Apple iPod Touch With a Camera Was Real -- Most Likely a Prototype

Labels: , , , ,

Many people - including myself - were surprised / disappointed that Apple decided not to go with a camera on the new iPod Touch - instead they added it to the iPod Nano. According to the latest and what looks to be legit news, the iPod Touch with a camera was definitely real. It was most likely an Apple prototype. It looks to me like Apple / Steve Jobs decided that they wouldn't want to lose a tiny bit of profit so they pulled it last minute. This is simply because they only care about the profits and money they make. Thanks Apple.

Atmel Creates Chip That Will Handle Large Capacitive Touchscreen Displays

Labels:

Atmel has introduced a new chip that will be capable of creating capacitive touchscreen displays as large as you want them to be. "The first controller, the mST224, has 224 nodes that enable it to track multiple inputs and can redraw the screen in just 4ms. Like all maXTouch products, everything is integrated onto a single chip, without the need for external components, minimizing both the cost and the footprint. Multiple mXT224 controllers can be used in very large screens." For everything you need to know, check out the link below, it's pretty thorough.

Sharp Creating Laser For 75GB and 100GB Blu-Ray Discs

Labels: ,

Sharp isn't exactly known for their Blu-ray advancements, but they look like they're working pretty hard. Sharp has introduced a new technology that will increase the capacity of a Blu-ray disc to 75GB and 100GB - "from the current standard of 50GB." This technology seems pretty complicated, but if you're really interested then enjoy the read here. As of right now, we don't know when this technology will burst onto the mainstream scene, so we'll have to play the waiting game.

Update: Sharp is actually creating a laser that would be capable of reading 75 and 100GB Blu-ray discs.

Motorola CLIQ Launching Next Month -- Even If the Chart Doesn't Say So

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Although in the picture above it shows that T-Mobile will launch the Motorola CLIQ in November, according to the reports, it's also outdated. We have no proof here, but we heard this morning that the CLIQ would be launching in October and that date sticks whether there is proof or not - simply because that's what everyone else is saying right now. Either way, it looks like it'll be here in time for the holiday season.

Optima OP3W Netbook Packs 3G Integration

Labels: , , , ,

Optima has just shown off their latest netbook, the Optima OP3W, and it has integrated 3G connectivity. Other specs include: a 10.1-inch matte display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, three USB 2.0 ports, an integrated 1.3MP webcam, VGA / Ethernet port, a 4-in-1 card reader, audio jacks, and a 3-cell 2,200 mAh battery that should last 3 hours. Since this appears to be a netbook with standard specs, don't be surprised to find an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD. This netbook should be launching on China Telecom, but we haven't heard of a price tag or release date yet. You can take a look at a hands-on video below.

T-Mobile USA Launching Android-Based Motorola CLIQ In October

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

We already know that the Android-based Motorola CLIQ will be available for pre-orders on Orange UK on September 22nd as the Motorola DEXT, and now we know that T-Mobile could be launching this handset as early as next month (October). We don't know the price right now, but it won't be in the high-end $199.99 category. We do know that for a brief stint, T-Mobile had the CLIQ listed for free on a 2-year contract and $400 off-contract. Hopefully that price becomes a reality for Motorola's sake. This is the first Android-based Motorola handset that will be running MOTOBLUR - their customized Android UI.

Windows Mobile 7 To Be A No-Show At PDC This Year

Labels: , , , , , ,

Two weeks ago, we heard that we could see Windows Mobile 7 as early as this November at PDC. Well, Microsoft has been cruising the interwebs because they just denied any rumours of WinMo 7 showing up at PDC this year. Maybe we'll see something about the second part of WinMo 6.5 though. By the way, I have no clue why this was the photo on WMPowerUser.

As I’m sure you know, Microsoft and its partners are squarely focused on introducing the Windows phone brand through the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 in October [October 6], which includes working closely with ISVs and developers to add even greater value to the Windows Mobile platform and new business opportunities for its mobile channel ecosystem. To properly set your expectations, wanted to let you know that Microsoft is not planning any sessions for PDC that look past the Windows Mobile OS in market at that time.

Microsoft Picture and Video Shows Off Gaming on the Zune HD

Labels: , , , , ,

Since the Zune HD will have Nvidia's Tegra chipset, it should be a great device for gaming - kind of like how the iPod Touch is - but better GPU-wise if the right games are released. Well, this image above [and video below] is the first photo [and video] we've ever seen that shows off Microsoft Zune HD's 3D gaming - not popping out of the screen 3D though. We'll just have to see how this works out because it's launching in just 3 days - only in the US - on September 15th.
