TG03 because the TG01 already looks so sexy. Why change something when it already looks good? That's probably why the next iPhone won't look much different than the current iPhone, that's just my thoughts.

Fujitsu LOOX M Netbook Looks Sexy, Insides Are Still Indifferent

Labels: , , ,

Netbooks, netbooks, netbooks - the specs just never get old. The Fujitsu LOOX M has a 10.1-inch display, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, 3 USB 2.0 ports, and a multicard reader. Seen em all before haven't you? Well, I thought this one was worth mentioning because of the groovy design on the lid. It probably doesn't have the 8-hour battery life that I want too!! Anyways, this sucker will cost you a whopping ¥59,800 ($611 USD), which is kind of expensive when there are other netbooks that are much cheaper with the exact same spec sheet. Maybe that's why I wanted an EEE PC.

Cube H100HD 5-Inch PMP Is 1080i Capable

Labels: , ,

Cube is known for their PMPs and here's another one for you. Another 5-inch PMP, but this time with 1080i capabilities. Their last PMP was 720p capable and this one ups the ante. The Cube H100HD PMP has a 5-inch touchscreen with just about the same features as its predecessor and adds an FM tuner, "support for simple Flash games", and the 1080i that has been mentioned a couple of times already. The Cube B52HD was only $75 USD, so expect this one to be a bit more, maybe around the $100 USD mark.

Microsoft Enables Web-Based IM In Hotmail Finally!!

Labels: , , , ,

If you're still stuck on Hotmail, then today could be your lucky day. Like Yahoo Mail (with Yahoo Messenger) and Gmail (with Gtalk), Microsoft has finally implemented the use of MSN straight from your Hotmail account. I don't know what took them so long but if you're still using Hotmail, then you finally get this feature. It will roll out gradually to all Hotmail users, starting with the more important ones in USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Germany, Netherlands, and Norway. Apparently, it's already been available to users in Japan, France, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the UK. I don't what took Microsoft so long to implement this service in Hotmail, but there you have it. Gmail prevails once again.

Sharp Mebius Notebook Has An LCD Trackpad!!

Labels: , ,

Let's start off with the boring part - the insides. The Sharp Mebius PC-NJ70A has a 10.1-inch display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a multicard reader. Clearly, your regular and boring netbook specs. Where it definitely shines most is the trackpad. Sharp has managed to throw on another LCD and placed it right on the trackpad for more interaction. The trackpad is a 4-inch LCD with a 854 x 480 resolution and it's pretty neat-o. Engadget points out that "this friends, this is the future." Below is a video of the LCD trackpad in action, so make sure not to skip it!!
