Apple Refreshing MacBook Pro Line-Up Tomorrow? Core i5 / i7 Models Included

Labels: , , , , ,

Well, this is short notice. Apparently, Apple could be looking to refresh their MacBook Pro line-up sometime tomorrow. Over the weekend we did see a GeekBench of a Core i7-equipped MacBook Pro so the refresh shouldn't be that far off. And yes, there should be Core i5 models as well, the Core i7 will, of course, be for the high-end models.

Rumoured Picture of the [Slightly Taller] iPhone 4G Casing In the Wild

Labels: , ,

Apparently what you see above and on the right is the casing for the iPhone 4G. As a comparison, the iPhone 3GS case is on the left. As you can see the supposed iPhone 4G casing is slightly taller than its predecessor and part of the surface is reflective. It's supposedly just 1/4 of an inch taller, so it's not a huge difference. We don't know why the next iPhone is taller, but let's hope that they increase the resolution of the smartphone. Apparently the iPhone's proximity sensor could be spotted in a different place in the next iPhone which isn't a big deal.

Dopod (Chinese Carrier) Roadmap Leaks Out; HTC Huashan (Possibly Supersonic), Dragon, and More!!

Labels: , ,

It looks like Dopod, a Chinese carrier, is planning to launch a couple of handsets in the near future, thanks to their latest leak. The HTC Huashan leads the way with a 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen display that was supposed to be running Android. HTC could have flipped the switch here since they'll likely be changing the OS so that it runs Windows Mobile. This means that it very well could be the HTC Supersonic with WinMo 7 on-board. The HTC Dragon will be an Android phone that will hit China-only and it features a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display. The A6388 is another handset, pictured below, that features a 3.4-inch toucshcreen display. It bears a striking resemblance to the Nexus One. The Tianshan is a handset rocking a 3.2-inch QVGA display and the Songshan is sporting a 2.8-inch QVGA display with a QWERTY keyboard. That is all.

Labels: , , , ,

Still interested in the Nook e-book reader from Barnes & Noble? Well the good news is that you'll be available to get them online and in "the majority of stores" in the middle of this week - Feb. I suggest you scoop one up as soon as possible though because they could sell out fast again. Get one for yourself on Valentine's day, why not? I'll keep you posted, so don't worry.

HTC Legend Gets Caught In a Photo In the Wild

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like the HTC Incredible isn't the only phone that has been spotted in the wild over these past couple of days. What you see above prancing around is the HTC Legend which is set to take over the HTC Hero. It's clearly rocking the new optical mouse / trackpad so there's no signs of a trackball here. The chin is still present which is a let down. We don't have any details on this handset, but it's clearly rocking the Sense UI over top of some Android version. The aluminum finish is looking pretty nice though.

Gigabyte M1405 Notebook Spotted At the Taipei Game Show

Labels: , ,

A new notebook by Gigabyte has just been spotted in the wild at the Taipei Game Show. It's the Gigabyte M1405 and it features a 14-inch display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD / Nvidia GeForce GT220 graphics, an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU, up to 4GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, a built-in DVD drive, a 6-cell battery, and a large attachment at the back with a 3-cell battery inside of it. We don't know when this notebook will launch but it should be pretty soon.

Samsung Showing Off Phone With 3.3-Inch Super AMOLED Display At MWC

Labels: , , ,

Remember that AMOLED display we talked about last week? Y'know, the one that Samsung's working on? Okay, well, apparently we'll be seeing this display at MWC this weekend and it'll be on a new phone by Samsung. They're dubbing this the "Super AMOLED" display since it's got an embedded touchscreen panel and it features a 480 x 800 resolution. This panel will reportedly measure 3.3-inches, will be 5x clearer, and will have 20% better visibility under direct sunlight which is great news. We'll see what happens at MWC this weekend - maybe the phone itself will be running Bada.

Inbrics Showing Off M1 MID AT MWC This Weekend!

Labels: , , , , ,

MWC is set to kick off in less than a week and Inbrics has just mentioned that we'll be seeing their slick M1 MID at the event. This Android-based MID features a 3.7-inch AMOLED toucshcreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, WiFi / GPS / Bluetooth support, 3G / WiMAX connectivity, a 3MP camera, a front-facing camera, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD card slot. It's got an impressive spec sheet, so let's hope that they can get this out to a few customers. They mentioned that they're looking to launch this device later this year or even in 2011 where it'll just fade out of everyone's memory.

Vodafone Set To Launch Qisda QCM-330 Handset With 4-Inch Display, LG GD880, and More!!

Labels: , , , , ,

Vodafone looks like they're ready to launch a couple of new handsets for the new year. The most exciting handsets on this list is what you see above, the Qisda QCM-330 and what you see below the LG GD880. The Qisda handset is somehow sporting an unmatched 4-inch touchscreen display with a 1,280 x 1,024 resolution, but the OS is unknown at this moment. The "Home" button does signal that it could be running Android so that could be a great thing if it's running version 2.0 at least. Other specs for this handset include HSPA connectivity, WiFi, and only a 3MP camera. Vodafone also plans to launch the LG GD880 Mini which we know a bit about at this point. It'll feature a touchscreen display with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 854 resolution, a 5MP camera, HSDPA / 3G connectivity, an FM radio, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth / WiFi / GPS support, and the S-Class UI. The other phones are below the picture so don't miss out!

Vodafone isn't done there, they plan to launch the Vodafone 2010 Compass which bears a similarity to the Nokia Twist that's on Verizon right now.

The Vodafone 360 Krystal looks like another interesting handset since it supposedly features displays on both sides of the handset. "Apparently, if you place the phone on a foreign newspaper, one display can scan the newspaper's text, while the other one will show the text translated in your language." It's not confirmed if this is just a concept, but it sure seems like it won't get released. We'll have to wait and see because this technology seems like it's here too early.

The Vodafone 737 Quincy is below and it's sporting a touchscreen display and a 3MP camera. Unfortunately, we don't know what OS will be running on here.

The Vodafone 545 Larry (FCC here) sports a 1.3MP camera and a numeric keypad. That's all we know about it right now.

The Vodafone 137 Sting will be a phone made of aluminum and silicone so it's somewhat resistant - the specs are unknown.

The Vodafone 534 Shilpa is a slider handset that should have entry-level specs so don't expect much here.

Last, but not least, is the Mio Valinor above. This one isn't a phone, but it's a 7-inch car navigator with a touchscreen display, HD video support, and WiFi / 3G support.

The prices and release dates for all of these phones are unknown at the time.

Asus Eee Top ET1610PT All-In-One PC On the Way Soon With Intel Atom D410 CPU

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like a new all-in-one PC from Asus could be on the way soon. It's been spotted before the Atom D410 has even been released, even though that's what's supposed to be fueling it. The ET1610PT also features a 15.6-inch display, WiFi b/g/n support, six USB 2.0 ports, a 5-in-1 card reader, an integrated webcam, and Windows XP. The launch should be in a couple of months.

BenQ Reveals Four New Monitors, Two Gain World's Slimmest Titles

Labels: , ,

A couple of world's slimmest title for the BenQ camp. Their V2220 monitor (21.5-inch) and V920 (18.5-inch) monitors both gain titles for the world's slimmest in their respectful sizes. They've also unveiled two larger models, the V2320 (23-inch) and V2420 (24-inch), but they're slightly larger so they don't get the same titles. All of these monitors have a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution - except for the 1,366 x 768 resolution on the V920 - 250 nits of brightness, a 5ms response time, and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. These monitors should be available in Taiwan over the next couple of months and the rest of the world will have to wait until June.

T-Mobile's Future Handset Launches Leak Out? HTC HD2, Nokia Nuron (5230), and Motorola CLIQ XT (Zeppelin)

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Could this be for real? Has T-Mobile USA's upcoming handset line-up just leaked out? They clearly don't know how to spell Sony Ericsson and they refer to Motorola as Mot, so those could signal that this is a fake. But anyways, let's move away from the negative.

The HTC HD2, Motorola CLIQ XT, and Nokia Nuron are the highlights on here. The HD2 will supposedly be released on March 24th, similar to what we heard before. The Motorola CLIQ XT will supposedly launch on March 10th and it's looking like the Zeppelin to us. The Nokia Nuron will supposedly launch on March 17th and this one's looking like the Nokia 5230 that should've been released last year.

Other launches include the blue Samsung Gravity 2 on February 24th.

Motorola MOTOSPLIT Will Have Magical Dynamic Keys But Slow CPU

Labels: , , ,

Remember the Motorola MOTOSPLIT? We already know that this handset will have it's QWERTY keyboard split on both sides of the handset, but interestingly enough it could actually be close to the Samsung Alias 2 in this way. Apparently you'll actually be able to use a numeric keypad when you slide out just one side of the handset. This is pretty cool and we'll just have to see how this works out in the future - hopefully on a video. Let's hope the keys are also easy to press. We don't know what technology the MOTOSPLIT will use but the Alias 2 used an e-ink display for the "magical" keys.

Unfortunately, we're hearing that the CPU inside of this handset will be the same as the Motorola Backflip which means that it'll be a slow Qualcomm MSM7201A CPU clocked at 528MHz.

The keyboard keys are inset and probably have no tactile feedback, however, they should be quite easy to use. It looks like the cutouts are pretty finger-friendly, as they contour to the shape of a standard finger. Under those cutouts is a low-resolution monochrome touch screen, one for each side of the keyboard. This is where the finger presses. The contact area is small, but the plastic grid that surrounds it contours to the fingers. The label and function of each key can be changed to suit certain layouts and applications.
The keyboard has multiple orientations. The keyboard can be pulled from side to side for typing on a surface. A small kickstand angles the phone when typing in this manner. The keyboard can also be pulled to the left for a standard landscape layout. There is also a dial-pad layout.
The specifications are slightly different than previously posted. The MOTOSPLIT uses the same processor as the BACKFLIP. Every other spec is almost the same as the BACKFLIP.

MacBook Pro With Core i7-620M CPU Being Geekbenched

Labels: , ,

We already know that Apple is eventually going to refresh their MacBook Pro line-up, the real question is when. On February 4th (just four days ago) someone was Geekbenching (photo below) a MacBook Pro packed with an Intel Core i7-620M 2.66GHz CPU and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. It received a score of 5260 which is about a third higher than the current Core 2 Duo models. Of course, if Apple does refresh their MacBook Pro line-up there'll likely be some slower (and more affordable) Core i5 models. We'll just have to wait and see, hopefully we'll see something about this MacBook Pro 6,1 in the near future.

Orange UK Launching the HTC HD2?

Labels: , , ,

Could Orange UK be planning to launch the HTC HD2 in the near future? This handset is already available on a couple of different carriers, but it would be great if Orange got it as well. This is signaled by a help page that was just spotted on Orange UK's own website. The only thing we can do right now is wait and see. Anyways, the help page is here.

Canada's Koodo Mobile Could Be "Ready For Some HSPAectomy" In April / May

Labels: , ,

HSPA is a big thing in Canada and that's a great thing because faster is better. The next carrier set to launch their HSPA network could be Koodo Mobile. Their new network looks like it'll kick off in April or May of this year and they'll bring on new smartphones, likely including the iPhone - of course. With this network and better selection of phones comes higher monthly fees on their "Tab" data packages, so look out!

First HTC Incredible Photos Leak Out, Not-So-Incredible Back Cover

Labels: , , , ,

If this picture is to be believed then this is the HTC Incredible. It looks slightly different from the Bravo so they're definitely not the same handset. The look may be a bit different, but the rumoured specs seem to be on par with the Bravo. They could be a variant of each other. It [supposedly] features a 3.5 to 3.7-inch touchscreen (possibly AMOLED and WVGA) display, 256MB of RAM, a dual-LED flash on the camera (probably 5MP), a Snapdragon CPU, and HTC Sense over top of Android 2.1. What's up with the back cover though... let's hope they changed that when they release it.

Update: Check out Engadget for a video. They've also mentioned that this handset will likely be headed to Verizon with an optical mouse - similar to the Bravo.

Windows Phone 7 Rumours Start Up; No Multitasking and No Flash Support...

Labels: , , , ,

New rumours transpired this weekend over Windows Mobile Phone 7. Apparently, Microsoft is trying to be more iPhone-like with this new version by ripping out multitasking which would be a terrible move on their part to be honest. They need a one-up on the iPhone as much as possible. Flash support looks like it'll be absent in WinPho 7, but there will be Silverlight 3.0 support. The UI is said to be "Zune HD inspired" and there'll be no Sense / TouchFLO customization allowed. Apparently the browser is faster / better than the iPhone's. There'll reportedly be Zune / Xbox 360 integration and September 2010 is the release date. The full list is below.

We'll just have to wait until MWC 2010 so that Microsoft can confirm / unconfirm all of this good / bad news.

  • WM7 will have a user interface derived from codename “METRO” and will be similar to the Zune HD
  • The traditional Home Screen will get a whole new look and will not support custom interfaces like Sense and TouchFLO
  • No Flash support as time constraints prevented its inclusion
  • Will include Silverlight 3.0 with some aspects of SL 4.0 and mobile-specific features
  • Applications will be installed through the Windows Mobile Marketplace only, manual installation from a storage card will not be allowed
  • Say no to multitasking and yes to push notifications which may be provided by a Microsoft hosted push notifications environment
  • Windows Mobile Marketplace will include a “Try before you Buy” feature and offer API support
  • No .NET Compact Framework backwards compatibility so all those old apps will not work, but a portion of the data and business logic .NET CF may be ported at some point
  • Browser is based upon desktop IE7 codebase, but with some IE8 functionality and is currently faster / better than the iPhone 3G
  • MS is actually ahead of schedule which will surprise the analysts / journalists (seriously?)
  • Full Zune and Xbox 360 Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
  • No more active sync or Windows Mobile Device center. Zune software will handle all syncing
  • Full support for social networking
  • Devices are expected to ship by September 2010
