Sharp Readying Tablet / E-Book Reader For Japan This Fall, US Later On; With 3D Potential

Labels: , , , , , ,

Sharp announced something that looks pretty good this morning and it's the slate you see above. It's being touted as an e-book reader - not a tablet - and they're looking "to rival the iPad." As you can see it looks like it'll be sporting a coloured LCD display and has potential for 3D support, which might drive the price up a bit. Sharp is being known lately for their Parallax 3D displays so you'll see 3D images without the need for glasses. This tablet / e-book reader is said to be hitting Japan this Fall and could actually hit the US before the end of the year.

LTE-Packing Samsung (R900) Craft Could Hit MetroPCS In September For $300

Labels: , , , ,

Three days ago, the Samsung (R900) Craft leaked out in pictures and Unwired View has a bit more information regarding the launch of this LTE-packing handset. If you read the title then you already know where I'm headed. Apparently, MetroPCS will be launching the Samsung Craft sometime in September. It'll be sporting a touchscreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2MP camera, and the Touchwiz UI. It's pretty sad that the specs aren't all that high-end - you can't even consider it a smartphone. But, that'll keep the price down which is rumoured to be $300 contract-free.

Apple Holding Their Annual Event On September 1st, iPod Refresh and Apple TV Incoming?

Labels: , , , , ,

The latest word on the street is that Apple will be holding their annual September event on the 7th and it'll, of course, be focused on media. This includes the predictable iPod refresh (new Touch, Nano) and could actually be the announcement / release of the next Apple TV, which may or may not include 99 cent rentals. This would be really interesting and would be the start of the next Google and Apple war since they're already competitors on so many different levels. You never know, maybe it'll also be the event where Apple will pull the big unveil on their MacBook Air update as well.

Update: iPodNN has just pointed out that Apple has officially announced that they'll be holding their event on September 1st which is on a Wednesday - different from their usual Tuesday-held events.

Windows Phone 7 Based LG C900 Will Hit the Market As the "Pacific"? -- E900 To Be the Optimus 7

Labels: , , , , , ,

The LG C900 leaked out in pictures last week, thanks to Engadget but it looks like Boy Genius may have got a little bit more information. According to their sources, the C900 will be called the "Pacific" when it hits the market. It seems like a codename, but it could actually end up being the real name whenever it launches. We'll really just have to believe them for now.

Update: According to WMPowerUser, the LG E900 that also leaked a couple of days ago will be called the LG Optimus 7. Out of these two, I think this one has the better name.

Motorola Quench XT5 Leaks In Pictures, Confirms What We Know

Labels: , , ,

Motorola's Quench XT5 may have just been pictured and it's not exactly new information since we've seen it before. This handset has been leaking out since May but the specs may be set in stone now. You'll reportedly get a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display an FM radio, DivX support, a 5MP camera with a flash, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity, and Android 2.1. Judging from the lack of 850MHz 3G bands though, this one likely won't be hitting the US Engadget points out. Oh well, we already have better Android-based smartphones anyway so don't be sad. It looks pretty cheap anyway.
