Over the past couple of months we've been hearing that Canada would be getting the HTC Desire as the Triumph - thanks to Telus. According to the latest leak, they may just be launching it as the plain old Desire - because, really, what's the point of the name change? Nothing's confirmed right now, so we'll really just have to wait. This handset will come with Android 2.1 pre-loaded, with a likely upgrade to 2.2 "Froyo" in a couple of weeks / months.

Canada's Telus is going to be unveiling something on June 8th and everyone's hoping that it's the HTC Triumph because what else could it really be? When was the last time HTC used a countdown to unveil something? This definitely has to big something big, right? Thankfully, it's just under 2 weeks away and they'll answer all of the questions - except for the rhetorical one.

It looks like Telus' HTC Triumph will really be the HTC Desire. This is extremely great news seeing how this will be their best phone when they release it in July / August. This phone packs 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, a 5MP AF camera with a flash, WiFi support, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, and Android 2.1 with the Sense UI.

Apparently, T-Mobile is working on some secret project, dubbed Project Emerald. This is a plan to bring the HTC Desire to the USA, which is sounding like great news - even though they do already have the Nexus One. If this is true then it could be hitting Canada as well, seeing how their carrier, Telus, will be getting the HTC Triumph which is said to be a variant of the Desire.

Okay, so we heard that Telus would be getting the HTC Triumph in the future, but we never knew what it was. According to a thread on Howard Forums the handset will actually be a variant of the HTC Desire! A person named thebluetoothkid mentioned that he got to play with the handset for a couple of minutes and ended up saying that the handset itself has a large touchscreen display, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 512MB of ROM / RAM, WiFi b/g, 3G+ / HSPA connectivity, an 8GB / 16GB SD card slot in the box, along Android 2.1.

It seemed like that was all. And then, a user named HC - NO "i" comes out of nowhere and mentions that it's the HTC PB99220 (spotted at the Industry Canada Certification and Engineering Bureau REL) which is very similar to the HTC Desire (which is the PB9200). This is definitely exciting stuff, so look out for this phone. It's said to be a Telus exclusive!

Update: Apparently, the handset could actually look like the HTC DROID Incredible, but it'll be slightly thinner.

Telus is coming up big on these inventory leaks lately so it's good news to us that they haven't stopped yet. It looks like Canada will be getting access to the HTC Triumph (never heard of before) and the white HTC Touch Pro 2 (never seen before). We know nothing about the Triumph and Touch Pro 2 should be the same as the original except for the new colour.
