Nexus One Being Sold Exclusively By Google On January 5th For $530 Unlocked; $180 On T-Mobile Plan

Labels: , , , , , ,

A lot of Google Nexus One news popped up yesterday, but I couldn't muster up a post about all of it since I was busy sleeping in bed after getting some food poisoning. All of that aside it looks like the Nexus One will be sold exclusively by Google. We're hearing that it'll launch on January 5th for $180 on a T-Mobile USA Even More contract or you can get it for $530 unlocked (via Boy Genius). $530 unlocked is definitely not a bad deal (at least I think so), and I'd actually scoop one up if I could.

To kick off the Nexus One launch it also looks like Google will be holding an event for Android on January 5th as well. If this opens up in Canada as well (and it will ship outside of the US), you'll be able to use it on WIND Mobile's 3G network.

• Yeah, it’s $530 unsubsidized. Google’s not going to be selling the phone at cost, like so many people considered. They’re not going to save us from the “making money off of hardware” culture we’ve got right now, so this is basically just another Android handset, albeit a really good one
• If you want it subsidized, you’ll have to sign up for a 2 year mandatory contract
• There’s only one rate plan: $39.99 Even More + Text + Web for $79.99 total
• Existing customers cannot keep their plan if they want a subsidized phone; they have to change to the one plan, and this only applies to accounts with one single line
• If that doesn’t fly with you, you have to buy the $530 unlocked version—this actually might save you money over two years if you already have a cheap plan
• Family plans, Flexpay, SmartAccess and KidConnect subscribers
must buy the phone unlocked and unsubsidized for $530
• You can only buy
five Nexus One phones per Google account
• There is language in the agreement of shipping
outside the US
• Google will sell it at google.com/phone, which explains what they were doing with that page
a few weeks ago
• Google will still call it the Nexus One apparently, and not the
Google Phone

Google Nexus One Bluetooth Dock Passes FCC; Ugly Car Clip Spotted In the Wild Too

Labels: , , , , ,

Spotted at the FCC this morning is a new Bluetooth dock for the Google Nexus One. At this point, I don't know why the dock has Bluetooth, since the Nexus One itself has Bluetooth, but we'll have to wait and see when this all goes down early next year. Check out the FCC filing here.

Update: There's also another Nexus One product that was spotted and it's below (courtesy of Engadget). It's the Nexus One car clip and someone decided to snap a picture of it in their car. Luckily when you place the phone on it, it hides the ugly.

Google Nexus One Lacking Multitouch; Possibly Launching On January 5th

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

This is probably the worst news of last week. The beloved HTC / Google Nexus One looks like it's the perfect handset, but it has one major flaw. There is reportedly no multitouch on this damn thing. How can it be an "iPhone killer" without multitouch, it doesn't make sense to me to be honest. Keep in mind that this means there is no multitouch in Google Maps or in the browser, which is just disappointing. Of course, it will be capable of running on T-Mobile USA's 3G network (and WIND Mobile's in Canada), but not AT&T's.

Update: According to Slash Gear, more and more people are starting to find the Google Nexus One in the wild. Fortunately, there is good news here. Slash Gear has heard that the US won't be the only one to get it and the launch date is said to be on- you guessed it - January 5. If you live in Canada, it very well could be headed to WIND Mobile, since they use the same 3G frequencies as T-Mobile USA.

Google Nexus One Packing 1GHz Snapdragon CPU With WiFi Support and FM Transmitter

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Some specs of the Google Nexus One have been confirmed. Since the OS (Android 2.1) has already been leaked people were able to find that the Nexus One does have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz CPU and the Broadcom BCM4329 chipset which has WiFi b/g/n support and an FM transmitter. That's all well and good and if it really launches for $99, it's a bargain.

T-Mobile To Offer the Google Nexus One / HTC Passion Starting On January 5th?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Picture the Google Nexus One with T-Mobile branding and that could be what will be happening in early 2010. According to Reuters (still a rumour), T-Mobile could be offering to sell what we know as the Nexus One as something else. We already know that this handset is the HTC Passion / Dragon from a while ago, but it could be hitting the carrier subsidized as early as January 5th. This handset will also be sold unsubsidized by Google, possibly on the same day, but we'll have to wait for pricing details.

Update: According to Lifehacker, it could be available for $99.99 USD on a 2-year contract after a $100 mail-in rebate. This would likely see competition from the iPhone since it is priced $100 cheaper than the latest model.

Google Nexus One Passes FCC With T-Mobile 3G Bands, Not AT&T's

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Bam! It's been only 4 days and this news is to keep the Google Nexus one streak alive. This time it has been spotted at the FCC with T-Mobile 3G capable bands. This would make perfect sense seeing how Google decided to launch their first Android phone (made by HTC), the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream, on their network as well. The FCC testing has also revealed that it will solely be capable of running on T-Mobile's 3G network. "Sorry AT&T, but that's how the cookie crumbles." Check out the FCC filing here, here, and here.

Engadget Scoops Up Exclusive New Google Nexus One Photos

Labels: , , , , ,

Engadget has just managed to scoop up exclusive photos of the HTC Passion / Dragon / the Google Nexus One handset. Yes, it's running Android 2.1, but their doesn't seem to be much of a difference from Android 2.0.1. This handset here was running on T-Mobile - not AT&T - and was sporting Google Navigation and Google Goggles. The photo above is looking pretty hot, to be honest. In my opinion it looks better than the iPhone, but not by much. Just curious, is that really a trackball down there...?

Two Unofficial Pictures Of the Google Phone In the Wild, We've Seen It Before.

Labels: , , , , ,

Clearly, this is the HTC Passion / BravoDragon we've been seeing a bit about lately. This is the Google Phone. Not exactly as "beautiful" as I thought it would be, but it's bearable. I do think the iPhone looks better to be honest, but it's alright. It's the software that counts. So we know that this handset will be launched exclusively by Google at the start of next year if everything goes according to plan. This is the Google Nexus One folks.

Update: Boy Genius has found the second photo (below) of the Nexus One in the wild. This one doesn't look as "brown" as the first photo, which is good because I was hoping that it would be more silver.

HTC Bravo / Dragon Gets a Facelift, Android Snapdragon On the Way!

Labels: , , , ,

Until it's official I'm saying that this handset has a 3.5-inch or a 3.7-inch OLED multitouch display. There are a couple of reports that state the former, and a couple that state the latter - they can't make up their minds. The HTC Bravo (above) will reportedly be the HTC Dragon / Passion that we've been hearing about. Yes, you'll find a Snapdragon inside of this bad boy, and there'll be a 5MP AF camera that will record 720p video. Everything else is standard: WiFi / Bluetooth support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD card slot, an FM radio, a digital compass, and a 1,400 mAh battery.

This is something to look forward to you Android nerds.

HTC Dragon / Passion / Bravo To Sport 3.5-Inch OLED Multitouch Display, Headed To Verizon In Early 2010

Labels: , , , , ,

According to Digitimes, the HTC Dragon / Passion / Bravo is going to be sporting a 3.5-inch multitouch OLED display and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. This is slightly different from the 3.7-inch reports we just saw in the HTC portfolio leakage and is different from the earlier rumours which stated that this handset would have a 4.3-inch display. I knew it wouldn't have a 4.3-inch display though because the dimensions would be outrageous.

Anyways, this handset has been delayed until early 2010 and will be HTC's first Android 2.0 handset. Engadget is adding in that HTC could turn this into a CDMA handset so it'll be launching on Verizon in early 2010.

Digitimes also went on to mention that HTC will be unveiling a new QWERTY Android handset at MWC 2010 - codenamed HTC Espresso - which is the HTC Hero with a keyboard. It'll likely be the successor to the HTC Hero.

A Bunch of HTC Android Codenames Have Just Been Leaked

Labels: , , , ,

Someone has been clever to look into the HTC Hero's recent Android 2.1 ROM and the OS actually has some hidden meaning to it. If you look deep into the code, it actually has a list of all the upcoming codenames for future Android handsets from HTC themselves. The list is below, and it should be enough for a satisfying 2010 launch for you HTC and Android fans. MWC 2010 looks to be a big event.

“Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire, Supersonic.”

Our First Photo of the HTC Dragon With Sense UI and Android 2.0 Leaked?

Labels: , , , ,

What's this photo above? Well, this could actually be the HTC Dragon / Passion that's headed to Verizon this December. Clearly, it'll have the Sense UI and it could also have Android 2.0 on-board. We're also hearing that it'll pack a 5MP camera with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU.

Verizon Planning To Release 15 Smartphones By Year's End; Storm 2, Omnia II, Curve2, HTC Dragon, Motorola Calgary

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

According to Boy Genius' trusty sources if the Motorola DROID sales go well, Verizon is going to release up to 15 smartphones by the end of the year - even if there are only less than 8 weeks left. We could see: the HTC Dragon / Passion, the Curve2 (Curve 8530), the Motorola Calgary, the Storm 2 and, hopefully, even the Samsung Omnia II by the end of the year. We'll just have to see when it all goes down. I believe Verizon is holding an event on November 5th, so we could hear some more smartphone news then.

HTC's CEO Mentions That They Are Not Releasing An HD2 With Android, Still Brewing Up Something Special

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

HTC's CEO, Peter Chou, has just announced that they will not be making an HTC HD2 with Android on it. We heard about these rumours back in early September, but it looks like those rumours panned out to be false. To me it doesn't really matter if they don't port Android into the HTC HD2 because we already know that HTC is planning something big for their future Android devices. We've repeatedly heard the rumour of the HTC Dragon / Passion that has the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU - if only it looked a little bit nicer though.

HTC Confirms That They're Working On Android 2.0 "Eclair" Handsets -- Probably the HTC Desire and Dragon / Passion

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Like Motorola, HTC looks like they're also working on some Android 2.0 "Eclair" handsets. We don't know what these phones will be, but I'm guessing that this could be the HTC Desire and the HTC Dragon / Passion which are both set for a release on Verizon - if the rumours are true. Colour me excited!

Verizon Also Planning To Launch the HTC Dragon As a Part Of Their "Droid" Line-Up?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Remember the HTC Dragon? Well, it'll supposedly be rocking the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and we're also hearing that this will be another Android handset that Verizon will be launching. Phandroid points out that this will be the third Android handset that Verizon will be launching this holiday season. Right now it's unconfirmed, but I'm definitely hoping that this is true.

It's definitely in good company with the Motorola Droid (Sholes / Tao) and the Droid Eris (HTC Desire).

Unknown Android Handset Spotted in the Wild, Possibly the Snapdragon Packing HTC Dragon

Labels: , , , , , ,

Although it's unclear what this HTC phone is, it could be the HTC Dragon. This would mean that this Android handset will be packed with a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and looks like it could be running Android 2.0. Clearly, there's 3G connectivity, and it also sports 4 touch-sensitive buttons and some kind of circular trackpad button. Tmo Today suggests that the screen could be larger than 3.7-inches, but it's unconfirmed at the time. Could this really be the HTC Dragon because I was hoping for something sexier than this.

HTC Dragon To Run Android and Have 1GHz CPU

Labels: , , , , , ,

According to the latest unconfirmed news - and what could possibly be fake - a new Android handset seems to be in the works by HTC. Dubbed the HTC Dragon, it appears to have a 1GHz CPU. The only other Android handset rumoured to have the Snapdragon 1GHz CPU is the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 and it is at the top of my top 10 phone list. Of course, this handset - if real - will ship with the latest version of Android. Keep in mind that this could be a fake, so just take it with a grain of salt, as usual. This would be pretty awesome though.
