Labels: , , , ,

After months of waiting, Canada's Bell looks like they're finally going to launch the BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100) on June 4th. Although the documents above state that it'll be available for $129.95 on a 3-year contract, the rebates will likely bring it down to $49.95 (or $29.95). Thankfully, this handset will be running on Bell's faster HSPA network.

11.7-Inch Sony OLED Panel Prototype Makes An Appearance At SID

Labels: , , ,

Not unveiled at Computex is the 11.7-inch Sony OLED panel. This was being shown off at a more appropriate event, SID 2010. This OLED panel has the same 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 960 x 540 resolution as the XEL-1 so it has a lower pixel density since the display is larger. The brightness of the panel is significantly better though since it's 600 cd/m2 (up from 200 on the XEL-1). This is still a prototype for now, so don't expect this to hit market anytime soon.

Samsung Galaxy S To Hit 110 Countries Later This Month

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

According to Korea IT Times, Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy S simultaneously in 110 different countries. This is pretty cool and we've known that it's going to hit Korea this month, so 110 countries will be getting it this month. It's pretty awesome, but I'm not sure if Canada will be one of those countries - I doubt it. It should be hitting the US though, thanks to AT&T.

Labels: , , , , , , ,

I've already covered the AT&T-bound HTC Aria (here), but it looks like some other phones have been named as well. The Samsung i897, which is supposed to be a variant of the Galaxy S, will supposedly be named the Captivate, while the Samsung a597 will become the Eternity II. Let's see if these both become a reality, the i897 Captivate is - I think - the more important one.

Three MeeGo-Based Tablets Spotted At Computex, The Quanta Redvale Impresses Engadget

Labels: , , , , ,

What you see above is the Quanta Redvale tablet and this sets itself apart from the packs. It has a pretty nice design and it's based on Intel's 1.5GHz Moorestown CPU and the MeeGo OS. Engadget seemed very impressed with this tablet even though it's in its pre-alpha stage right now. It's set to hit the market in 2011 so it's still quite a ways away. They just had to test this one out for themselves and they mentioned that it was incredibly thin, light, and played 720p video playback "smoothly." Even though the display was resistive they said that it was very responsive. Of course, if you head to Engadget's site, they have a hands-on video with this tablet.

Update: Slash Gear also spotted two more MeeGo-based tablets, the Wistron W1 and the CZC P10T (pictured below). Who knows whether these will hit the market.

Acer Shows Off Sluggish Prototype Tablet With Qualcomm 600MHz CPU and Android

Labels: , , , , , ,

Acer has decided to cook up the tablet you see above. It's smaller than most tablets out there, which I like but it's not as snappy as anyone would like. For this prototype / concept, they decided to use a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz CPU, which is a no-no for a tablet - even though it is running Android. Responsiveness was out the door with this one and the UI wasn't even finished. Acer definitely rushed this one so let's hope this exact model doesn't hit the market. Maybe they were just waiting for that dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU.

Of course, it has some social network integration and it should be priced at around €149 ($183 USD). In Italy, this handset will be called the Tribe Next, which is kind of a weird name for a phone but it can't be the worst.

LG Shows Off Their UX10 Prototype Tablet With Atom Z530 and Windows 7

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Of course, LG had to join the mix of tablets being shown off at Computex. Their offering is being named the UX10 and it's sporting a 10.1-inch LED capacitive touchscreen display. This prototype is packing an Intel Atom Z530 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 1.3MP webcam, an SD card slot, WiFi b/g/n, a 7,200mAh battery, a microHDMI port, and Windows 7. It may seem good on paper, but an Atom CPU and Windows 7 won't cut it if they're going to try to beat the iPad. It's all about speed. Anyways, check out the link below for their hands-on video with this prototype tablet.

Android-Based HTC Aria Gets Pictured, A Fusion of the Legend and the EVO 4G

Labels: , , , , ,

The HTC Aria is rumoured to be hitting AT&T in the future and apparently what you see above could be the first picture of said handset. It reminds me of an HTC Hero or the Legend to be honest; however, the buttons of the handset look like they've been pulled from the EVO 4G. One thing's for sure, this definitely isn't the PC70110 that hit the FCC. The rumours states that this handset will get unveiled on June 7th, so AT&T better be preparing something soon before Apple announces the next iPhone.
