Intel Core i5-580M 2.66GHz Launching This Fall, Turbo Boost Bringing It To 3.33GHz

Labels: ,

Intel is looking to launch at least another Arrandale mobile CPU in Fall of this year. This will include the Core i5-580M which will replace the i5-540M and will step up the 2.53GHz clock speed to 2.66GHz. It's going to consume 35W of power and will keep the Turbo Boost technology to bring the clock speed all the way up to 3.33GHz (up from 3.06GHz). The integrated graphics will be increased to 766MHz as well - up from 500MHz. This is pretty similar to the Core i7-620M CPU, except the (L3) cache of the Core i5-580M will be using 3MB instead of 4MB which is what you'll find in the i7-620M. This is funny because Apple just refreshed their MacBook Pro line-up and this Core i7-620M model is the fastest one you can get.

Electronista mentions that this could be implying that the Core i7-620M could be getting upgraded in the near future as well.

HP Releasing Tablet Before the End of October, No Plans On Bringing WebOS To Netbooks

Labels: , , , , , ,

According to Digitimes, HP's Taiwan VP has just mentioned that their tablet is set to launch before October of this year. Right now, we don't know if this one will have Windows 7 or WebOS, but I'm hoping that it's the WebOS-based "Hurricane". Unlike Google's Android, HP mentioned that there are no plans for WebOS to hit netbooks.

Okay, so apparently the HTC Vision could be something to look forward to. Google TV Gets Officially Unveiled, Sony Launching Theirs In Fall

Labels: , , , , , ,

Google unveiled their Google TV project at Google I/O yesterday. They're going to try to eliminate the need for channel hopping by integrating Google's search to find whatever you need. Thankfully, you'll be able to use Android devices as a remote but there'll also be remotes with QWERTY keyboards as well (like the Logitech Harmony one). The browser on-board is Chrome so there's no surprise that Sony is joining the party (they already have Google Chrome pre-installed on their Vaio line-up of PCs). There'll also be full Flash 10.1 support because Google is so "open". The "Google TV-specific" Android SDK will be launching in early 2011, so it's still about half a year away - there'll be an Android Market for these TVs as well. There's a video below so don't miss it! It'll explain things much clearer.

Update: According to Engadget, Sony - as expected - will be the first company with a Google TV and you'll find it in an HDTV or a Blu-ray set-top box. This will be available starting this Fall. Logitech will be launching their own "companion box" as well and this will be bundled with the QWERTY Harmony remote. It'll be powered by Android 2.1 and will have an Intel CE4100 Atom CPU inside. DISH Networks will also be on-board with this as well, so look out for it to hit Best Buy's in Q3 of this year.

MSI "SketchBook" Is a Wild Concept; Keyboard On One Side, Graphics Tablet On the Other

Dubbed the "SketchBook" - for now at least - sports a rotating base that has a keyboard on one side and a full-size graphics tablet on the other. We don't know if this will hit the market so the price and release date is still being determined. There was a non-functioning prototype shown off at an Amsterdam event yesterday, but that's just about all the details we know right now.

This includes Orange, Telefonica (O2 / Movistar), Verizon, and SK Telecom. Of course, we don't know if they'll all get the same phone or one for each carrier so we'll have to wait.
