A company I've never heard of before, SurfaceInk, has just shown off a pretty sweet-looking project. As you can see in the picture above, it's a tablet that may or may not hit the market. What you see is just a prototype and will be running on Ubuntu. This tablet will be sporting a 12.1-inch capacitive display with a [supposedly] 1,280 x 1,024 resolution, a Freescale i.MX51 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, WiFi b/g / Bluetooth 2.1 support, USB 2.0, an HDMI port, and just a front-facing camera. Furthermore, the specs are not final - seeing how it is a prototype. The company is said to also be working on a 7-inch and possibly an 8.9-inch model (with Gorilla Glass) as well.

Over the weekend, a new smartbook was spotted from Lenovo that'll be a part of their IdeaPad Series. This smartbook was reportedly being powered by a Freescale i.MX515 SoC with an ARM Cortex A8 processor. Apparently, this chip will give the smartbook smartphone-like battery life, but we'll see how that works out. We'll see how well the multitasking will work on this sucker.

A small company, Realease, is looking to release a tablet in the near future - if everything works out. Dubbed the Shogo, this tablet will be sporting a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen display, Freescale i.MX37 / i.MX51 CPU options, a WebKit-based browser, a front-facing camera, three USB ports, audio jacks, a kickstand, and a Linux OS (in the video below they said that you can get Android on it if you want). Apparently, this tablet is targeted at businesses and it could hit mass-production in a few months. We'll see.

Freescale is planning to show this off at CES, this is their smartbook tablet. They're aiming this to be a low-cost tablet and will feature: a 7-inch touchscreen display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, a 1GHz i.MX515 CPU, up to 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, optional 3G support, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 / GPS support, a USB 2.0 port, audio jacks, a 3MP webcam, and a 1,900 mAh battery. The device weighs 0.8 pounds and could be available for around $200, but we'll see if they pull through on that promise.

Here's another photo of the Pegatron Freescale notebook that we spotted back at Computex 2009 in June. This time, you may notice the smartphone beside it, it's the Palm Pre. Apparently, they put these two devices together because they both use the same ARM Cortex A8 architecture. But, the Pegatron Freescale iMX515 notebook has it clocking at 1GHz. This notebook is said to have 3G / GPS support, Bluetooth, WiFi, and 720p capability. This notebook is also capable of playing 3D games and the battery is said to last over 8 hours. However, it still doesn't look like this notebook will get a release in the near future, so don't get your hopes up.

After revealing the Google Chrome OS early this morning, Google has now stated who they will be working with to make this as successful as it can be. They mentioned names including: Acer, Adobe, Asus, Freescale, HP, Lenovo, Qualcomm, and TI (Texas Instruments). Asus was an obvious option for the Google Chrome OS, since it will be starting out with netbooks, possibly via an Eee PC. HP is the largest PC maker in the world, so it makes sense that they are also on this list. Adobe will probably help Google out with the inclusion of Flash. Don't see your favourite PC maker Dell on the list? Well check out the quote below from CNet News.

The one that is notably missing is Dell. Dell is the second-largest PC maker in the world (though Acer is close at its heels), but didn't indicate it was actively working with Google on this when contacted earlier today. The company would only say that "Dell constantly assesses new technologies as part of managing our product development process and for consideration in future products."

Freescale wasn't about to be shut out at Computex this year. This morning they showed off their Android-based Pegatron netbook, which - according to Engadget - handles 720p video playback with ease. They also showed off their smartbook which has a smaller screen than the Toshiba TG01 smartphone and is smaller than other smartbooks that we've seen already. This smartbook runs Android and has a 4-inch touchscreen display as well as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Both of these products are said to be launching "later this year", so we'll see how long we have to wait for an official announcement of the release date and pricing.
