Philips Ultra-Widescreen Cinema 21:9 HDTV Pegged With $7,400 Price Tag in UK

Labels: ,

Remember the ultra widescreen Philips Cinema 21:9? Well, the sad news is that the price tag for this HDTV gets higher and higher everytime we hear about it. According to the latest price tag published in the UK, it will be available for around $7,400 USD. That's a lot of money to pay to get rid of those ugly black bars at the top and bottom of your screen, but is it worth it? It's up to you, but I'm sure most of you will say it's not, since I still hear complaints over displays with a 16:9 aspect ratio. There is still no word on if it will hit the US shelves.

Blizzard Patents "Cataclysm" - Next MMO?

Labels: , , , ,

While working on StarCraft II and Diablo III, Blizzard is working on an unannounced MMO. According to the latest anonymous tipster, Blizzard has just reserved the name "Cataclysm." This is obviously sparking a huge surge in the gaming community. Could that be the name of Blizzard's unannounced MMO or could it just be another boring World of Warcraft expansion? Maybe we'll find out at Blizzcon this year, so let's play another round of the waiting game.

Nvidia Tegra II Available Sometime Next Year, Said to Be Twice as Fast as Tegra 1

Labels: , ,

The Nvidia Tegra has yet to hit the market officially - and it's going to be used in the Zune HD later this year - but there's already talks about the Nvidia Tegra II. According to Crunch Gear, Tegra II could hit the market next Summer (2010). This would mean that Tegra 1 won't even be around for a year until it receives an upgrade. Nvidia has stated that Tegra 2 will be "twice as fast and powerful as Tegra 1" which is an impressive feat. The battery life should also improve, even though it's already rumoured to be amazing.

Nikkei Says That USB 3.0-Equipped PCs Will Be Here By the End of 2009

Labels: ,

According to Nikkei, companies will start to ship USB 3.0-Equipped PCs before 2010 hits, meaning by the end of this year. The last prediction was that it would be early 2010, but it looks like we might be able to get a new PC with USB 3.0 for Christmas this year! Its full potential won't be reached for a while, but I think a 4.8Gbps transfer speed is definitely something to look forward to, am I right? Just to recap, courtesy of Gizmodo.

With transfer speeds of 4.8Gbps, it'll dump a 25GB HD file in about 70 seconds, and the architecture has been beefed up with extra data lanes to make for more sustained, rather than bursty transfer speeds, making it better for camcorders and the like. Even though it delivers more power than USB 2.0 to charge gadgets faster (and it'll revive a completely dead one too), its new polling architecture makes it more efficient.

LG Announce 22-Inch LED-Backlit TV / Monitor With 2,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio

Labels: , , , ,

This is LG's first LED-backlit TV / monitor, the W2286L, and it's sweet - to say the least. It's a beautiful 22-inch display with: a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, an overwhleming 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and is pretty eco-friendly because it uses 40% less power than the average 22-inch displays out there - thanks to the Auto Brightness feature. It's 20mm thick and has two HDMI inputs on the back. The LG W2286L is scheduled to be available in Korea soon, but the price in the translation wasn't exactly accurate, so I don't know the price yet.

In related news, LG is working on a 24-inch model of this panel that's expected to hit the shelves before 2009 closes.
