Virgin Mobile Prepping To Launch 4.1-Inch Snapdragon Packing Android Handset

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like Virgin Mobile's latest survey has just hinted that they're going to be launching a new smartphone in the near future. Coming from them, the handset will feature a 4.1-inch touchscreen WVGA display, a 5MP camera, Bluetooth / WiFi support, 3G connectivity, an HDMI output, and a Snapdragon CPU, and Android 2.2. Now, we don't know what smartphone it is right now but it's looking pretty good. I'm going to assume that it'll be an HTC handset though.

Huge Spec Sheet Leak For MWC; Samsung Galaxy S 2 (i9000), HTC Desire HD2, Desire 2, and Wildfire 2

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

PocketNow just got a huge scoop revealing the spec sheets of a few Android powered handsets that will be getting officially unveiled at MWC next week. They include the Samsung Galaxy (i9000) S 2, the HTC Desire HD2, the HTC Desire 2, and the HTC Wildfire 2 which actually leaked earlier this week in an official HTC commercial.

If you want you can just go through the photos and take a look at the spec sheet but I'll give you the gist of it. The Samsung Galaxy (i9000) S 2 will feature a 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED+ display, an 8MP AF camera with an LED flash and 1080p HD video recording, a front-facing 2MP camera, 512MB of RAM, a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU, an Adreno 205 GPU, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, HDMI output, WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth 3.0 support, WiFi hotspot, aGPS, and Android with the Touchwiz UI. These specs might be a bit off because there are a lot of rumours that point to this smartphone packing a Samsung Orion dual-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz.

Next up is the HTC Desire HD2. Apparently, this one will feature a 3.3-inch qHD display (960 x 540 resolution), an 8MP AF camera with an LED flash and 1080p HD video recording, 512MB of RAM, a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU, an Adreno 205 GPU, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI output, WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth 2.1 support, WiFi hotspot, aGPS, and Android with the Sense UI. I think it might be a typo that the Desire HD2 will pack a 3.3-inch display since the current one packs a 4.3-inch one; it should feature the same size display.

Next up is the HTC Desire 2 which we've seen leaked many times before. This will feature a 3.7-inch WVGA Super LCD display, a 5MP AF camera with an LED flash and 720p HD video recording, a front-facing 2MP camera, 512MB of RAM, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, an Adreno 200 GPU, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi b/g / Bluetooth 2.1 support, WiFi hotspot, aGPS, and Android with the Sense UI.

Last, and probably the least out of the bunch, is the HTC Wildfire 2 which will probably be the only one in my price range. This one will feature a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a 5MP AF camera with an LED flash, 384MB of RAM, a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 CPU, an Adreno 200 GPU, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi b/g / Bluetooth 2.1 support, WiFi hotspot, aGPS, and Android with the Sense UI.

What a leak; it's definitely getting me excited for MWC next week!

Bloomberg Says That the BlackBerry Playbook Will Be Running Android Apps

Labels: , , , , , ,

Bloomberg is back at it again and this time they've mentioned that RIM's BlackBerry Playbook will definitely be running Android apps. The firm also mentions that RIM won't be using Dalvik which was rumoured before but running Android apps is definitely a step in the right direction. I wonder how RIM will talk their way into asking Google for access to their Android Market. Will they need to? I'm not really sure but this is great news for folks who are already ready to purchase this tablet.

Bloomberg Says Apple Is Working On a Smaller iPhone With iPhone 4 Components

Labels: , ,

Coming from Bloomberg is word that Apple is actually working on a smaller iPhone that's rumoured to cost $199.99 contract-free. This prototype that they're testing right now is apparently one-third smaller than the iPhone 4 and will use similar components to the iPhone 4 to keep costs down. I'm assuming they're going to be targeting teens for this one because a smaller display than the iPhone 4's will be hard to type on if you have adult hands and fingers. Interesting. Maybe it'll be launched this year.

HTC Thunderbolt Hits the FCC, Or Is It Another 4G Smartphone?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

A 4G smartphone from HTC has just hit the FCC and it could be the Thunderbolt which is destined for Verizon in the US. It's dubbed the PG05100, which was spotted at the WiFi Alliance way back in December of last year. This smartphone packs 700MHz LTE along with CDMA / EVDO connectivity so it could be the Thunderbolt. The thing is that this smartphone has a confidentiality request until March 31st and BGR just heard that this is going to launch in two weeks. Someone has to be wrong but if BGR happens to be right then this smartphone could actually be something that will be teased at MWC. Anyways, check it out at the FCC.

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

The picture above is coming from a Best Buy internal screenshot which AndroidPolice got their hands-on. It says that the HTC Thunderbolt which is headed to Verizon may cost as much as $749.99 contract-free; that's extremely expensive in case you didn't know. Of course, there's no way to confirm this but this could be pointing to more than $199.99 on a 2-year contract - maybe those $249.99 rumours will turn out to be true.

Update: According to BGR, their multiple sources have confirmed that the Thunderbolt will be available starting on February 24th.

Bell Releases the HTC HD7 and Telus Releases the HTC Desire HD

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

The title really says it all. Bell released the HTC HD7 running Windows Phone 7, while Telus released the HTC Desire HD which runs Android 2.2 with the Sense UI. The Desire HD is the better of the two (slightly) because it features a more mature OS, a better camera, and you're able to use it as a WiFi hotspot if you need to. Of course, that makes it $50 more on a 3-year contract ($149.99 vs $99.99). The decision is yours now.
