Next Nintendo Wii To Feature Blu-Ray Drive, Launching in 2010; Netflix Coming To Current Wii

Labels: , , , , ,

Today we've just heard the latest rumour about the upcoming Nintendo Wii 2 / WiiHD. The rumour states that the next-gen Wii will feature a primary Blu-ray drive with, of course, 720p / 1080p output. It's expected to launch worldwide on the exact same day sometime in 2010. Yes, the current Wii is fairly last-gen (graphics-wise), but it's still the leading console of this gen (between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3). If a new Wii comes out next year I'd be surprised because it still seems to be selling pretty hot, even though Nintendo is reporting a slight decline in sales.

Oh yeah, we're also hearing that Netflix support will be coming to the original Nintendo Wii.

Samsung Unveils Coloured E-Paper Display, Clearly a Prototype

Labels: , , ,

Samsung has just revealed their latest e-paper prototype and as you can [somewhat] see in the picture: it's coloured. This coloured e-paper prototype was on display and, clearly, you weren't allowed to touch it. This prototype features: a 10-inch display, a measly 10:1 contrast ratio, and just 7% of the NTSC color gamut. Of course, Samsung is looking to improve on this technology. Samsung has mentioned that they're looking to push out this new display in the second half of 2010 if all goes well.

HTC Droid Eris (HTC Desire) Also Packs WiFi and a 5MP AF Camera

Labels: , , , , , ,

We already know that the HTC Droid Eris (Desire) will have an underwhelming 528MHz CPU and the old-school Android OS 1.5, and now we know that this handset will also have WiFi and a 5MP AF camera with no flash. It's decent but, I mean, Android OS 1.5? We've already seen how good Android 2.0 is, so we're just going to have to wait for some custom Android 2.0 ROMs.

HTC's CEO Mentions That They Are Not Releasing An HD2 With Android, Still Brewing Up Something Special

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

HTC's CEO, Peter Chou, has just announced that they will not be making an HTC HD2 with Android on it. We heard about these rumours back in early September, but it looks like those rumours panned out to be false. To me it doesn't really matter if they don't port Android into the HTC HD2 because we already know that HTC is planning something big for their future Android devices. We've repeatedly heard the rumour of the HTC Dragon / Passion that has the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU - if only it looked a little bit nicer though.

LG's 5.9mm LED-Backlit LCD HDTV On Video, Headed To Japan

Labels: , , ,

What you see above is a short video on LG's 5.9mm thin LED-backlit LCD HDTV. Even though it's extremely thin (not the thinnest out there though) the displays spans 47-inches. This is headed to Japan, but they haven't mentioned if it will launch anywhere else.

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like the LG GW620 (Eve) now has its own website here. We already know this is set to launch on Rogers next Tuesday, November 3rd. We already know all about this device, but I feel like going through the specs again. So, the LG GW620 will be available with: a 3-inch HVGA touchscreen display, a 5MP AF camera with an LED flash, 2GB / 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, dual-band UMTS / quad-band GSM connectivity, and Android OS 1.5. LG has put their traditional S-Class UI over Android and they added in a new SNS Manager which will be similar to MOTOBLUR since it has social integration.

Apple Patent Signals Wireless Earphones That Have Mp3 Player Built Right In

Labels: , , ,

What you see above is a photo of Apple's latest patent for wireless headphones that integrate the media player straight into the headphone itself. Like the picture above also depicts it could also have a tiny display so that you can see what you're playing if you take it out of your ear. "Apple suggests it could use USB to offload content directly to a computer or else use the headset's wireless, which could involve Bluetooth, RF or even infrared to sync content wirelessly." This does seem like a fairly neat idea, but it does have its flaws. Make sure it doesn't fall out of your ear...

Samsung's 7-Inch AMOLED Display Going Into Production In Q1 2010, Getting Used In Netbooks, Tablet, E-Book Readers

Labels: , , , , , , ,

We saw the 7-inch Samsung AMOLED netbook prototype yesterday and now we have a little bit more news. Along with the news we heard yesterday, which was a 7-inch AMOLED display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, we're also hearing that this netbook's display will have 16.7 million colours and just about 100% NTSC color space coverage.

Samsung plans on mass producing this 7-inch display in Q1 2010 and it'll be used mainly in netbooks, e-books, and likely tablets / large MIDs. You can watch the short video below if you'd like.

PSP-4000 Rumours Heat Up Again Due To PSP Go's Slow Sales

Labels: , , ,

With the announcement of the Nintendo DSi LL / XL this morning, the PSP-4000 rumours have started up yet again. This is likely because the PSP Go sales have been pretty underwhelming so far - similar to the PS3 at launch - because of its high price tag. PSP-4000 will bring back the UMD, but I doubt it'll sprout another thumb stick.

Labels: , , , , ,

Remember that Kohjinsha dual-screen netbook prototype? Well, a 2 minute video has just been found online of this baby in action. Unfortunately, it looks like this netbook is rocking an AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 1.6GHz CPU, up to 4GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, and Windows 7 - let's hope that gets updated before it gets launched. Anyways, take a look at the video above - I think it looks pretty awesome!

Dual 4.2-Inch Display-Packing Nintendo DSi LL Launching in Japan On November 28th, Launching as the DSi XL In North America and Europe In Q1 2010

Labels: , , , ,

Nintendo has just confirmed that they will be launching a larger DSi. Set for a launch later this year, the DSi LL will be hitting Japan in under a month - November 28th to be exact. Nintendo will be launching the same gaming handset in Europe in Q1 2010, but as the Nintendo DSi XL. The DSi LL / DSi XL will feature dual 4.2-inch displays and the same ports from the original DSi. The trade-off for the dual-screen is that it will weigh 100 grams more than the original DSi (now 314 grams) and the measurements are 161 x 91.4 x 21.2 mm. The battery will supposedly last 4 to 5 hours on maximum brightness or 13 to 17 hours when you dim the screen a bit.

Anyways, in Japan we're hearing that it'll be available for ¥20,000 ($220 USD). Yes, this handheld's launch date in North America hasn't been mentioned yet. Nintendo will be launching it in three colours: Wine Red (above), Dark Brown (below), and Natural White (self-explanatory).

Update: It will also be headed to North America as the Nintendo DSi XL, according to Kotaku. It'll be available in early (Q1) 2010.

Labels: , , ,

Although ASRock has already released their Ion 330 nettop in the US, it looks like they've just announced the Ion 330HT, Ion 330Pro, and Ion 330HT-BD. The name clearly mentions that all three models will be packed with Nvidia's Ion graphics and we'll also see Intel's Atom Dual-Core 330 1.6GHz CPU, 7.1 channel audio, up to 4GB of RAM, and gigabit Ethernet / HDMI / VGA / eSATA / six USB 2.0 ports inside of this sucker. Clearly, the 330HT-BD will have a built-in Blu-ray drive, just in case you wanted to know. The price and release date hasn't been mentioned yet, but it shouldn't be too far away.

HTC Hero Getting Android 2.0 OS "Eclair" In the [Near] Future -- Bringing Sense With It

Labels: , , , ,

According to what we've been hearing lately the recently announced Android 2.0 "Eclair" OS will be headed to the HTC Hero. Right now it's unclear whether Android 2.0 will be coming to other Android handsets and we also don't know if HTC will skin Android 2.0 with their Sense UI. Either way it seems to be confirmed, now we'll just have to wait for it.

Update: According to GSM Arena and Boy Genius, HTC will be porting their Sense UI over to Android 2.0 to make it all nice-looking and stuff like that.
