Motorola Milestone Now Available On Expansys In the UK

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

We already knew that the Motorola DROID would be available everywhere else as the Milestone and it has just hit the UK. For £449.99 ($732 USD) you can get this handset unlocked over at Expansys. You can always get it for £49.99 ($81 USD) if you're interested in being locked on a 2-year contract with T-Mobile UK. Either way, get the Times Gadget of the Year now!

Motorola Sholes Tablet Possibly Spotted In China; Headed To China Unicom as the XT701? SMH.

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

For some reason, the rumours on the Motorola Sholes Tablet are starting to pick up. It's been three days and this is the third supposed leak of the said handset. In China, this handset has been spotted, but it only has a 5MP camera, which could be tipping the fake hats at this point. However, it does sport: a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, an FM radio, Android 2.1, and possibly even an HDMI port.

It's from China - could be headed to China Unicom as the XT701 - but maybe it's just the Motorola Tao. That's my guess at least, maybe Motorola plans a couple of models for the Sholes Tablet. Let's wait and see.

Fake Motorola Sholes Tablet Pictured In the Wild Again; Actually Just a Photoshopped Omnia II

Labels: , , , ,

Okay, this is a much better picture. Gone is the blue backing and this is a much clearer picture than I would've expected. This is supposedly a picture of the Motorola Sholes Tablet. The handset is expected to have: a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, an 8MP AF camera with a dual-LED flash, and an 800MHz CPU. The HDMI port was seen a couple of days ago, and let's hope that becomes a reality.

Update on December 4th: According to Slash Gear, it's a fake. This has been confirmed to be a photoshopped Samsung Omnia II. As you can see in the picture below, it resembles the Omnia II's camera. I've added a picture of the Omnia II's back as a comparison.

First Pictures Of the Motorola Sholes Tablet Leak Out! Sports HDMI Port.

Labels: , , , , ,

What you see above is possibly the first picture ever of the Motorola Sholes Tablet. We don't know what the official name will be, but we'll just call it that for now. This smartphone will have: a 3.7-inch toucshcreen display with a 480 x 800 resolution, the same TI OMAP 3430 550MHz CPU as the DROID, a 3.5mm headphone jack, UMTS/HSPA connectivity, an 8MP camera with a xenon flash, and Android 2.0 (possibly 2.1 at launch). To make things even better it sports an HDMI port!

The actual phone doesn't look quite as thrilling though. As you can see it has a blue backing and the handset itself doesn't look all that thin. Man, I'm (still) excited!

Android 2.1 Ready For Release On December 11th?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Android 2.0 has been out for about a month on the Motorola DROID and it looks like Google is already going to release Android 2.1 in the near future - December 11th to be exact. If the rumour is true, it could be making its way to the DROID, the Droid Eris, and even the HTC Hero - as we saw in the leak the other day. This won't be that big of a change, but it should fix some problems that were found in Android 2.0.

It looks like Verizon's Motorola DROID has just gotten some price cuts already. Amazon (here) has cut the price of the DROID to $149.99 and Dell (here) has cut it even lower to $119.99. It's still going for $199.99 on Verizon, but I'm pretty sure you'll be interested in these deals as well.

O2 and T-Mobile UK Tested and Decided Not To Launch the Motorola Milestone / DROID

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Well, it looks like there are some carriers in the UK that tested out the phone some 6 months ago and actually didn't want to launch it. Yes, I'm looking at O2 and T-Mobile. They will not be launching the Motorola Milestone / DROID. They thought it had a lot to offer, but in the end they decided not to launch it. Oh well.

Verizon Planning To Release 15 Smartphones By Year's End; Storm 2, Omnia II, Curve2, HTC Dragon, Motorola Calgary

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to Boy Genius' trusty sources if the Motorola DROID sales go well, Verizon is going to release up to 15 smartphones by the end of the year - even if there are only less than 8 weeks left. We could see: the HTC Dragon / Passion, the Curve2 (Curve 8530), the Motorola Calgary, the Storm 2 and, hopefully, even the Samsung Omnia II by the end of the year. We'll just have to see when it all goes down. I believe Verizon is holding an event on November 5th, so we could hear some more smartphone news then.

Overseas the Motorola Milestone (Motorola DROID) Will Have Multitouch Support

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Although there's no multitouch support on the Motorola DROID in the US - by default at least - it looks like the Motorola Milestone that's set to launch overseas will have it. Motorola has just officially announced the Motorola Milestone for Europe and it will come with multitouch support - aka pinch and zoom - but it won't have Google's awesome turn by turn navigation. Check out the video below for some multitouch action.

O2 Germany Launching the Motorola DROID as the Motorola MILESTONE -- T-Mobile Launching the Sholes / Sholes Tablet As Well?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

We've just gotten confirmation that the Motorola DROID will be launching on O2 Germany. It'll be taking on a new alias, the Motorola MILESTONE. It's launching on November 6th in the US on Verizon and it'll be launching in the week of November 9th over there. The consumer price hasn't been mentioned yet, but it'll be available for €404.20 ($595 USD) contract-free for businesses. If you don't believe me, you can check it out on O2's site here.

Update: According to Tmo Today, the latest unconfirmed news states the the Sholes [UMTS] / Motorola DROID could be headed to T-Mobile. And, that's not all. According to the image below we could also see the Sholes tablet launch on T-Mobile as well - which would bring a better 8MP camera and no QWERTY keyboard. Keep in mind that this is a rumour.
