Verizon Set To Launch Palm Pre "Plus", Motorola Calgary (as the Devour), and the WinMo 6.5 LG VS750

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Verizon has been on a roll lately, especially when they launched the Motorola DROID. Well, the ugly sibling of the DROID (above) is the Motorola Calgary which Verizon could actually be launching as the Devour. This handset will feature: a 3MP camera, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and MOTOBLUR over top of Android 2.1! The software doesn't help make the hardware look anymore attractive though.

The rumours also state that there's a new Palm phone in Verizon's inventory and it's the Palm Pre Plus. At this point we don't know how this handset will differ from the Palm Pre on Sprint, but maybe we'll see this at CES 2010 or MWC 2010. Only time will tell.

The last handset that is being tossed around is the LG VS750. This handset will reportedly be running Windows Mobile 6.5, but we don't have a picture of it yet.

This is a pretty good deal - if you're willing to deal with Sprint - since Verizon has the same smartphone for $99 on contract. Head over to Sprint's website for more information.

Labels: , , ,

This tablet is dubbed the Notion Ink smartpad, which is a tablet of some sort. It's looking damn great on the spec sheet and the picture of the tablet looks pretty cool too. This tablet will be outed with the Nvidia Tegra chipset (capable of 1080p playback) and it will pack a 10-inch Pixel QI touchscreen display. This tablet will also be running on Android, which is great news. This tablet is expected to run for 48 hours of standby time, 8 hours of HD video, and 16 hours of WiFi surfing on battery, which is pretty darn good. Let's hope this makes a showing at CES 2010

LG GD880 / GD880 Mini Spotted, Unknown OS Though

Labels: , ,

Cell Passion has just uncovered a new handset from LG that will launch as either the GD880 or the GD880 Mini. This handset should feature: a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 854 resolution, a 5MP camera, aGPS  / Bluetooth 2.1 support, 100MB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, an FM radio, a 900 mAh battery, and quad-band GSM / dual-band UMTS connectivity. Unfortunately, it seems to be lacking WiFi and will not be an Android phone, so it could be a WinMo phone I assume.

Update: According to Cell Passion, the anonymous commenter below was correct. The LG Mini GD880 has just been spotted cruising around at the WiFi Alliance. So yes, this handset will have WiFi support, but the OS - I believe - is still unknown.

Sprint's Samsung Moment and HTC Hero Getting Android 2.1 In H1 2010

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Sprint's official Twitter account has just announced that both the Samsung Moment and the HTC Hero will be getting Android 2.0 in 2010. We don't exactly when in 2010, but we're guessing it'll be in Q1, but don't quote me on that. HTC still has to polish up their Sense UI to work properly with Android 2.0, so I'm sure they're having a ball doing that.

Update: According to Slash Gear, although Sprint's official Twitter account mentioned that they'd update the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment to Android 2.0, they have backtracked on that. The good news here is that they'll still be updating both handsets, but it'll get the slightly newer Android 2.1! It's still scheduled for the first half of 2010. Yes, the tweet is above.

Clear Photo of a Legit BlackBerry Essex With Verizon Logo

Labels: , , , , ,

Yup, this is another picture of the BlackBerry Essex which is essentially the BlackBerry Tour successor. As you can see in this photo, this smartphone will be headed to Verizon - see the badge? The BlackBerry Essex replaces the trackball with a much better optical trackpad and also has enough room for WiFi - which the Tour was missing. Of course, this smartphone will also have things like a 3.2MP camera, a microSD card slot, and Bluetooth 2.0 / 3G support.
