Sony Ericsson "Anzu" Gets Pictured, Packs 4.3-Inch Display and Gingerbread; Launching Q1 2011

Labels: , , , , ,

There's a few companies out there that are back in the game thanks to Google's Android OS. One of them is Sony Ericsson and, apparently, they have a new smartphone in the pipe for Q1 2011. The smartphone (pictured above) is said to be the "Anzu" and it reportedly features a 4.3-inch display (a bit bigger than the 4.1-inch display on their X10), an HDMI output, a "very, very slim" body, and Android "Gingerbread". As you can see, it looks quite similar to the XPERIA X10 and that's not that much of a big deal. Let's really just cross our fingers and hope that the software is on point.

Update: Yes, the photo above is the "Anzu" but it's just running Eclair at this point. The rumour mill is swirling around and mentions that this new flagship device could be launching as the X12 - they really like to skip numbers. Apparently, this could also launch with Honeycomb but knowing Sony Ericsson my bet's on it shipping with Gingerbread still.

BlackBerry Playbook Rumoured To Be Making a Splash In February 2011, Cost Under $500

Labels: , , ,

There's a new rumour going around about the launch of the BlackBerry Playbook tablet. Trinidad & Tobago's TSTT's Jay Alvi has mentioned that RIM intends to launch the Playbook in February 2011, which qualifies as early 2011. This tablet should give the others a run for their money, at least, that's how it stands on paper. The Playbook features a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, a 3MP front-facing camera, a 5MP camera on the back, 1GB of RAM, a dual-core 1GHz CPU, and a new OS made by QNX.

Update: Business Week has actually pointed out that that RIM's Playbook tablet will be hitting the market for less than $500 to challenge the iPad head-on. Of course, that could mean a $499 price tag (unlikely though) so we'll just have to wait and see.

Update: According to The Next Web, RIM plans to ship the Playbook in Q1 in North America and in other regions in the second half of the year. Price is said to be $499.

BlackBerry Storm 3 Codenamed Monaco, Montana To Be the Touchscreen Bold (aka 99xx "Pluto")?

Labels: , , , ,

There's a couple of new rumours going around regarding some future smartphones from RIM. First off, there's said to be a BlackBerry Storm 3 which is being codenamed as the Monaco internally. Specs are still unknown right now so you'll have to wait around for that important information. All that you can take out of the rumour right now is that there will be a Storm 3 - if this rumour turns out to be true. Keep in mind that the supposed Storm 3 image that leaked in September did have a sticker of a giant "M" on it - this could be reaching a bit.

What could be the more exciting smartphone is what's being rumoured as the BlackBerry Montana. This smartphone is said to be a touchscreen Bold so you can think of this as the 99xx or the Pluto. You should definitely take these with a grain of salt because neither rumour has been confirmed at this point - not even by CrackBerry or BBLeaks.
