Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60 and M20 Hitting Singapore Next Month -- August

Labels: , , , , ,

The Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60 has been delayed for a while now, but apparently it is finally going to get launched next month (August) in Singapore. The Nuvifone M20 is also launching next month, but I wonder who cares at this point. I'm sure some people do, so the launch is scheduled to be "within 30 days." Mark it on your calendars... if you really feel like.

Viliv S7 UMPC's Battery Life Tested in Korea

Labels: , , ,

Viliv's latest UMPC offering, the S7, has just been spotted in Korea. A couple of people tested out the battery life of this UMPC, but before I go through that I'll briefly go through the specs of this UMPC. So the Viliv S7 has: a 7-inch swiveling touchscreen with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, an Intel Atom CPU, runs on Windows XP, and is said to have a battery long enough to last 9.5 hours. After the battery life testings took place, these were the results below.

  • Video playback: 6 hours, 13 minutes (DivX, 720 x 400, 1.64Mbps, wireless off, max screen brightness); 7 hours, 28 minutes (XviD, 640 x 480, 1.64Mbps, wireless off, mid screen brightness)
  • Korea@Home distributed processing: 5 hours, 45 minutes (WiFi on, max screen brightness)
  • DMB viewing: 6 hours, 50 minutes (full-screen, wireless off, mid screen brightness)

Clearly, the battery didn't last 9.5 hours, but they're decent enough to last for a majority of your day. If you want to check out a full spec sheet of the Viliv S7 UMPC, take a peek at this link, via Pocketables Products.

Well, some people in North America were hoping that this LG watch phone would hit our shores. Fortunately, this is a shot of the LG GD910 hitting the FCC and, yes, it passed through. This means that it'll get launched in America sometime in the future. We don't know when or for how much, but we'll just have to see what happens by the end of the year.

Philips Xenium X830 Handset Official Pictured and Specced Out

Labels: ,

Back in June, we heard about the Philips Xenium X830 handset and it's actually a decent-looking mobile phone - at least, I think so. These official photos have just been spotted and so have the official specs. The Xenium X830 handset has: a 3-inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 240 resolution, quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS/EDGE, Stereo Bluetooth, a 5MP AF camera, FM radio with RDS, a microSDHC card slot (support for up to 8GB), and miniUSB connectivity. However, the official spec sheet doesn't mention GPS or WiFi, but both of these specs will probably pop up somewhere before launch. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this handset will have any support for 3G. The price and release date haven't been mentioned yet.

Blockbuster Now Selling Archos 10 Netbooks For Just $299

Labels: , , , ,

This netbook has the standard netbook specs: a 10.2-inch display, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD. I have no clue why Blockbuster is selling this netbook, but I don't really care. I see it as just a little bit of desperation to the "struggling video chain." Fortunately, this netbook is only priced at $299 USD, which is the same price as Amazon.

Telus Canada Launching the LG BL40 On Its New HSPA Network This October?

Labels: , , , , , ,

This morning, I reported that the LG BL40 passed the FCC without 3G. Just to recap, the LG BL40 is expected to have: WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, an FM transmitter, and a measly 1,000mAH battery. Engadget has come up with an amazing vision that the LG BL40 could actually be launched on Telus' "new HSPA network in Canada as its first GSM device" - which is scheduled to launch this October. This, like the rumoured iPhone 3GS, would be a great start to Telus' HSPA network.

Intel Atom N450 Netbooks to be Shown Off at IDF This September

Labels: , , , , , , ,

According to good ol' DigiTimes, we will see netbooks equipped with Intel's Atom N450 CPUs at this year's IDF 2009 - which takes place from September 22 to 24. The Atom N450 won't be much faster than the current N270 / N280 Atom CPUs, but it is said to consume less power and it will also take up less space. In the end this will probably mean longer-lasting, thinner, and quieter netbooks in the future.

Phone Arena think so. "Donut" is going to be Android 2.0 and apparently some software developers are already preparing their apps to run on the Android 2.0 SDK. So, could "Donut" be available before the Summer ends? It's possible. It could be around the same date the HTC Hero gets released to the US aka probably AT&T. Like the Google Chrome OS - only time will well.

Android-Based LG GW620 Eve Handset Revealed?

Labels: , , ,

Other specs include: a 320 x 480 display (possibly touchscreen) and a QWERTY keyboard that is probably of the slide-out variation - unless it's like the Palm Pre. Last week, this handset passed through the WiFi Alliance. What makes this news interesting is that this could be LG's first Android handset. However, it looks like this handset doesn't have Flash support.

U.S. Cellular Launching BlackBerry Tour, HTC Snap and HTC Touch Pro 2 This Year!

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

The only reason why we know this information is because of U.S. Cellular's rebate plan that was just leaked out. It has a bunch of phones on the list, but the most interesting ones are clearly: the BlackBerry Tour, the HTC Snap, and the HTC Touch Pro 2. This rebate sheet is effective from July 17th (today) to November 12th. All three of this handsets - and all of the other ones - are expected to launch within this time frame. Nokia N86 Hitting AT&T / T-Mobile This Year?

Labels: , ,

According to Electronista, Nokia mentioned that they would launch the Nokia N86 to the US of A. The handset will be the same as the European model that has "an absence of local 3G but support for GSM and EDGE data." This would mean that this phone could be capable of launching on AT&T or T-Mobile. However, Nokia hasn't mentioned if a NAM (North America Model) will be available in the future with 3G support. But, it did pass the FCC a while ago, if you remember.

I forget the specs of this phone and I'm sure you have by now too. The main specs of this phone is its: 8MP AF camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash, 2.6-inch AMOLED display with a 240 x 320 resolution, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 + A2DP, and microSD card slot. Other specs include: a 3.5mm headphone jack, an ARM 11 434MHz CPU, microUSB connectivity, FM radio with RDS, and aGPS. Don't forget that this handset is running on S60 3.2 Edition. Oh yeah, it has those ugly-looking plasticky keys.

Update: According to Boy Genius, the Nokia N86 will be hitting Nokia flagship stores around the US in "the next few weeks."And apparently, the NAM model of the Nokia N86 will be making its rounds for around $558 USD - which is unfortunately a little bit more expensive than the €375 ($528 USD) overseas.

LG's 32-Inch OLED TV Delayed Until 2012

Labels: , , , ,

According to LG's CEO, Kwon Young Soo, they don't plan to release their 30-inch OLED TV until 2012. You may remember, but back in April we heard that LG would start shipping their 30-inch OLED TVs in 2011. Well, it looks like it's delayed a year now. Fortunately, it looks like they'll still be releasing their 15-inch OLED TV by the end of the year.

Watch out LG because Samsung and Sony are said to be releasing their mid-sized OLEDs by mid-2010. Oh yeah, don't forget about Panasonic's 37-inch OLED TV that's scheduled to launch 15-21 months from now.

Update: According to Tech Radar, LG's OLED TV planned for 2012 is actually 32-inches, not 30-inches, just in case you care.

Nokia N97 and 5800 XpressMusic Best Sellers on Vodafone UK

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The Nokia N97 - that's overpriced in North America - is available on Vodafone UK for free, that's probably why it's Vodafone UK's top selling mobile phone of July - so far at least. In second is another Nokia handset, the 5800 XpressMusic. The Sony Ericsson W595, C510 CyberShot, and Samsung Jet round out the top 5 mobile phone sellers on Vodafone UK. The bottom five of the top 10 include (in the same order) the: Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition, Samsung Steel L810, Nokia 6300, BlackBerry Storm, and HTC Magic. I just though it was interesting to mention this since the Nokia N97 used to be one of my favourite mobile phones until I read all of the reviews. Top on my list now is the gorgeous and updated Samsung i8910 OmniaHD.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 Hitting PSN on August 13th For $15

So much for Marvel vs Capcom 2 coming out on XBLA and PSN in "late July." Last week, we heard that MvC 2 would hit XBLA on July 29th, but the PSN date was still TBD (To Be Determined). Google Chrome OS Hitting Mobile Phones -- What's Going to Happen to Android?

Labels: , , ,

I don't know how possible this is, but apparently the Google Chrome OS - in the future - could hit mobile phones. So much for Android being the only mobile phone OS for Google. Only time will tell, to be honest. The Google Chrome OS looks like it will swallow up netbooks, desktops, as well as mobile phones - or maybe I'm just looking too distant in the future. Google, what are you up to?

After the Chrome OS hits mobile phones what will happen to Android? Will they fuse Android and Chrome together? I doubt it. But, I think this could mean that a mobile Google Chrome browser could be in the works.

We should hear which carriers will have this soon - and the prices of course.

LG BL40 Could Be the Chocolate 4 Headed to Verizon, Doesn't Have 3G!!

Labels: , , , , ,

Let's recap, shall we? Last week, we heard that LG would be launching a new Black Label handset that would be their iPhone rival. At the beginning of this week, that was revealed to be the LG Chocolate BL40. Well, two days ago I mentioned that Verizon has the "rights" on the LG Chocolate 4 and at the time, we didn't know what that could be. Apparently, the LG BL40 could be the Chocolate 4, so good job on Verizon's part.

Now for today's news. The LG BL40 has just surpassed the FCC, so it could be on its way soon. The very, very sad part about all of this is that the LG BL40 doesn't have American 3G! What is LG thinking? I really hope this is a mistake of some sort because that is a really big disappointment. How can you expect to be an iPhone rival without 3G? It doesn't even make sense. Two thumbs down for GSM 850 / 1900.
