Sony Expecting A 10-15% Sales Increase In PSP/PS3 This Year

Labels: , , ,

This is what head of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment of America, John Koller, said earlier this week. Sony's PS3 sales went up 40% from 2007 to 2008, but apparently Koller's estimates are "modest." EEDAR is predicting a 25% increase for the PS3 alone and an increase of 16% for the PSP. On the other hand, Koller said that the PSP will see an increase this year because of various software packs and the game lineup. We'll see how this year shapes up for Sony Entertainment.

Skype App Downloaded A Million Times In Only Two Days

Labels: , , , , ,

The title speaks for itself. The free Skype App that came out earlier this week was downloaded over one million times in the first two days of its release. If that's not impressive enough, that comes out to 6 downloads per second. Incredible. I really think that they should have charged at least the minimum fee for the Skype App because it would've made a load of cash. This is one of the fastest-downloaded iPhone apps ever, which is an incredible feat. I'm sure those phone carriers are getting screwed now.

Yankee Stadium's Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision Measures 100 by 60 Feet

Labels: ,

LaserVue move aside. The new Yankee Stadium is unveiling itself today to the whole world with the Yankees' annual team workout. This is "the most advanced, high-definition Diamond Vision display in sports." This is not a jumbotron or a scoreboard so do not get it mixed up. The Diamond Vision is simply magnificent. The gorgeous display is 100 feet wide and almost 60 feet tall, delivering 1080p HD video on 5,925 square feet utilizing 8,601,600 LED lamps. I'm definitely going to watch a Yankee game before I die just to stare at this amazing screen. As of right now, there is no word on Mitsubishi planning to build anything more spectacular than this.

Nokia N97 Shown Off At CTIA Wireless

Labels: , , ,

Everytime I see new [or old] pictures of the Nokia N97, I find myself day dreaming about owning the smartphone one day. Although it probably won't happen, it sure would be amazing if I ever could own it. I just drooled looking at Boy Genius' new shots of the N97 at this year's CTIA Wireless. Boy Genius mentioned that the price of the Nokia N97 will be over $700 USD which is a significantly lower mark than the rumoured price of $1,075 USD Expansys had up early last month. I hope it's around the $700 USD mark, but I'm guessing an $850 - $900 USD price range since the specs are just getting outdated the longer it is delayed. If you want a couple more photos on the Nokia N97 you know the drill.

Nokia Ovi Store Will Be Available Next Month

Labels: , , , , ,

BalckBerry officially launched their app store yesterday and now here's something something that I'll be able to use. Nokia's App Store, dubbed Ovi Store, will be available next month so it's on track to be released in May just like we heard last month. I'll be able to use Ovi Store when it is released and I'm certainly excited. I've always wanted an app store, but I'm probably only going to get free apps because I'm cheap like that. Maybe Skype will be released for Nokia phones too, kind of like how it'll be on the BlackBerry in May. It'd be interesting if that were possible. So look out for Nokia's Ovi Store next month, their very own app store.

Samsung N120 Netbook Now Available For Pre-Orders

Labels: , ,

The 10.1-inch Samsung N120 netbook has a standard keyboard and its 6-cell battery is expected to give you around 10.5-hours of battery life. The netbook doesn't lack in any category, except for possibly not having an Intel N280 processor. It has an integrated 2.1-channel audio because it has enough room for it. Making the keyboard the standard size looked to be a good move because the speakers fit perfectly around the display of the netbook. You can now pre-order your own Samsung N120 online for around $450 USD; if you find a deal over $475 USD you could be getting ripped off.

Motorola Renew W233; Safe For The Environment

Labels: , ,

Finally us Canadians are getting something that is a world first. If you live in Canada and are willing to use Fido (like me) you can purchase the Motorola Renew W233. This is the world's first cellphone to be made up of recycled water bottles, in addition to being 100% completely recyclable. If you really want to save the environment, the phone package will come with a pre-paid envelope so that when you're done with the phone you can send it for recycling. Although it is the first 100% recyclable phone, the specs are subpar and is your average candybar phone. It has a display that sports 65K colours, dual-band GSM, a mini USB connector, some music keys, a 2.5mm headphone jack, and weighs only 83 grams. The phone is now and only available in Canada through Fido for $0 CAD on a 2-year contract.

New Windows Live Client Includes Windows Live Messenger

Labels: , ,

Microsoft has released a new Windows Live client for Windows Mobile users. In addition to it being free, it comes with a slew of updates, such as: a mobile version of Windows Live Hotmail that works with push / pull sync, Windows Live Contacts, Windows Live Spaces, Microsoft Live Search, "enhanced" photo upload capabilities, and Windows Live Messenger - a long time coming. If you have a touchscreen device, you will download the Pro version; the Standard version is for non-touchscreen phones. The new client is available in 25 languages right now, but that could expand in the future. The new Windows Live Hotmail mobile beta has: the ability to view full HTML pages in an e-mail message, a new e-mail search, a new UI, and navigation enhancements for touchscreen devices. It's good to see that Microsoft is headed in the right direction by releasing this client for free; it's a well-needed upgrade for all Windows Mobile users.

Reactable Multitouch Table Doubles As A Musical Instrument

Labels: , ,

While it may not be Microsoft's multitouch Surface computer, researchers from Pompeu Fabra University have built the Reactable multitouch table. The researchers have lately been stepping it up by forming their own company, Reactable Systems, and are pushing to get the table into production. The Reactable multitouch table has a more simplistic design and keeps every object as a "puck" so that it is much easier to understand and locate where everything is. When the pucks get closer to each other they can interact with each other, possibly to make music because they are focusing on its "potential as a musical instrument." The multitouch table has no price or availability just yet, but you can watch the video below for a quick demo.

MSI AMD-Powered GX733 Gaming Laptop

Labels: , ,

The said laptop is the GX733 and it has a 17-inch WUXGA display and will run on the AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor. Usually laptops tend to have an Intel processor mainly because it's faster and only slightly more expensive; the AMD processors are a bit slower but they are also cheaper, so that could be good for some consumers. The GX733 gaming laptop also has the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3 graphics card, up to 500GB of HDD storage, 2GB of DDR2 RAM [which could be a bit small], an optional Blu-ray optical drive, an integrated 2.0MP webcam, a 4-in-1 card reader, 6 or 9-cell battery, gigabit Ethernet, and rounds off the hardware with Bluetooth 2.0. It also has a couple of ports, including: 3 USB 2.0, and HDMI / VGA output. MSI hasn't revealed the pricing or availability of this laptop, but that news should surface soon.

FileFront Is Back Online!!

Labels:

FileFront shut down for a grand total of only 2 days. FileFront was owned by Ziff Davis Media and they planned to shut it down on March 30th. Well it happened - they did shut it down - but so did the unthinkable. FileFront was bought on April 1 (NOT an April Fool's Joke) by the original founders of FileFront. Right now, the price has been undisclosed, but I'm sure it will surface later today (April 2). FileFront made it clear that the initial announcement of the shutdown was not an "early" April Fool's joke and neither is the fact that they are going to be back online. They also mentioned that they are "happy to be back!" FileFront gave a very brief history of their past, so if you want to read the post just click on the link below for all of the details.
