Acer Aspire G aka Predator Makes the Scene, Should Launch This Year

Acer has just announced an updated model of their Acer Aspire G aka Predator desktop PC. However, this time it's a little bit faster. This desktop PC has: an Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz CPU, up to 12GB of DDR3 RAM, up to a 1TB HDD, dual Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 graphics cards, four DVI-D ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and a Blu-ray drive. You can get all of this plus the orange case for around ¥259,800 (around $2,700 USD) when it launches. Hopefully, it'll be here by the end of the year, I mean, if you're still into desktop PCs.

Samsung Announces YP-R0 PMP

Samsung has just announced another one of their PMPs; this time it's the Samsung YP-R0. This PMP has: a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, 8GB of on-board storage, a microSD card slot, an RDS FM tuner, and a microphone. It weighs around 60 grams and is expected to hit the market for around €130 ($183 USD). We don't know exactly when it'll launch, but it should launch soon.

Solo Mobile Launches Samsung Link For $25

The Samsung Link is already available at Bell and Virgin Mobile, but it looks like it has just been released by Solo Mobile as well. On Solo Mobile, this handset is going for $25 CAD on a 2-year contract, $125 CAD on a 30-day / no term agreement, and $150 CAD on a pre-paid plan.

In comparison, Bell has the Samsung Link going for $0 on a 3-year contract, $49.95 CAD on a 2-year contract, $225.95 CAD on a 1-year contract, $279.95 contract-free and $299.95 on a pre-paid plan. Meanwhile, Virgin has the Link for $29.99 CAD on a 3-year contract, $49.99 CAD on a 2-year contract, and $99.99 CAD on a 1-year contract / contract-free.

Best Buy Ad Shows the Telus Motorola Rival For $99.99

Telus looks like it is also going to release the Motorola Rival sometime next month (August). This recent picture is a Best Buy ad for the handset. When it is available, it will be priced at $99.99 CAD on a 3-year contract, $199.99 CAD on a 2-year contract, $249.99 on a 1-year contract, and $299.99 CAD contract-free. The Motorola Rival has: a 2-inch display, a 2MP camera, GPS, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and Bluetooth support.

Telus Launching LG KEYBO2 on August 7th

Probably the best place to scoop up future Canadian phone releases, Mobile Syrup, is back at their A game today. The LG KEYBO2 looks like it will be released by Telus for $129.99 CAD on a 3-year contract, $229.99 CAD on a 2-year contract, $279.99 CAD on a 1-year contract and $329.99 CAD contract-free, respectively on August 7th. The KEYBO2 has: a 1.56-inch external display, a 2.6-inch internal display, a QWERTY keyboard, a 3MP camera with video capabilities, and is slightly larger than the original KEYBO2. I believe this is the Canadian version of the LG enV3.

Nokia 5800i Passes FCC, Better Camera But No WiFi -- Headed to China

According to the latest FCC filing, the Nokia 5800i has just been pushed through. It's not a direct upgrade from the regular 5800 XpressMusic, but there are a couple of differences. According to GSM Arena, the camera could be slightly upgraded, since the sensor may be a bit larger; another difference is that the 5800i doesn't look like it has WiFi support. I don't know if I'd trade WiFi for a slightly better camera, especially when it's only 3.2MP to begin with. We'll see if this gets a US / Canada launch.

Update: It looks like the 5800i that has just passed the FCC is headed to China and could be launched on China Unicom - according to Boy Genius.

Lenovo Teases New IdeaPad U450p Notebook

Lenovo has just teased us about one of their upcoming notebooks, the IdeaPad U450p. The spec sheet, release date, and price haven't been mentioned yet, but we do know a bit about this notebook. According to the banner, it will have a "nice" 14-inch display, some kind of Intel ULV CPU, and an optical drive. Slash Gear suggests that it will probably run Windows Vista Home Premium. This looks like it will be a variant of the IdeaPad U350, so we're expecting up to 8GB of RAM, an HDMI output, and integrated GMA 4500M/4500MHD graphics as a standard. Look out for it sooner rather than later.

LG Chocolate BL40 Passes FCC Again, This Time With 3G Support!

Nope, this is not old news. Unlike when it passed the FCC two weeks ago, the "LG BL40g" has 3G support, which is great news. Unfortunately, "Engadget is reporting that they have been told by LG that there is currently no plan to bring the "New Chocolate" to the U.S., this could be version of the BL40 that will be wearing the Telus brand while trying to dodge that cold, artic (should be arctic) Canadian air." As of right now, we still don't who will carry the "New Chocolate" but we'll just wait and see. 3G is on-board though folks.

HTC Touch Pro 2 Hitting Sprint on September 3? HTC XV6975 Touch Diamond 2 and HTC XV6875 Touch Pro 2 Hitting Verizon Soon

It looks something's up over at Verizon. According to the latest news, the HTC Touch Diamond 2 aka HTC XV6975 and the HTC Touch Pro 2 aka HTC XV6875 was just spotted in Verizon's inventory system, which means that it could get launched soon. However, we still don't have confirmation that the XV6975 is the Touch Diamond 2, but it's a pretty good guess. However, it looks like another carrier will be handling the Touch Pro 2. Sprint's scheduled to launch this phone on September 3. Let's hope that Verizon gets it first - well, if you want.

LG Whistle Launches in Seoul for $325

Yeah, it's a phone. Not what you expected? Well, it looks like the 2G LG Whistle is now available in Seoul via LG Telecom. Right now, it's only available in three colours - even though there's four colours in the picture above - and it's retailing for around 400,000 won ($325 USD). Probably the most interesting feature about the LG LV7500 Whistle is that you can customize the 115 LEDs on the front so that you can display just about whatever you want. Talk about extreme customization.

This picture - if real - could tell us quite a bit about Sprint's future handsets. According to the picture, Sprint will be launching the HTC Hero and the Samsung InstinctQ M900 on October 11th - two Android devices in one day! It looks like the BlackBerry Curve 8530 "Aries" could also launch later this year, on November 1st; it looks like they will also be launching a direct successor to the LG Lotus, the LG LX610 Lotus 2, sometime next year. Of course, we don't know what the prices will be like.

Michael Arrington's CrunchPad Expected to Hit the Market This November For Around $400

Surprisingly enough, I've never talked about Michael Arrington's CrunchPad tablet before. This tablet has some updated specs, it has: a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, a USB port, and WiFi / 3G support. The CrunchPad is expected to hit the market in November for around $400 USD. iiView Pushes Out Their A2 Laptop, Looks Like a MacBook Air But Runs Windows 7

The iiView A2 notebook / notebook may look like a small version of the MacBook Air, but it runs the Windows 7 RC instead. Just in case you're scared to use the Windows 7 RC, it has Windows Vista Home Premium as well. The iiView A2 has: a 12.1-inch display with a 1,280 x 800 resolution, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, a 320GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, WiFi b/g, two USB 2.0 ports, a mini-HDMI port (whatever that is), traditional audio jacks, and a 6-cell battery. Next week, iiView will push out this mini-notebook in Singapore for around $467 USD.

Sharp and Sony Finalize LCD Joint Venture in Osaka

Back in March, we heard about this deal and now it looks like it's final. Sony and Sharp have finally reached the "final agreement to launch an LCD panel joint venture in Osaka, after having failed to ink the deal last month." This factory will be focusing on their mid-sized 32-inch models and this joint venture will start in March 2010 in Osaka.

Sharp will start operating a plant for the production of LCDs on its own in October. The subsidiary is to be turned into a joint venture by March 2010. Sony is expected to take a 34% stake and cover 34% of the $4 billion total cost. In return, the company will get some of the LCDs produced in the Sharp plant in Osaka (and another one in Southern Japan).

Dell Inspiron 17 Now Available in the UK Too

Remember the Dell Inspiron 17 that was released two weeks ago? Well, it's now available in the UK. The Inspiron 17 is retailing at a starting price of £369 ($608 USD). If you remember, this notebook has a 17.3-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, your choice of a couple of different Intel CPUs, up to a 500GB HDD, up to 8GB of RAM, ATI graphics, a 6 or 9-cell battery, a 1.3MP webcam, a 7-in-1 card reader, WiFi, Bluetooth and it runs on Windows Vista Home Premium. The Inspiron 17 will come in the 7 colours shown in the picture above. Like every other Dell laptop, the specs can be changed around to however you like.

LG to Release New SL80 and LED-Backlit SL90 HDTVs Starting Next Month

LG has just revealed its latest LCD HDTVs that are scheduled to make an appearance starting next month (August). The LG SL80 LCD HDTVs have 240Hz technology, old-school CCFL backlighting which means only a 300,000:1 contrast ratio and it measures 1.8-inches thick. The LG SL80 will come in 42, 47, and 55-inches and will be available in August for $1,599 USD, $1,899 USD, and $2,799 USD, respectively. We don't know exactly when they will be available though.

LG also showed off higher-end SL90 LCD HDTVs too. These, on the other hand, are LED-backlit, which makes for a crisper and brighter picture. These HDTVs have: a 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz TruMotion technology and it measures only 1.15-inches thick. The SL90 is going to hit the market later this year for an unknown price, but it will be available in both 42 and 47-inches.

Finally, the HTC Touch Pro 2 and HTC Snap Are Now Available on Telus in Canada

It was only a matter of time until HTC launced these two phones, since Telus recently got the dummy units. In Canada, Telus is now selling the HTC Touch Pro 2 and the HTC Snap. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is now available on Telus' official website for $249.99 CAD on a 3-year contract, $549.99 CAD on a 2-year contract, $599.99 CAD on a 1-year contract, and $649.99 CAD free of contract. It's certainly not cheap.

The HTC Snap has Inner Circle, which "lets you somewhat personalize your e-mail settings by selecting a number of people that you deem to be important. Once pressed, this Inner Circle button then shows all the e-mails of your group so you'll no longer need to search your device for them." On Telus' official website, the HTC Snap is going for $0 (promotion) on a 3-year contract, $299.99 CAD on a 2-year contract, $349 CAD on a 1-year contract, and $399 CAD free of contract. Update: I just headed over to Telus today and they said that they're expecting the HTC Touch Pro 2 to hit their stores next month. Hopefully, you'll have more success than I had.

Samsung Releasing 8500-Series LED-Backlit LCD HDTVs This September

Samsung has just outed their first LED-backlit HDTVs with local dimming. Other features include: a 7,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2ms response time, "Auto Motion Plus frame interpolation, and an Ultra Clear Panel that 'works to improve image clarity and brightness regarless of a room's ambient lighting.'" You also get Yahoo's widget engine for streaming video and it's just 1.6-inches thick. The 46-inch and 55-inch model will be available in September for $3,600 USD and $4,500 USD, respectively.

Motorola "Sholes" Android Phone Could Launch on Verizon This October, Shocks Us All

Woah, what's this from Motorola? An actually decent looking Android handset from them has just popped up. The Motorola Shoeless "Sholes" supposedly has: a 3.7-inch touchscreen display with a 480 x 854 resolution, CDMA / EVDA Rev A support, 512MB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 256MB of RAM, a 5MP AF camera, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and WiFi. In addition to that great news, it looks like you'll also be getting an 8GB microSD card in the box.
It's not the best looking device out there, but it is mighty impressive coming from Motorola. The addition of a QWERTY keyboard is very welcomed and the nice large touchscreen is as well. This handset is, apparently, going to hit Verizon this October. It's the first time we've heard about this device, so I'm just reminding you that it is just a rumour.

Maybe Motorola was right when they said that their Android phones would get them "back in the smartphone game".

Acer's Dual-Booted Android and Windows XP Netbook to Be Available in Q3

It may not launch in August like we've been expecting, but Acer has just given us great news. The Acer Android netbook will be hitting the shelves in Q3, so there's no need to panic. I don't know about you, but my heart isn't all-in on Android anymore, since the Google Chrome OS could be available this year / next year.

Update on July 4th: According to DigiTimes, Acer mentioned that it will launch this notebook in September 2009. I think I missed that point, so I'm just going to reiterate that point for you.

LG's LH50 HDTVs First to Have VUDU Integration

Yesterday, LG and VUDU announced that the upcoming LG LH50 line-up will have VUDU's high-definition streaming service.

The outfit's next generation movie platform will enable owners of the 47LH50, 50PS80, 60PS80 and 42LH50 to buy or rent HD and HDX (1080p) films on demand through a refreshed user interface that promises no stutters or buffering waits. The new VUDU also brings along instant fast forward and rewind as well as instant start for all movie qualities, and as before, there's no monthly fee associated with the service.

This is a pretty damn good deal, especially since VUDU will be hitting existing and new users starting next month (August). During the press release, VUDU also hinted that LG will be the first of many TV companies that VUDU will be launching on.

Three days ago, we heard about Philips' first Android device, but most of the specs were unknown. According to the latest news, the Philips V808 will be hitting China Mobile as an exclusive and will run on an updated OPhone OS. This means that the app store will be "carrier-customized". Unfortunately, it looks like this handset will not have 3G, WiFi, or multitouch support. Well, I think it was obvious that this wouldn't have multitouch, but not having 3G / WiFi support? What are they thinking? Oh well, it looks like this will create little buzz.

Verizon Releasing the Samsung Rogue U960 on August 15th, Verizon Razzle on August 31st

We already know that the Samsung Rogue U960 will be hitting Verizon next month (August), but we didn't know exactly when. Apparently though, this handset will be launching on August 15th on Verizon. We haven't heard a price tag yet, but we'll probably have that soon.

Another handset that's scheduled to hit Verizon next month is the Verizon Razzle. It's scheduled to hit Verizon on August 31st and will replace the Blitz. The Razzle has: 1.3MP camera, a full QWERTY keyboard, Stereo Bluetooth, and a bundled 1GB memory card. The price tag for this is also not mentioned.

Intel's Atom "Pine Trail" Still On-Track For This Year, Says Intel's GM

Apparently, Intel's Atom Pine Trail architecture may actually be released this year, which contradicts what we heard before. Intel's General Manager of Mobile Platform Group, Mooley Eden, has just mentioned that the rumours are "greatly exaggerated" and that this new chip will be available this year. This is great news and maybe this will be enough for Asus and Acer to get off their butts and ship out some new netbooks this year.

T-Mobile Cuts Prices of the Samsung Comeback and the Samsung Highlight

Even though both of these handsets were launched under three weeks ago, T-Mobile has already decided to cut their prices. The Samsung Comeback was launched 8 days ago and T-Mobile has cut the price down to $74.99 USD - from $130 USD - on a 2-year contract after a mail-in rebate. The Samsung Highlight was launched on July 15th and now costs $129.99 USD on a 2-year contract, which is down slightly from $149.99 USD. They're both still overpriced, but it's up to T-Mobile to change the prices and not us.

Logitech Releases Seven Webcams, Some HD-Capable

Logitech has just released seven new webcams. The Webcam Pro 9000 has: 720p capable video recording, a 2MP sensor, a Carl Zeiss lens, and "automatic light compensation". This webcam is available for $129.99 USD; the C905 has the same features, but it's built for notebooks and is now on sale for $129.99 USD as well. The C600 has: a 2MP HD sensor, and RightLight 2 technology. This is going for $99.99 USD. The Logitech C500 has: a 1.3MP sensor and RightLight technology and is on sale for $69.99 USD. The C300 also has a 1.3MP sensor, but it's not available on Logitech's official website yet. The C250 has a VGA sensor and is priced at $49.99 USD. Last and least is the C200 that also has a VGA sensor, but loses all of the features that some of the other webcams have. It's now available for $39.99 USD.

Damn Logitech, you didn't have to release seven webcams in one day!

Windows 7 RTM Already Gets a Crack -- Now Blocked

Torrent folks - if you haven't already - should scoop up the Windows 7 RTM now. The crack has just been made available, thanks to a product key from Lenovo. Microsoft could patch up the crack, but it's pretty unlikely. If you feel bad and you don't want to hurt Microsoft's feelings then you can wait until October 22 to get your copy.

Update on July 31st: It looks like Microsoft has just blocked the key that you can use for the OEM - according to Slash Gear. When you insert the Lenovo code, it will tell you that you are "attempting to use a pirated license and, presumably, not be allowed to validate their copy of the OS."

Samsung AppStore Accepting Developers on July 30 aka Today!

Later today, "Samsung will be launching the developer's backend of their Application Store."

The Samsung Seller Site (not up yet) is the next step in the Samsung efforts in streamlining the apps and content delivery to end users. The Samsung Mobile Innovator has been up for more than half an year supporting developer's efforts. Samsung even launched a beta version of their Application Store in English and German earlier this year. The fully-fledged Samsung App store however will start spawning in regional versions across Europe in Q3 this year.

So it looks like the Samsung App Store will be hitting Europe in Q3 of this year, since it's not that far away. It'll probably be a slow start for Samsung, just like most App Stores are. But, in the end, let's hope that Samsung gets it right because they'll need a better App Store than Nokia's Ovi Store. However, that shouldn't be too hard to beat...

BlackBerry 9700 Specs Leak Out

Although we don't have an official or even an unofficial picture yet, the specs for the upcoming BlackBerry 9700 has just been leaked out. The 9700 is expected to have: quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE / UMTS/HSDPA support, a 480 x 360 resolution display, WiFi a/b/g, a QWERTY keypad, a 3.2MP AF camera, and Bluetooth. In addition to all of that news, it will run on the new BlackBerry 5.0 OS.

Windows Mobile To Really Get a Name Change to Windows Phone

Apparently, Windows Mobile will really be changing its name to Windows Phone. It may sound like a phony story, but on Friday we should be expecting a video about it. That's something to get excited for. Microsoft is going to make this change so that it will be more in-tune with their desktop operating system and to try to keep their consumers less confused. I'll talk more about this on Friday, if it really gets confirmed.

Nokia N97 Mini Pictured, Barely Smaller Than the N97

Back in June, we heard word about a Nokia N97 "Mini" launching on Vodafone later this year. Today, arised what could be the first real photo of the Nokia N97 Mini. Basically, it's a smaller N97 and the keyboard is slightly altered since the d-pad is missing. It could be real, but it's just a rumour right now - it looks real though. However, it could be overpriced and underpowered similar to the Nokia N97.

HP Launching Upgraded Netbooks and Intel ULV-Packed Notebooks This Year

Yes, Asus and Acer have given up for the rest of the year, but what do you think HP is up to? Well, it looks like HP is going to start working on a new 11.6-inch netbook / notebook next month; they're also expected to upgrade one of their fellow 10.1-inch netbooks starting in Summer. The 11.6-inch model is going to be worked on by Quanta and will be sporting Intel's ULV platform. Inventec, on the other hand, is said to be working on HP's 10.1-inch netbook, which will, of course, use either the Intel Atom N270 or N280 CPU.

In August, HP will also launch new notebooks in the 13.3-inch and 14-inch category. I'm not sure if these will be utlizing Intel's ULV platform, but we'll know more about it as time passes.

BenQ Launching 23.6-Inch MK2442 TV Set on August 20th in Europe

What you see above is the BenQ MK2442 LCD TV. This TV has: a 23.6-inch Full HD display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, a 5ms response time, 24Hz technology, an HDMI 1.3 interface, and Senseye Human Vision technology, which will supposedly make the picture clearer. This will hit Europe on August 20th for an undisclosed price.

Sony Ericsson Logo Will Come in Multiple Colours Soon

It looks like in the future Sony Ericsson will be launching "a new marketing campaign" which will feature new logo colours. You probably already know all about the green logo that has been the standard for Sony Ericsson in the past. Their future phones could be branded with a different colour logo. I guess it's a good thing, some of us want change.

A new promotional campaign will also give consumers who buy certain SE phones the chance to win World Cup tickets in South Africa next year. But back to the important part - what do you think of the various colored logos? If you ask me it just dillutes the brand image and I like the green logo best anyways.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 "Aries" Hitting Verizon, Release Date Still Unknown

With the BlackBerry Curve 8520's launch just days away, it looks like we've just scooped up some juicy news. The Curve 8530 aka "Aries" looks like it will be hitting Verizon later this year. The Curve 8530 has: a 320 x 240 resolution display, a QWERTY keypad, a 2MP camera, OS 5.0, Bluetooth, WiFi b/g, and 1xRTT, EV-DO. We still don't know when and how much it will launch for, but it'll hit Verizon sometime in the future.
