Twitter Makes Slight Design Change
Unlike Facebook, Twitter can make a change to their website and users won't complain about it. Amazing. "The change turns 'Replies' on the service into 'Mentions,' and groups them under a tab on the left labeled" with your @username. It includes every single time your @username is mentioned by someone instead of when Twitter used to just keep in track of when your @username was at the beginning of the tweet. Basically, if you use TweetDeck, it's nothing new. I love how you can shorten URLs right in TweetDeck, it's really useful for me.

HP Testing Android Netbooks
Asus has already mentioned that they are working on their own netbook running Android and now its HPs turn. They are apparently running tests for Android-based netbooks already. Apparently, this so-called netbook is said to be low-cost and be 3G-connected. Keep in mind that just because they are running tests doesn't mean that it will actually be released so don't get your hopes up too high. Nonetheless, I'm damn excited for this. I'd rather use Android than get this Conficker worm tonight.

Anyone Scared For Conficker / Downadup At Midnight?
According to my knowledge, the Conficker / Downadup worm has been around since last October and targeted all Windows users. It was made by exploiting one of the holes in Windows. Microsoft patched it up later, but some of the public decided not to install the update because they might have turned their automatic updates off or for some other absurd / unknown reason. To show that it was a real serious threat, Microsoft issued out a $250,000 USD reward for whoever turned in the Conficker worm creator. Apparently, it only affects 9 million PCs (same amount from the January estimate), but it's still extremely serious. The latest rumour has it that Conficker C will be activated at midnight tonight - conveniantly April Fools Day - and your computer could then be "prompted to buy fake software products, or it could start monitoring your keystrokes to lift sensitive information like banking passwords. Files could end up deleted, or it might transform your computer into a zombie PC while staying under the radar." I guess this is one advantage the Mac has over the PC. On a side note, if you want to read a full length article on everything you need to know / how to stop the Conficker worm, click on the link below.

Samsung's LED-Backlit HDTVs And Blu-ray Players Official Pricing And Availability!
The Samsung Series 8000, 7000, and 6000 LED-backlit HDTVs may be confusing to tell apart, but I think you should know that they are all just about an inch thin, have Netflix capabilities, and will all be available in the first-half of this year. The 8000 will sporting 240Hz technology (4 times regular TVs), the 6000 will use 120Hz technology and 40% less power, and the 7000 will just be the middle-man - it will also have 120Hz technology and won't save the environment as much as the 6000 Series will. For pricing and availability we'll start off with the Series 8000 and go down from there.
Note: All money figures will be in USD. The 8000 Series will be available in May 2009. The 46-inch model will be $3,299.99 and the 55-inch model will be $3,999.99. The 46-inch and the 55-inch 7000 Series model will be released in March. The 46-inch model will be $2,999.99; the 55-inch model will be $3,799.99. The 40-inch 7000 Series model will be released in April and will be $2,499.99. The 40-inch, 46-inch, and the 55-inch 6000 Series model will be released in March. The 40-inch model will be $2,299.99; the 46-inch model will be $2,799.99; the 55-inch model will be $3,599.99. The 32-inch 6000 Series model will be released in June and will be $1,599.99.
Along with the new LED-backlit HDTVs from Samsung, their Blu-ray player lineup was also officially priced and dated with availability. The Samsung BD-P1600, BD-P3600, and BD-P4600 will be going on sale for $299.99, $399.99, and $499.99, respectively. According to my former knowledge, the 3600 and the 4600 will both have Netflix and Pandora streaming but I'm not sure about the 1600. The 1600 and the 3600 are actually now available at a number of stores. The one that really stands out is the BD-P4600 (pictured) Blu-ray player because it is only 1.5-inches thin - although you can't tell from this angle. The 4600 will be available in April and according to Best Buy's website it will be available on April 19.

Sanyo SCP-2700 Hitting Sprint On May 10
In case you're interested in this lackluster phone, it will be available later this year via Sprint. Besides having a QWERTY keypad and the wanna-be smartphone look it has a fairly unimpressive spec sheet. The Sanyo SCP-2700 has a 1.3MP camera, Sprint Navigation, Bluetooth and your colour choice of either Impulsive Pink or Deep Blue (pictured). Don't forget, it will be available on May 10 on a 2-year contract through Sprint for only $29.99 USD after a $50 mail-in rebate. Yuck.

Final Fantasy XIII Will Use Almost 100% Of PS3's Power
Final Fantasy XIII is hitting Japan later this year and then hitting North America early next year. Everyone is excited about how this game turns out. Apparently, the Final Fantasy XIII demo uses only 50% of the Playstation 3's power. That is said to increase to "nearly 100 percent" for the final FFXIII release. The screenshots of Final Fantasy XIII are looking amazing, but I'm wondering if those screenshots captured Final Fantasy XIII and the Playstation 3 at its best. I really hope this game turns out well, unlike FFVIII and FFIX, I disliked both of those games. Remember Final Fantasy XIII is expected to be released on the Playstation 3 as well as the Xbox 360 over here, but in Japan only a PS3 version has been announced.

Skype For The iPhone Is Not Available In Canada... Or Is It?
If you have your iPhone / iPod Touch 2G and live in the US, you should have already gotten your chance to try out the free and new Skype app. Well, us Canadians are not going to get that option. It is not going to be available for Canada. It sucks, but is it really surprising? With Hulu, Pandora, and Last.fm (unless you want to pay) all being US-only we get no love up here, just north of the border. No one knows who to blame. It could be Rogers / Fido but a company spokesperson says that the Skype app won't be available to Canadians because of a patent-license issue. But wait... there is a work-around.
According to The Apple Blog, "you can always go the backdoor route and just download and sync Skype using an American iTunes account, which is not a difficult thing to get regardless of your country of origin. That's exactly what I did, and so now my iPhone is fully Skype-capable in Canada." Although, he is having some problems, he is going to guess that it is because of a iPhone 3.0 OS bug. Canadians try it out!

It has an 8GB and 16GB model, 50 hours of battery life, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, and an FM radio / recorder, etc. The U5, on the other hand, has a small 1-inch OLED display, 20 hours of battery life, 2GB of memory, and an FM radio. They are going to be released this April for $99.99 USD (8GB Q2), $129.99 USD (16GB Q2), and $39.99 USD (U5).

Samsung Finesse Gets Leaked
The most recent leak from Samsung is the Finesse. It's a basic touchscreen handset with sub-par specs. It has a 3.2-inch WQVGA (400 x 240 resolution) display, a 2MP camera, a microSD slot, 3G (no Wifi), GPS, Bluetooth, and is only 0.49-inches thick. Since it was just leaked today there is no word on carrier, price or availability at the time. Look out for it at a later date, I'll update you on that.

Samsung Instinct Mini From Sprint
This is the first official shot of the Samsung Instinct Mini which will be released by Sprint later this year. It is anticipated to have an official announcement in the next couple of days, most likely at CTIA Wireless which starts tomorrow. This is the son of the Samsung Instinct which was released last year. It's got the same buttons and the same touchscreen, no word on the exact screen size though. Actually, no spec sheet is available, so just expect the official announcement from either Samsung USA or Sprint in the next couple of days.

BMW And HP's New Workstation Has 196GB of RAM
Sorry Dell, but 192GB of RAM just isn't enough anymore. The fairly slim workstation you see above is from HP and was designed by BMW DesignWorksUSA. I don't know who was in charge of making this workstatation look fairly ugly, but it's not that important. The HP z800 workstation has: "Nehalem quad-core Xeon 5500 processors, two Nvidia Quadro 5800 graphics cards, and room for 196GB of RAM." Yes, it beats out the - already massive - 192GB of RAM that the Dell T7500 workstation has room for. Kudos for being so damn thin for a workstation; it makes the Dell T7500 look massive.

AT&T's 6 New QWERTY Phones: Nokia E71x, Samsung Propel Pro, Impression, Magnet, LG Xenon, Neon
With CTIA Wireless starting in 2 days (April 1), it's no surprise we're receiving lots of new and announced phones. AT&T has just announced their newest 6 handsets: The Nokia E71x, Samsung Propel Pro, Samsung Impression (A877), Samsung Magnet, LG Xenon, and the LG Neon. They all pack a QWERTY keyboard / keypad, so if that's what you like then this is great news for you.
The Samsung Propel Pro is a slider smartphone with a QWERTY keypad. It has: a 2.55-inch screen with a 320 x 320 resolution, a 3MP camera with auto focus, WiFi, GPS, a 528MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 3G, HSDPA, a microSD slot, Bluetooth, and a USB 2.0 slot. The specs aren't bad but it might turn you off to know that the phone is running on Windows Mobile 6.1. It will be available on April 14 through AT&T for $150 USD on a 2-year contract.
The Samsung Impression A877 has a 3.2-inch AMOLED (first AMOLED screen to hit the US) touchscreen with a WQVGA resolution and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It has quad-band GSM / dual-band UMTS with HSDPA support, Bluetooth, a 3MP camera with video recording, and a microSD card slot. This phone will be available on April 7 - later than the supposed March 29th release date - through AT&T for $200 on a 2-year contract.
The Samsung Magnet has a QWERTY keypad and is nothing fancy. Its spec sheet is not available, but it should be the least expensive out of the 6 handsets. It will be available through AT&T in a couple of weeks, but there is no word on the price.
The LG Neon has an ugly colour scheme, but it does have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It packs a 2.4-inch screen, Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, a 2MP camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot to expand the on-board memory, of course. It will be available shortly through AT&T for $100 USD on a 2-year contract.
The LG Xenon is the nicest looking phone out of the 6, in my opinion. It has a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 240 resolution and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It has quad-band GSM, dual-band UMTS with HSDPA support, a 2 (or possibly 3) MP camera, Bluetooth, a USB 2.0 slot, a microSD card slot, and WiFi. It should be available on April 9 through AT&T, but the price has not been announced yet.
Thank you GSM Arena for all these details!!

Last.fm Delaying Mandatory Paid Subscriptions
Last week, Last.fm announced that they would soon start charging a mandatory fee for its users outside of the United States, UK, and Germany. Well, Last.fm's latest blog post (which was today) talked about how they are delaying the mandatory €3.00 fee because of a bunch of negative feedback from its users. Again, they cleared up the fact that they're not making enough money with the advertisements, hence the move to a mandatory payment. If you want to know what the whole blog post was about - including paying via your cell phone bill - click on the link below.
