WP7 Based LG E900 and the Android Based E720 Hit the FCC; One Hitting US, Other Probably Won't

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Two upcoming LG handsets have just hit the FCC, the LG E900 and the LG E720. The E900 is the one packing a slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with WP7, while the E720 is running Android. The E900 has hit the FCC with bands capable of running on AT&T's 3G network and will be packing Bluetooth / WiFi b/g/n support along with a 1GHz Snapdragon SoC. The E720, on the other hand, packs Bluetooth support and just EDGE connectivity so this model may not be hitting North America (of course, we could see another model hit the FCC with NAM 3G support). If you want to know more then the LG E900's FCC filing is here and the E720's is here.

HTC F8181 (Smart2?) Gets Scoped Out Headed To AT&T With Qualcomm's Brew OS

Labels: , , , , ,

The render that popped up last weekend turned out to be true and it's the HTC F8181. This Brew-based handset doesn't have a name right now but it could be the Smart2. The handset you see above is running on Qualcomm's Brew MP OS and will be headed to AT&T. The Engadget exclusive has just gotten some pictures of it. Specs are still unknown so we'll have to wait around for that. It doesn't look too high-end though so don't get your hopes up.

BlackBerry 9670 Flip Phone To Be Called the BlackBerry Style?

Labels: , ,

A RIM touchscreen slider, that's the BlackBerry Torch, but we already know about the BB 9670 flip smartphone which doesn't have a name yet. Apparently, this one will get its own naming and CrackBerry has mentioned that it will be called the BlackBerry Style. I think the name is a bit girly but, of course, some guys will still go out to get them. I also think that it's an awkward name but oh well.

Microsoft To Launch the New Zune HD PMP Sometime In Early 2011?

Labels: , ,

Mary Jo Foley from ZDNet always seems to have the scoop when it comes to Microsoft and she has just mentioned something that you might want to look out for. Conveniently on the day where Apple announced their iPod refresh comes a tip that the successor to the Zune HD could be launching sometime in early 2011. Specs are still unknown since it's still early but it should be powered by an ARM CPU. Let's hope they have an even sexier design (see thinner with aluminum body) and possibly running WP7 or something.

Telus Also Releasing the BlackBerry Torch On September 24th

Labels: , , , , ,

Telus (following Rogers) has just announced that they'll be releasing the BlackBerry Torch (9800) on September 24th as well. Unfortunately, they didn't announce the official pricing but it should be for $199.99 on a 3-year contract and possibly for $599.99 contract-free. Apple Refreshes Their iPod Line-Up, Shuffle, Nano, and Touch All Revamped

Labels: , , , , ,

Apple kicked things off by announcing iOS 4.1 and 4.2 (for the iPad) but that's not what we'll talk about here - you'll have to wait until November for iOS 4.2 on your iPad by the way. We're focusing on the iPod refresh that took place today, and Steve Jobs said that this is the biggest iPod update ever. The first thing he announced was the new iPod Shuffle. After the third-generation failed, they've brought the buttons back in its small factor. It has the clip on the back and comes with 2GB of internal storage. This will cost you $49 and will be available in 5 colours (gray, blue, pink, green, and yellow) each with 15 hours of audio playback. Keep scrolling down for the new iPod Nano.

Next up is the new iPod Nano, which is being touted as a small iPod Touch. As expected, it's a plain (and small) touchscreen with no buttons on the front. On the side there's the volume button and on the back there's a clip which is great if you like to clip it. I put mine in my pocket so that doesn't really matter to me. It has a multitouch display along with 24 hours of audio playback. This reminds me of the third-gen (fat) iPod Nano so let's see how successful this turns out to be. This will come in a bunch of (they say six, I see seven) colours and they're all above for you. The 8GB model will be available for $149 while the 16GB model will only cost $30 more, at $179. iPod Touch next.

Update: The iPod Nano does not have video playback, I repeat does not. You won't be able to watch of your movies or podcasts on this device. Yup, no video playback.

Of course, this event wouldn't be complete without the most important iPod of all, the Touch. This model is even thinner and comes with a flat back. This iPod Touch sports the same retina display you'll find on the iPhone 4 and it also sports the Apple A4 CPU along with iOS 4.1 (with Game Center), 40 hours of audio playback, a front-facing camera, and a rear-facing camera with 720p HD video recording for FaceTime. You can pre-order them right now and they'll be going for $229 for 8GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB. Yes, there's no more 16GB model. They'll be available starting next week in the US (I don't know about the Canadian release dates).

HTC HD7 (Or HD3) To Launch On October 18th, With WP7?

Labels: , , ,

The HTC HD2 was quite a hit when it was released but WinMo 6.5 was making it lag behind the rest of the market. The successor, supposed to be called the HD3, could actually be called the HD7 since it'll be running on Windows Phone 7. This kind of make sense but, of course, it kind of doesn't as well. Anyways, specs are still unknown right now but the leak above says that it could be launching on October 18th.

Rogers Releasing the BlackBerry Torch (9800) On September 24th For $199

Labels: , , , , ,

Rogers has just announced something great coming from RIM. The Torch (9800) will be hitting the carrier on September 24th - a day before my birthday - for $199.99 on a 3-year contract. Rogers has gone on to mention that they'll be the first carrier to launch this smartphone (update: not) but Bell and Telus should have the Torch soon after. If you're in need for a BlackBerry, this is the best one you'll find. Check out the announcement on Rogers.

Labels: , ,

MSI has just unveiled one of their new nettops, dubbed the WindBox III. Obviously, from the picture above you can see that you can mount it to the back of your monitor with a VESA mount. This fanless nettop doesn't pack an Atom CPU, instead the company went for an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU with a GS45 Express chipset. Inside you'll find WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth support, and 4GB of RAM. Ports include DVI-D, DVI-I, six USB 2.0, audio jacks, and two mini-PCIe. The price and release date, of course, haven't been mentioned yet.

Labels: , , ,

Lenovo has released another notebook, the IdeaPad U165, but it looks like it's only available in one place. Out of all the places in the world, it seems to only be available in the Czech Republic. Motorola Milestone 2 Gets Officially Announced, Promo Video Back Up

Labels: , , , ,

Yesterday, Motorola already briefly pulled the curtain on the Milestone 2 but it looks like today was the official announcement. The Milestone 2's promo video is back up today, so you can check it out below. Back to what the phone has, nothing should be surprising because the Verizon DROID 2 is something to go by. That means the phone features a 3.7-inch display (480 x 854 resolution), an improved slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 1GHz TI OMAP SoC, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (8GB card in the box), and Android 2.2 with the company's own Blur skin. If you're interested, you can even use this device as a 5-device hotspot so that's pretty great if you want to use your laptop or something like that. This is going to be invading Europe in Q4 of this year (who knows if and when it will Canada though).

LG Shows Off the World's Thinnest OLED TV, Just 2.9mm Thin

Labels: , , , , ,

As expected, LG is showing off their beautiful displays and this is including the world's thinnest OLED TV, which sports a 2.9mm thin body. That's absolutely insane and I actually just verified with a ruler that it's damn thin. The price is still unknown but right now that's all LG has up for display. Of course, it's just the beginning and I'm sure that LG is just dying to show us what else they have in store for the rest of the show. Say, that 180-inch 3D plasma or the THX-Certified 3D plasma.

Who Knows What the Samsung (SPH-M920) Transform For Sprint Will Be?

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like another Samsung handset, has just leaked out prematurely. Dubbed the SPH-M920, it could be hitting Sprint as the Transform. We don't know why it's called that but that could be because it has some transforming capabilities like a magic slide-out QWERTY keyboard or something like that. Specs are unknown right now even though this handset just hit the FCC. Engadget points out that this handset did also hit the WiFi Alliance and sports WiFi b/g/n support so that's a positive. Maybe we'll see this unveiled soon, sporting Android.
