China Telecom Launching the Samsung F839 Soon

Labels: , , ,

We heard about it 4 days ago and Samsung has just made it official. Samsung will be launching the F839 handset in China. This handset has: a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 resolution, a 3MP camera, GPS / Bluetooth 2.0 support, 100MB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, an FM radio, Office docs support, DivX video playback, and a 1,000mAh battery. This handset also comes with 3G bands and is set to launch on China Telecom pretty soon. Unfortunately, the price hasn't been mentioned yet, but it shouldn't cost a whole lot.

Future Shop Already Offering Rogers BlackBerry Curve 8520 For Just $49

Labels: , , , ,

I can actually confirm that this is true since I went to a Future Shop this morning and saw this before I read this article. Anyways, even though Rogers just launched the BlackBerry Curve 8520 yesterday, it's now available for $49.99 CAD on a 2-year contract - this sale ends on October 15th. I tested out this smartphone today and noticed that the QWERTY keyboard buttons are stiffer than the Bold and the Curve 8900, but maybe it's just cause I was using the dummy unit...

Nokia Launching N86, 2730, 6350, 6750, and "Holiday Red" E71 By the End of This Year

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Although the details are scarce, it looks like Canada will get the Nokia N86, Nokia 2730, Nokia 6750, the Nokia 6350, and even a new colour for the Nokia E71 later this year. They'll likely launch on Rogers and Fido, but it's unconfirmed at the time. The most exciting hand is the N86 - hands-down - with its 8MP camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, a 2.6-inch QVGA AMOLED display, GPS / WiFi support, and 8GB of internal storage.

The other handsets are much lower-end. The Nokia 2730 has: a 2-inch QVGA display, an FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2MP camera. The 6350 and 6750 are both basic flip phones. The new colour of the Nokia E71 is a "Holiday Red."

Telus Launching HSPA Network On November 3rd, Definitely Launching the BlackBerry Bold 9700, LG BL40, Nokia E71 HTC Hero and iPhone

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Like we heard in September, Telus' initial HSPA smartphone line-up could be very impressive. According to Boy Genius, this has been 100% confirmed. Telus will be launching the iPhone 3G and 3GS (we know that), the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (likely named the Bold 2), the LG BL40, the Nokia E71, and the Android-packing HTC Hero. If this is 100% true like they're saying, Telus is going to have a field day running around Rogers with their HSPA 21Mbps network, but will the consumers hop on-board: that's the question.

Update: According to Electronista, Telus will be launching their HSPA network on November 3rd. Let's hope all of these handsets will be available at launch.

Maemo 6 Launching In Late 2010 With Capacitive Multitouch Support

Labels: ,

We heard about it back in early September, but now it's confirmed thanks to these slides. The follow-up to Nokia's Maemo 5 - seen on their N900 - Maemo 6 will have capacitive multi-touchscreen support - just about 4 years behind Apple and the iPhone. Like the N97's home screen, Maemo 6 will have a customizable home screen, thanks to the oh-so-popular thing we like to call widgets. "Nokia also intend both portrait and landscape support for Maemo 6, which up until now only supports the latter." Maemo 6 is expected to see a launch in late 2010, which is a step back.

Steve Ballmer Introduces a New Giorgio Armani Handset; 5-Inch AMOLED With QWERTY

Labels: , , ,

At this point, I'm still not sure whether or not this is the Giorgio Armani 2, but it's a pretty damn good luxury phone. Introduced this morning by Mr. Steve Ballmer himself, this handset has: a 3.5-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (which actually looks a bit like the Touch Pro 2's buttons), 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera, GPS support, a microSD card slot, and WinMo 6.5. This is a hot looking handset, but it'll cost €700 (1,030 USD) which isn't exactly as cheap as some people would want. Below is a video that you can watch if you feel like.

Update: According to GSM Arena, this handset is the B7620, so that means it also comes packed with: Bluetooth support, WiFi, TV output, HSPA connectivity, 192MB of RAM, and an ARM1176 800MHz CPU.

Barnes & Noble Launching Coloured Plastic Logic E-Book Reader In Spring 2010

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

For a couple of days, there were talks of a Barnes & Noble e-book reader and that rumour turned out to be true. It's already passed the FCC and Barnes & Noble themselves has just confirmed it themselves. Dubbed the Plastic Logic e-book reader, it will be launching in Spring 2010 - with colour, obviously. They seem to be taking shots directly at Amazon's Kindle because it seems like they'll also be releasing an app for the iPhone, BlackBerry, and even Android devices. It could be too little too late with all the talks of Microsoft and Apple's tablets on the way next year. Be sure not to miss the video below.
