HTC Scorpion / Olympian To Rock ARM 1.5GHz CPU, WiMAX, and Android 2.2?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Every other Android device you've heard up to this point is garbage if this handset exists - actually basically every single handset. The HTC Scorpion / Olympian looks like it may have just been leaked out thanks to a recently spotted build file. AndroidSpin has done the dirty work and they've come up with a couple of interesting points about this HTC Scorpion / Olympian handset. It'll reportedly feature an ARM Cortex clocked at 1.5GHz, WiMAX, and Android 2.2 (could be Froyo). Keep in mind that this handset might not exist so don't cry if your dreams get shattered here.

  • ro.product.board=cortex1.5ghz: Here’s the mention of the 1.5Ghz chip. Qualcomm justannounced that they’d be making a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon chipset last month, and they’re not expected to hit devices for months – but if anyone had an engineering sample or two, it’d be HTC.
  • ro.product.model=HTC Olympian and ro.product.name=htc_scorpion: The names believed to be the internal codename and the tentative sales name.
  • wimax.interface = tiwlan0: WiMax!
  • ro.build.id=FRE65C: Google names their builds after sweets, alphabetically. The Nexus One has the latest build, “Eclair”, with a build ID of “ERE27″. The next build is codenamed “Froyo”.

Apple Looking For Software Engineer To Work On the Camera For the Next iPad

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like Apple is looking to add a camera in a future iPad model, which isn't all that surprising. To confirm this, Apple is looking for a software engineer that will work for their iPad Media division, "with the specific intent of testing still and video camera capture, as well as playback.". Check out the job listing (here) if you're interested or bored. There's not really anything else to tell you here. Maybe they're going to surprise us all with a camera on the current iPad model. Maybe they're planning to launch a better model later this year with a couple of cameras - and maybe even Flash support and a new version of OS X.

Intel Set To Launch Core i7-660UM 1.33GHZ CPU In Q3, Able To Overclock To 2.4GHz

Labels: ,

Intel looks like they're set to launch their Core i7-660UM CPU in Q3 of this year. It's normal clock speed is just 1.33GHz so it's not all that fast until you overclock this sucker. You'll be able to overclock this bad boy to a nice and steady 2.4GHz so it'll be ready for anything intense you throw at it. This'll be pretty useful in a couple of those ultraportables you see floating around - I'd assume something from Asus.

LG Officially Announces the Candybar GX200 Handset

Labels: ,

What you see above is another entry-level / low-end dumbphone from the LG camp. This is the LG GX200 and it'll actually feature dual-SIM card slots which is quite amazing. Other specs include a 2-inch display, a microSD card slot, a 1.3MP camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 1,500mAh battery, and a microUSB port. This handset should be available in Russia soon for around 3,990 rubies ($131 USD).

Play.com Taking £499.99 Pre-Orders For the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10

Labels: , , , , , ,

If you trust Play.com (another online e-tailer) the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be available from them starting on March 29th. It'll be available for £499.99, which is about $682 USD, and that's unlocked, of course. It's quite a hefty price tag - although not as much as I was expecting. I don't think it's worth the extra $150 from the Nexus One, but it does have its advantages. You can start pre-ordering it now (here) if you'd like.

Nvidia Announces New Automatic GPU-Switching Technology, Call It Optimus

Labels: , , , , ,

Nvidia has just announced their latest technology that is made to save you some battery. It has something to do with automatic-graphics switching (which at this point is done manually), which is great. "NVIDIA has debuted new Optimus tech that takes over the task of choosing what GPU to use and switches between the two automatically depending on what is needed at the time. The machine will known when you stop writing that email, switching to playing your favorite PC game, and change the GPU used without you even having to think about it." This technology is expected to included in new Intel Core 2010 and Pineview Atom CPUs. Nvidia's own GeForce 200M, 300M, next-generation GeForce M, and Ion 2 GPUs will utilize this new technology.

This technology will debut in March with Asus' notebooks bringing this technology to the market. Maybe Apple will be refreshing their MacBook Pros shortly after with Core i5 / i7 CPU options and Optimus.

Notion Ink Adam Tablet Features Pixel Qi Display, 20+ Hours Battery Life, Nvidia Graphics, 1080p / Flash Support, and Android OS

Labels: , , , , , ,

Everyone's launching tablets (although I don't see the point) to try to compete with the Apple iPad. The Notion Ink Adam tablet will be capable of doing a number of things better than the iPad. The Adam tablet will be capable of spitting out 1080p content, it'll have Flash support, a Nvidia chip, a battery life that should last at least 2 times longer than the iPad's 10 hour battery life, and the Android OS. There'll supposedly be two different models, one being 12.9mm thin and the other being 11.6mm thin. On paper the iPad may be beat, but who'll win in real life - especially since Apple could drop the price of the iPad to snub everyone. Let's just wait until next week since they'll be showing it off at - I guess - MWC.

MWC is set to kick off this weekend and Samsung just couldn't wait until then so they've just announced their S5620 Monte. LG GT350 Handset Officially Announced, the Neon (KS360 / TE365) Successor

Labels: , ,

I have an LG Neon (KS360 / TE365) and it's got a software issue and decides to reset whenever it feels like while I'm writing a text message. Thankfully, LG has just unveiled the successor to that phone, so this is the GT350. This handset has a slide-out 4-row QWERTY keyboard (slightly different from the Neon), a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display (full touchscreen unlike the Neon's dialing-only touchscreen), and Facebook / Twitter integration. This handset will be available in a couple of colours (blue, purple, silver, and black) starting in April when it launches in Europe.

Samsung (Probably) Looking To Debut Their Super AMOLED Display On a Bada Phone

Labels: , , , ,

Below is a picture of Samsung's new Super AMOLED display on an unnamed Samsung phone beside the iPhone. As you can see it's got deep blacks, a slightly smaller screen, and the Bada OS pre-loaded. This could be hinting that the 3.3-inch Super AMOLED display could very well be on an upcoming Bada phone that Samsung is going to announce at MWC in a week.

LG Announces the Mini GD880, Leaves Out Price and Release Date

Labels: , , , ,

The LG Mini GD880 looks like it has just been officially announced! It took them long enough, but they just couldn't wait until MWC. This handset will be bringing a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera, and WiFi / aGPS support to the table. The full spec sheet hasn't been mentioned so we don't have a confirmation on the resolution of the display right now. Of course, this handset will have social integration, the S-Class UI, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity. The price hasn't been mentioned but it should be launching in Europe this March, so we'll definitely see it at MWC.

Verizon Releases the LG Accolade (VX5600) For $19.99

Labels: , ,

This was definitely expected. Verizon has just released the LG Accolade (VX5600) for $19.99 on a 2-year contract after a $50 rebate. Check it out here. The Accolade is an entry-level slider handset that has a 1.04-inch external display with a 64 x 96 resolution, a 1.76-inch internal display with a 176 x 220 resolution, a 1.3MP camera, a non-standard 2.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth support, and a WAP browser. There's no microSD card slot so you're stuck with the internal memory on this dumbphone.

27-Inch Apple iMacs Start To Ship Out Today!

Labels: , ,

Things haven't been smooth sailing for the 27-inch iMac, but it looks like Apple is ready to start shipping these out. Someone got this notification above and it clearly states that his 27-inch iMac has been shipped out this morning and it's set to arrive by February 16th. Hopefully they've ironed out all of the problems!

In Terms of Android Codenames, G Stands For Gingerbread

Labels: ,

Following Android? C was for Cupcake, D was for Donut, E was for Eclair, F is for Froyo, and G will be Gingerbread. The codename isn't all that important since it tells us absolutely nothing about what the next iteration of Android will bring. We also don't know if this will be version 2.5, 3.0, or something even smaller. I wonder what H will be.

Nokia Nuron aka 5230 Launching On March 17th With Unknown Price Tag

Labels: , , ,

I'm pretty sure this is a confirmation that T-Mobile USA's Nokia Nuron is really the Nokia 5230. This leaked photo also tells us that this handset will be launching on March 17th and it'll feature specs we already know, such as: a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 3G connectivity, and Nokia's Ovi Store. The price hasn't been mentioned here, but we should know the price over the next month or so.
