Labels: , , , , ,

We first heard about the Nook "Lite" - and the Nook 2 - back in April and it was rumoured that it would be available by the end of the 2nd quarter (the end of June). This looks like it has just hit the FCC just in time (filing here) and it's labeled as an "EBOOK, WLAN, AND USB PORTS WITHOUT WWAN." VIA Reveals Four Android-Based Tablets That Won't Cost You More Than $150

Labels: , , , , ,

Two days ago we heard that VIA would be launching in five upcoming Android tablets later this year and they'll all be less than $150. The bad news is that you'll definitely get what you pay for with these tablets so don't expect anything mind-blowing. The one above and directly below we've heard of before, it's the Eken M001 and the M003, respectively. Below that there's the FirstView PX707 and the G-Link A8 (also pictured below in order).

Lenovo Cancels the Skylight Smartbook and the Awesome IdeaPad U1 Netbook Tablet, Leaning Towards Android Now

Labels: , , , , , , ,

It's a sad day for some people - including me. Lenovo has just mentioned that the Skylight smartbook and their IdeaPad U1 won't be released. They referred to the U1 as a concept and the Skylight OS found on their smartbook will be replaced with Android. They'll likely spend their time tweaking the Android UI to closely resemble their Skylight OS and they're looking to release some Android-based devices in Q4 of this year. Maybe this will include the smartbook that looked pretty good. Hopefully, they intend to release the U1 in the future because that was actually something I was looking forward to.

Motorola DROID 2's QWERTY Keyboard Possibly Leaks Out, Caught In Inventory Screenshot Too

Labels: , , , , ,

We now know that Motorola is looking to launch two Android-based smartphones on Verizon in July of this year. One of them will likely be the Shadow and other could actually be the DROID 2. Right now it's unconfirmed but the picture above could be the DROID 2's keyboard. As you can see it's a slight step in the right direction but it still doesn't look like it'll be that great to use. Oh well, thankfully it'll be running Android so you can always just opt to use the virtual QWERTY keyboard.

Update: According to another Phandroid post, the Motorola A955 aka the DROID 2 has just shown up in an inventory screenshot. This is definitely coming soon, folks!

Rumoured Asus UL20FT To Feature ULV Core i3 CPU, Unveiling At Computex Next Week

Labels: , , , , , ,

There's a rumour going around that Asus has another thin-and-light notebook up their sleeve, the UL20FT. It should be fairly similar to the UL20A (pictured above) with its 12.1-inch display with a 1,366 x 768 but inside you'll find one major difference. The UL20FT will reportedly feature an Intel Celeron U3400 CPU as a standard but you'll be able to update that to an Intel Core i3-330UM 1.2GHz CPU. There's no Turbo Boost on this CPU but it does have Asus' own Turbo33 technology. Inside you should find up to 4GB of RAM, non-upgradeable integrated graphics (big let down for some), and up to a 500GB HDD. The 6-cell battery that this notebook will use should last you around 8 hours. You should expect this notebook at Computex next week.

Samsung and T-Mobile USA Said To Be Launching a "Major" Product In July

Labels: , ,

One of Boy Genius' tipsters has just mentioned that Samsung and T-Mobile are working on a "major" product launch this July, but what could it be. All the comments and my own thoughts are hoping that it's some variant of the Samsung Galaxy S. AT&T is already planning to launch the handset and I was hoping this would be some sort of T-Mobile exclusive. We'll just have to wait and see.

This morning, there were a bunch of videos showing off the Nokia N8 and Symbian^3 on video, so here's one if you're interested. It's shaping up to be a pretty decent OS, but I still think we'll need to look forward to Symbian^4 to see something even better.

Apple Confirmed To Be Working On the Next Apple TV; iPhone 4 OS, A4 CPU, and Cloud-Based Storage -- Just $99

Labels: ,

Google TV was announced last week and Apple has just announced the new Apple TV. The next iteration of Apple TV will have the iPhone 4 OS along with Apple's own A4 CPU, 1080p HD video capabilities, and there'll be just 16GB of internal storage. The reason for this is because Apple is going to relying on cloud-based storage and it's all about streaming your videos. We don't know if there'll be access to the App Store right now, but there'll likely be support for it. Apparently, Apple will not be showing this off at the upcoming WWDC since that's all focused on the iPhone which is a let down. Back on track, the device itself is said to be like an iPhone without a screen, so it's quite small and will only have a power socket and a the video output. The best part about all of this news is that it'll be priced at just $99 - I wonder if Google TV can beat that price.

Android-Based Samsung Galaxy S (SGH-I897) Hitting AT&T In July? -- Spotted In the Wild

Labels: , , , , , ,

In the end of March we heard that the Samsung Galaxy S just hit the Bluetooth SIG with Bluetooth 3.0 and bands that would be able to run on AT&T in the US. "And now, XDA user Drayvin has pulled some APK files from the i897, including "MSpot radio", which, when installed, goes into the menu as a 10 minute trial of At&t Radio." Apparently, this phone is going to hit the carrier sometime in July but it's, of course, unconfirmed right now. Of course, this would actually be a good Android device that AT&T could possibly launch. This would be a big deal for them so we might see some strong competition for the next iPhone thanks to this phone.

Update: According to AndroidGuys, the Samsung i897 (a variant of the Galaxy S) has just been spotted in the wild clearly ready for AT&T's network - but is AT&T's network ready for it? In the picture it sports a slightly different design from the Galaxy S we know and love, but that's not a big deal. There's one picture below and a couple more if you head over to AndroidGuys' website.
