Eclair Now On Display At Googleplex; It'll Likely Launch Before the End of the Year

Labels: , ,

Like when the Cupcake and Donut showed up at Googleplex, the next big thing has just arrived. Meet the Eclair which is now on display at the Googleplex. If it's delayed until Q2 2010, I doubt they'd put this up already, so this is very good news. I'm now expecting Eclair to hit phones before this year ends - possibly debuting on the Sholes. Android is the future. Check out the links below for a three-part video.

AT&T Now Selling the Dell Vostro 1520 Notebook For $633 With a $60 Monthly Plan

It looks like AT&T is now offering the Dell Vostro 1520 notebook for as low as $633 USD on a 2-year $60 monthly contract, which includes a 5GB DataConnect data plan. Right now, AT&T hasn't released a full spec sheet of the Vostro they are selling, but the base model on Dell's website goes for $519, so we're hoping it'll be much beefier.

Finally! This is officially the best picture of the Motorola Sholes that we've got to date - thanks Boy Genius. Clearly, it says that it's running firmware version 2.0, which could possibly be changed to 1.6 when it becomes officially official - since we heard that Android OS 2.0 is likely delayed until Q2 2010. HP Mini 311 Can Run Mac OS X, Still Some Problems Though...

Labels: , , , , , , ,

In case you're thinking about putting Apple's OS X on your HP Mini 311 there is good news for you. Well, the good news is that right now those OS X hackers have ported it successfully to said netbook. And, for the most part, it's functional; the whole display, Nvidia Ion graphics, Ethernet port, card reader, Bluetooth, and integrated webcam all work, but there are still some kinks to work out. Apparently, the sound, WiFi, and sleep / resume functions aren't working. I guess you should just stick with running Windows 7 on this netbook for now.

Leaked Motorola Roadmap Shows Us 3 Upcoming Devices: Sholes Tablet, Motus and Zeppelin

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to this leaked Motorola roadmap, the "Sholes Tablet" should get launched in Q1 2010. This could possibly be the Motorola Flash and possibly also the "non-keyboard model" of the Sholes that we heard about earlier this month. In the roadmap above it clearly says that the Sholes Tablet will have the same 3.7-inch display as the original Sholes and it'll have an upgrade 8MP AF camera with a xenon flash that can record 720p video. It'll be exciting to see what this "tablet" turns out to be.

The leaked roadmap also shows the Motorola Motus and the Zeppelin. I believe we haven't heard about these handsets before, but they both have similar specs, that's: a 3.1-inch display with a 320 x 480 resolution, a 5MP AF camera, and WiFi 802.11 b/g. However, the Motus appears to have a touchscreen and the Zeppelin does not. Engadget points out that we could be seeing them at CES 2010.

The latest rumour has is that WIND Mobile will be launching the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the HTC Snap, the Android-based Huawei U8220, and a Samsung handset that will have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Their stores won't have cash desks, so it'll all be digital inside - which may confuse some customers. Like the Rogers store in Toronto, all WIND Mobile stores will have the Microsoft Surface. Anyways, WIND Mobile should launch by the end of this year - either next month or December.

Acer Unveils Their 3D Notebook, the Aspire 5738DG

Labels: , , , ,

As a variant of the AS5738PG that we just saw earlier today, Acer will also be launching the Aspire 5738DG. The exciting part about this laptop is that it will have 3D support, which you'll be able to see by using your 3D glasses. Acer hasn't mentioned the complete spec sheet, but I assume they'll be somewhat similar to the 5738PG, besides the fact that it'll have Nvidia's 3D hardware components. This notebook will be able for £950 ($1,515 USD), but the release date hasn't been mentioned yet.

First Sprint WiMAX Device To Run Android, Eclair Delayed Until Q2 2010 and Other Android Rumours

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Some big Android rumours have been popping up online, right now there's 3 of them. Apparently, Sprint is looking to launch their first 4G (WiMAX) handset and it could be running Android - and possibly coming from Samsung? Another rumour is that "Eclair", which is the codename for Android OS 2.0, isn't expected to launch until Q1 2010, so it's quite a ways away. The last rumour is that INQ is currently trying to work out a deal with a carrier so that they can launch their handsets on there. Their Android handset will be coming in 2010 with their own customized UI with social networking integration, of course. Other Android rumours are disappointing though: no Android handset from LG this year, no TomTom (GPS) app this year for Android, and "no standalone Google Maps navigation software."

Update: Seeing as the Eclair is now on display at the Googleplex I highly doubt that we'll see a Q2 2010 launch. I'm telling you to expect it this year.

Toshiba Announce Multi-Touchscreen Capable Satellite U505 and M505 With Windows 7

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Since Microsoft's Windows 7 has touch capabilities built into the OS, manufacturers are looking to capitalize on that by making their notebooks touchscreen capable. Another maker not shying away from this world is Toshiba. They have just announced the Satellite U505 Touch (above) and the Satellite M505 Touch - as the name implies they both have multi-touchscreen displays. The only difference I can spot between the two is, likely, the look and the U505 has a 13.3-inch display, while the M505 has a 14-inch display.

Both notebooks appear to have: an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, a DVD burner, an HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, a 6-cell battery, and, of course, Windows 7.
