It's said to be a hybrid e-book reader along with a notepad - obviously the two things a good student should be doing the most. There'll reportedly be audio and video features. The display is said to be LCD, but the release date wasn't mentioned. It's clear that companies are trying to persuade schools to ditch books and go for their e-book readers instead.

First HSPA Handset For Koodo Mobile Will Be the Nokia 3710

Labels: , , , ,

I don't know why Koodo Mobile in Canada would do this but to kick off their upcoming HSPA launch the first handset that will be available will be the entry-level Nokia 3710. I expected something better for a big launch, at least a BlackBerry, but I guess not. The HSPA launch is rumoured to be on May 18th, so at least the upcoming BlackBerry smartphones that they're going to launch will hopefully follow soon after with HSPA connectivity. The Nokia 3710 is supposedly going to launch for $200 contract-free.

Labels: , , ,

We knew this was on the way and it looks like it has been just about confirmed thanks to this inventory leak. Telus will be releasing the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 in both black and pink colours. iPhone 4G / HD That Leaked Out Was a "Near-Final Prototype"

Labels: , , , ,

Just like I thought. The iPhone that Gizmodo got their hands on is said to be a "near-final prototype." "The N90_DVT_GE4X_0493 label is known to refer to both the codename for the next phone (N90) and that it's a Design Verification Test unit, or one made 'very late' into development to prove that the finished design works." Of course, this is expected, but I'm still hoping that Apple increases the screen size to 3.7-inches even though this prototype is said to feature a slight decrease in screen but amping up the resolution.

HP Said To Be Working On Linux-Based Tablet As Well

Labels: , , , , ,

According to the New York Times, HP is gearing up a number of tablets. Of course, we already know about the HP Slate and the 6-inch Android tablet, but that's not all they have in store for the market. Apparently, they're also working on a tablet that'll be running a Linux OS and HP isn't denying it right now.

Cowon D3 PMP To Run the Android OS, Nothing Else Known

Labels: , , ,

Cowon has a couple of PMPs that are already out, but they're reportedly working on the D3, the successor to the D2, and it's rumoured that it'll be running Android. This will be a small PMP and it'll pack around a 3-inch touchscreen display along with other PMP functionalities. Hopefully there's TV output because I don't think anyone wants to watch anything on a small 3-inch display - unless you're on the go that is. Like their J3 PMP, they should use the 3.3-inch AMOLED display.

Nokia Posts Results For Q1, Symbian^3 Device Expected In Q3

Labels: ,

Engadget is mentioning that Nokia is delaying their first Symbian^3 handset until Q3, but Unwired View mentions that Nokia never said anything about launching said device in the first half of 2010 so it's not delayed - per say. Either way they both agree that the first Symbian^3 powered handset is expected in Q3 of this year. Nokia posted their Q1 2010 results and they're below, courtesy of Unwired View.

The Finnish company’s nets sales (including sales from services, Nokia Siemens networks and Navteq) totalized €9.52 billion – a 3% increase compared to sales in Q1 2009, but a 21% decreased compared to sales in Q4 2009.
Nokia’s net profit in Q1 2010 was €820 million – 60% higher than in Q1 2009 and 44% lower than in Q4 2009.
107.8 million Nokia phones were sold in Q1 2010 (33% global market share) – compared to 126.9 million in the previous quarter (Q4 2010) and 93.2 million in Q1 2009. The average selling price (ASP) was €62.
Of the 107.8 million units shipped in Q1 2010, 21.5 million were smartphones, like the E72 (pictured below), which will soon have a White Edition.

Somewhere between May 18th and the 26th they should be getting a silver BlackBerry Curve 8530 and a pink BlackBerry Pearl Flip. Samsung's ARM Plans For the Future Leaks Out, Aquila 1.2GHz Quad-Core Cortex A9 In 2013

Labels: , , ,

More leaks and this time it's from Samsung and it's regarding their future ARM processor usage. Later this year we should be expecting the Taurus, a 1GHz (S5PV210) Cortex A8 chip. Either late this year or early next year there's the Mercury, which is the Cortex A5 clocked at 600MHz and should find a home in some lower-priced handsets / PMPs / MIDs. The Orion is expected early in 2011 and it's the Cortex A9 clocked at 800MHz. Later on in 2011 we should expect the Pegasus which is the Cortex A9 which is clocked at a speedier 1GHz.

In early 2012 it starts to get interesting. First up for that year is the Hercules, which is a dual-core Cortex A9 at 1GHz. There's also the Venus which is expected in 2012 - 2013 which is dual-core Cortex A5 600MHz and the Draco which is a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex A9 chip. Of course, the best one is coming in 2012 / 2013, codenamed the Aquila which will be a quad-core Cortex A9 at 1.2GHz.

This leak also tells us that Samsung plans to launch some netbooks in the future with ARM processors instead of the traditional Intel CPUs. These, I suppose, will be cheaper when they hit the shelves. If Apple doesn't buy ARM, everything should work out as planned - likely with slight delays.
