Acer Showing Off Chrome OS Devices In Under Two Weeks Time -- Maybe Not

Labels: , , , , , ,

Apparently, Acer is set to showcase their Chrome OS devices in the near future. This is going to happen within the next one to two weeks so we could either see it at Google I/O in a couple of days or we could see it at Computex which takes place in the first week of June. We don't know what these devices will be but they'll likely be netbooks / smartbooks. These devices are scheduled to hit the market in the second half of this year, so we'll still have to wait a while until we see how well Google can integrate the cloud into this OS.

Update: Apparently, Acer is holding a global event at the end of this month and, unfortunately, Engadget has mentioned that no Chrome OS devices are going to be shown off. However, they do mention that we could still see those Chrome OS devices by the end of devices but they might not show up at Google I/O, this Acer event, and Computex in early June. Anything can happen though, so hope for the best.

Vietnamese Site Gets a Next-Generation iPhone Running OS 4 -- Sadly Photoshopped

Labels: , , , ,

Apparently, a Vietnamese website has managed to get their hands on the next-generation iPhone. It appears to be running iPhone OS 4, but there aren't much details on this device since there's only a picture and no video. Their website also appears to be down at the time of writing so we can't really dig for more information. This iPhone is apparently the "N90 PRO2" which means that it's another prototype of Apple's. Steve Jobs must be pissed.

Update: According to Slash Gear, this picture may actually be photoshopped. What you see below is a direct quote from Slash Gear.

For example, on the left-side of the device, it seems that the space between screen and bezel is far too thin, and therefore leads most to believe that it was a bad judgment call from the person who sent it through Photoshop. And then there’s supposed to be a grey strip that extends the length of the screen, but that does not. So, if these are to be believed, then it looks like the iPhone HD prototype over the seas, which might’ve been running iPhone OS 4 at some point in time, is not actually running anything at all. A real shame, if you ask us.

There's not much to tell you here that you shouldn't already know about the phone, it's everywhere now. This handset was delayed a bit because of the training that the Desire initially failed. Don't forget that O2 has also released the HTC Smart, so maybe you'll want to opt for that instead of the Desire.

RIM's 8.9-Inch BlackBerry Tablet Hitting the Market This Year, Focusing On Multimedia

Labels: , ,

Up to this point we've heard rumours that RIM is working on some sort of BlackBerry tablet and more information seems to have trickled out today. Boy Genius has apparently "confirmed" that this tablet of theirs will sport an 8.9-inch display along with Bluetooth / WiFi support. It's said to be a companion device with your regular BlackBerry but I don't see how this will work out for RIM. They're looking to launch this tablet late this year and it'll focus on multimedia - things like e-books, e-mailing, web browsing, and photo viewing. I don't know what RIM is thinking right now because I don't think this will work out so well for them - even with their new OS 6.0 coming out.

This is coming from Digitimes, just in case you're wondering. The launch is apparently set for August / September of this year but nothing is for sure with Apple.
