Barnes & Noble Announce the 7-Inch $249 Nook Tablet

Labels: , , , ,

Barnes & Noble's CEO, William Lynch, was the first one on stage at today's event and he bragged about how fast their company grew in the digital content space. have just introduced the Nook Tablet which will be battling Amazon's Kindle Fire. The tablet will be available on November 16 for $249 but they believe that they can compete with the Fire. The Nook Tablet packs a 7-inch VividView IPS display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, a dual-core TI OMAP4 1GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi b/g/n support, Netflix / Hulu Plusintegration, cloud storage, and an amazing battery that'll reportedly last 9 hours playing video.

Why will you want to spend the extra $50 on this tablet over the Kindle Fire? Barnes & Noble mentioned a bunch of different points: a better display with better viewing angles, 16GB which is more than the 6GB that the Fire has, more RAM (1GB vs 512MB), a lighter design, and better content rendering. For help on the Nook Tablet you can also go to one of their various (over 700) stores whereas Amazon doesn't have that kind of support. Yeah, they definitely took a swing at Amazon here.

If you're not willing to spend the money then the company has decided to reduce the price of their Nook Color and the touch-enabled Nook which will be referred to as the Nook Simple Touch. They'll be available on the 16th as well for $199 and $99, respectively. They've been working on the Nook Color's software and they're going to be pushing out the biggest update for it in the near future.

Barnes & Noble Delaying In-Store Availability and Shipments of Their Nook E-Book Reader -- Wait Gets Even Longer...

Labels: , , , ,

Barnes & Noble is having a bit of a hard time bringing the Nook e-book reader to the market, but that's only because there is lots of demand for it - according to them. It was scheduled to be available in stores today, but they've pushed the in-store date until next week, December 7th. If you haven't ordered your Nook yet, then you'll be receiving yours on January 4th if the shipping goes as planned. A slight delay, but you can wait, right?

Update on December 1st: According to Engadget, Barnes & Noble are also facing shipping delays as well. If you pre-ordered your Nook e-book reader shortly after it was announced then you may not get it before Christmas, but we're hoping you will. If you ordered it after the first batch ran out then you're looking at a January 11th ship date right now. Sad, sad day for those owners right now.\

Update on December 4th: At this point we'll be lucky if the Nook e-book reader ever gets shipped. Engadget has just found out that the shipping date has been delayed four more days from January 11th to January 15th! Damn. Be patient, young grasshopper.

Barnes & Noble Make Their Dual-Display Nook E-Book Reader Official, Pre-Orders Starting At $259 Right Now

Labels: , , , ,

Barnes & Noble has just made their Nook e-book reader official. Interestingly enough, it's the exact same e-book reader that we saw last week. The Nook has: a 6-inch e-ink display, a smaller 3.5-inch coloured touchscreen display, the Android OS, WiFi, 3G connectivity, a battery that should last around 10 days with the wireless turned off, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2GB of internal storage, and an SD card slot. Unfortunately, the WiFi will only work in their stores at launch. It looks like the Kindle has some competition. Anyways, it's now available to pre-order for $259 USD right here.
