Vodafone Delays Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Until January; It's a Sad Day.

Labels: , , , , ,

It was supposed to be available in early November but a couple of people have been waiting and waiting for this Windows Mobile powered device to be released by Vodafone. Unfortunately, Vodafone has pushed the release of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 until January 2010. This is definitely sad news because it would've made a good Christmas present for some people. Check it out on Vodafone's site if you don't believe me.

This news really sucks and I hope the XPERIA X10 doesn't get delayed as well... but you never know.

A Bunch of HTC Android Codenames Have Just Been Leaked

Labels: , , , ,

Someone has been clever to look into the HTC Hero's recent Android 2.1 ROM and the OS actually has some hidden meaning to it. If you look deep into the code, it actually has a list of all the upcoming codenames for future Android handsets from HTC themselves. The list is below, and it should be enough for a satisfying 2010 launch for you HTC and Android fans. MWC 2010 looks to be a big event.

“Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire, Supersonic.”

LG LX610 aka Lotus 2 Pictured In the Wild.

Labels: , , ,

The LG LX610 aka the Lotus 2 seems to have just been pictured. It looks quite odd to be honest, but it looks like that external display is definitely big enough to be touchscreen-capable - as rumoured. It clearly sports the same styling as the last-gen so it'll have a QWERTY keyboard and an internal display. This handset is expected to launch in January 2010 on Sprint.

We heard about the Acer Aspire 8935 (above) way back in April and Acer is already looking to replace that model. That's where the Aspire 8942 will step in with its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics and Core i7 CPU options. This 18.4-inch notebook (with a 1080p resolution of course) will also include DirectX support, up to 8GB of RAM, dual 640GB HDDs, a Blu-ray drive, HDMI out, and a 5.1-channel audio system. Fake Motorola Sholes Tablet Pictured In the Wild Again; Actually Just a Photoshopped Omnia II

Labels: , , , ,

Okay, this is a much better picture. Gone is the blue backing and this is a much clearer picture than I would've expected. This is supposedly a picture of the Motorola Sholes Tablet. The handset is expected to have: a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, an 8MP AF camera with a dual-LED flash, and an 800MHz CPU. The HDMI port was seen a couple of days ago, and let's hope that becomes a reality.

Update on December 4th: According to Slash Gear, it's a fake. This has been confirmed to be a photoshopped Samsung Omnia II. As you can see in the picture below, it resembles the Omnia II's camera. I've added a picture of the Omnia II's back as a comparison.

Labels: , , , , ,

Well, the M510 is headed to SK Telecom this month and it has just passed the FCC to confirm that. As of right now, we do know that the M510 comes packed with: a 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, a 5MP AF camera, WiFi / Bluetooth support, and a microSD card slot.

LG Now Mass-Producing Their 3D HD LCD Monitors!

Labels: , , , ,

So, LG's 3D and HD-capable LCD monitors are going to be available pretty soon. This new display sports very little bezel and it's based on shutter glasses technology. The full specs haven't been revealed, but we should know them fairly soon since LG has just set up the factory to mass-produce these. I'm excited until CES 2010, where LG will definitely show this off.

World's Smallest Multitouch Capable PC Coming In Early 2010, It's the 5.6-Inch Fujitsu LifeBook UH900

Labels: , , , ,

Fujitsu is claiming that this right here is the world's smallest multitouch capable PC. It's the LifeBook UH900 and it's a UMPC that's surprisingly running Windows 7. It features: a 5.6-inch multitouch display with a WXGA resolution, an Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz CPU (same as Nokia's Booklet 3G), a 62GB SSD, 3.5G connectivity, and a battery that'll only last around 3-hours even in eco-mode. The battery life is poor, but the specs don't upset many.

We don't have a firm release date, but it should be coming sometime in early 2010 - most likely January. We don't have a price on this device yet.

Nokia Throws Out Sneak Peek About What Symbian Could Look Like In 2010

Labels: , , , ,

At this point we know that Nokia is looking to update Symbian and Maemo next year. Well, a sneak peak of what Symbian will turn into is above (and on Engadget's site). Engadget points out that Nokia will be moving into the multitouch capacitive business with their new mobile OS, so that's definitely a good thing - and it took them long enough.

Nokia is not looking to change the OS per say, but they are definitely cooking up ways to fix the UI. They're going to improve the browser, bump up the scrolling to 60fps (only 15fps currently), and they're going to try to make the UI 3 times faster. It'll be simpler and faster to get to more important things that you'll need (for example: less touching for your fingers to get to your favourite song).

Check out the Engadget link below for a video on this "magical" UI. Of course, it's a work in progress.

Apple Tablet To Launch With a "Shockingly Inexpensive" Price Tag?

Labels: , , ,

There's a new rumour going around about the infamous Apple tablet. After hearing that it could launch with an OLED display for around $2,000 a couple of weeks ago, this new rumour could shock a few. Well, the Apple tablet is rumoured to be "shockingly inexpensive." Yes, that doesn't give us a price point, but it'll be shocking to me if it's under $800 to be honest. We'll just have to see how Apple plays this out.

HTC Touch.B Running Qualcomm's Brew Mobile OS, Not Android. Caught On Video

Labels: , , ,

Just two days ago we heard a rumour that a variant of the HTC Touch2 would launch with Android and that would be the HTC Touch.B (HTC Rome). Well, a new rumour states that the Touch.B actually won't be fueled by Android. It'll actually be running Qualcomm's Brew mobile OS, which I know absolutely nothing about. We'll just to wait around for more information about this handset.

Update: At this point, the UI is pretty simple with a bit of HTC's own TouchFLO. It'll reportedly have a 2MP camera (with no video recording capabilities) and 3G / Bluetooth support. No WiFi on this sucker though. This handset is expected to launch in early 2010 and will be an entry-level device. However, there is Adobe Flash support, which makes things interesting. Check out the video below for a short teaser on the simple UI.

Amazon and Dell USA Now Selling the Nokia N97 Mini For $480

Labels: , , ,

It looks like Amazon now has the Nokia N97 Mini available for $480 USD. This handset has: a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, quad-band GSM/EDGE / WCDMA connectivity, an ARM 434MHz CPU, GPS / WiFi support, a 5MP camera, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, Facebook integration, an FM radio with RDS support, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and S60 5th Edition. If you're interested in it, go and check it out on Amazon's site here.

Update: According to GSM Arena, Dell is selling it for $580 USD. But, you'll still be able to get it for $480 if you have a coupon.

At Dell you can get it for the same price with a coupon - the first one we stumbled upon in Google is WQDQBPXNHCZFVG (expires December 10th 2009). This gives you 100 dollars off the list price arriving at pretty much the same price as at Amazon.

ZTE Vodafone 545 Handset Passes the FCC, Has No MTV Branding.

Labels: , , , ,

What you see above has just been approved by the FCC (filing here). This handset is made by ZTE (the same company that spawned the MTV handset from last week) and it's going to be called the Vodafone 545. This fat handset awkwardly sports a numeric keypad instead of a QWERTY one. It's a pretty low-end handset with GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, an FM radio, a 1.3MP camera, and a microSD card. We don't know know how much or when Vodafone will launch this sucker.

Verizon Offering Buy One Get One Free Weekend; Get a DROID / Droid Eris, Get a Free Droid Eris

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Phandroid is hearing rumours of a pretty sweet deal this weekend for you Verizon customers - or even new ones. This weekend (Friday to Monday) Verizon will be offering a buy one get one free deal for the Motorola DROID and the Droid Eris. The good news is that you'll be able to get another DROID / Droid Eris even if you got it on the first day (November 6th) since it's only been 30 days (you'll only be able to get one on Friday though). It may sound confusing, but it's really not.

Unfortunately, you will have to open a new line, but if that's not a concern then you should definitely get another one.

Update: According to Phandroid, this is now official. Everything you read above is correct. However, if you get a DROID or a Droid Eris you will receive a free Droid Eris - so that means no free Motorola DROIDs for anyone anytime soon.

Intel's Pine Trail Atoms To Consume 20% Less Energy Than Current Atoms

Labels: , , ,

We already know that Intel's next-gen Atoms will be slightly faster than the current models and we also know that they'll consume less energy than the current ones. How much you ask? Well, according to a couple of tests, the Pine Trail Atoms save about 20% more energy. We don't know how much more battery you'll get out of them, but it'll be up to 20% - my guess is around 10 to 15%.
