According to the latest reports, version 2.0 of Moblin is now available for download if you have Moblin version 1. It will be a direct upgrade, but keep in mind that it's still missing key features that were spotted in Moblin version 2.1 that was shown off at IDF last week. Moblin 2.1 should be available in Q4 of this year.

At IDF yesterday, Dell showed off their Inspiron Mini 10v netbook running Moblin. The good news is that it will be available sometime today - so I'll update this post with a direct Dell link when I get the chance to. We're also hearing that it'll be available for $299 - for the base model of course - so if you're really interested then just wait for it. Keep in mind that this will be running the first Moblin and not Moblin v2.

According to Intel's Open Source Technology director, Imad Sousou, we could see a netbook running Moblin v2 as early as this month at IDF 2009. We don't know when this is going to be released, but if version 2 is on the way then why not just wait for it.

In related news, Asus will be launching an Eee PC with Moblin next month (October).

The rumour proved to be true, Asus have just confirmed that their Eee Keyboard PC will be available next month (October) in North America and Europe. The price hasn't been mentioned yet, but we've heard it'll be in the $400 to $500 price range. In case you're interested - because you should be - the Asus Eee Keyboard PC has: a 5-inch touchscreen display, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 16GB / 32GB SSD, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth support, HDMI output, and wireless UWB HDMI. The OS hasn't been completely confirmed, so we could see Windows 7 as well an Moblin on here.

Foxconn has reportedly just mentioned that they are working on "less than five" ARM-based mini-notebooks aka smartbooks. These smartbooks are expected to run some kind of Linux distro - possibly Moblin Linux - and will hit telecoms in China for somewhere between $100 and $200. According to the reports, Foxconn is also testing out Android "as a possibility" but they didn't mention anything about using Google's Chrome OS. The display is said to be somewhere between 7 to 10 inches.

In China, this Samsung ND10 netbook was just spotted. It's basically the NC10 netbook without an OS and $50 cheaper. That means it has: a 10.2-inch display, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, and a standard battery long enough to last 6 hours and 34 minutes - according to a Laptop Mag review. To me and Slash Gear, this netbook is just screaming for Moblin, Android or the Google Chrome OS. Too bad it won't be hitting US or Europe - it's exclusive to China.

According to the latest rumour, Asus is working on shipping their first Eee PC running the Moblin OS this October. Afterwards, Asus is looking to make the Moblin Linux OS an option for all of their notebooks - if the launch goes smoothly. What's also interesting is that Asus is reportedly working "closely together" with Google to launch the Chrome OS on one of their netbooks in the "not-too-distant future." I'm excited!

Intel and Google really have been quite the team lately. Yesterday we heard that Intel is working with Google on the new Google Chrome OS and today we are hearing that they're joining forces to push out Android-based MIDs. Even though Intel has it's own OS - Moblin - to work on, "according to Taiwanese MID manufacturers it's all part of the chip company's plan to be 'the hardware platform of choice'."

Apparently though, these reported MIDs won't be available until 2010 because Intel plans to push out their Moorestown platform before these are available. Keep in mind that the above photo is not an Intel / Google MID - it's an MID running on Nvidia Tegra.

If you didn't read the title yet, prepare to be disappointed. The Asus Eee Keyboard PC that was supposed to be available by the end of this month is now delayed until August. Not much is known about the launch. We still don't know which model will be available at launch - Windows XP or Moblin or both? And we still don't know the exact price tag that will be pegged on this well-thought out designed keyboard PC. But, we  are hearing that it could be around $400 USD. We'll see what happens when August comes around.

This could be a lengthy post, but I'll try to shorten it as much as I can. Sit tight!

First up is the Asus Eee PC T91. If you remember, the T91 has: an 8.9-inch resistive touchscreen display, an Intel Atom 1.33GHz Z520 CPU, up to 2GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD, and will run on Windows XP Home. This baby is going to start shipping today! Keep an eye out for it.

Next up, it's the Asus Eee PC 1101HA netbook. It has: an 11.6-inch display, an Intel Atom 1.33GHz Z520 CPU, Intel's GMA graphics, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD. It will start shipping in Europe by the end of the month for €399 ($520 USD). It will be bundled with Windows XP and will be available in black or white. The 1101HGo is the 3G capable model of the 1101HA, but there has been no word on when it will be available.

Last, but not least, it's the Asus Eee Keyboard PC. This time, it's rocking Moblin - Intel's Linux-based OS - instead of the traditional Windows XP that we've seen time and time again. The specs stay the same: an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 32 / 64GB of SSD storage, and possibly Wireless HDMI. The Keyboard PC is expected to launch by the end of the month for around $400 USD. There has been no word if the Moblin OS will be an option at launch. Foxconn's latest netbook, the SZ901, has just been demoed running the Linux-based Moblin (v2) OS. The netbook has fairly regular specs, including: a 10.1-inch display, the 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, VGA output, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, and 3G. It loaded pretty fast, but not as fast as I was expecting it to. Just check out the video below, thanks to Engadget.

Intel has just released Moblin 2.0, which is intended for netbooks. "It's designed to take advantage of the smaller screens, and in turn allow users to have longer battery life, shorter startups [I'm hoping for 2 seconds], and quick access to media and social networks." The video below is a short 1:40 clip, that looks pretty damn good. I just might have to scoop up a netbook with Moblin pre-loaded. Android or Moblin? I could always dual-boot them, right?

Yes, it is the OS that counts, right Apple fanboys? Well maybe a 2-second boot-up will convince you to leave Mac OS X or Windows for Linux. Since it's targeted for netbooks, it would be better if I mentioned to ditch Windows XP for Linux. Intel "promises" that they will get the boot-up time of their Moblin Linux OS for netbooks down to just 2 seconds. Now this would be amazing. This brings up another question. Would Intel be able to implement this into the Android OS for netbooks? Android is Linux-based, so could it be possible? It would definitely pull some attraction, at least that's what I think.
