Intel Prepping "Oak Trail" CPUs, Possibly To Replace Z-Series Atoms

We're all familiar with Intel's "Pine Trail" set of N-Series Atoms, but it looks like Intel has another family of Atom chips making their debut this year. They'll reportedly be dubbed the "Oak Trail" and they're looking to replace the current Z-Series of Atom CPUs. These chips are cheaper and less powerful than the N-Series chips that's why you'll see them in smaller devices - maybe including netbooks. Think something like MID's or possibly even tablets. We'll see if this plays out to be real, but those Z-Atom chips really do need an upgrade soon.

General Mobile Touch Stone Is Almost Like An HD2 With Android

General Mobile is taking another stab at Android and smartphones with their latest entry, dubbed the Touch Stone. I'm kind of digging the look, but I don't know easy those buttons will be to use. Anyways, this handset is expected to run Android 2.0 and could feature other goodies like a 5MP camera, a PXA935 CPU, and a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display. The specs sound HD2-like if I'm not confused here so this is kind of like an HD2 with Android - although it's not HTC. Apparently, this handset will launch before this year ends.

It looks like Qualcomm's CEO, Paul Jacobs, has just mentioned something pretty sweet for the future of Nokia. Apparently, a Symbian-powered device (hopefully Symbian^3) by Nokia will be using a Snapdragon CPU. Hopefully it's one of the 1GHz CPU models since it's expected to ship later this year. Again, we'll have to wait and see.

This tweet coming from the official Lenovo account has just confirmed that they're set to unveil a brand new ThinkPad "Mobile Workstation" on Tuesday of next week - February 23. It should have something to do with the ThinkPad X201 Series we've been hearing a lot about lately. We don't know what turning it up to 11 means but that could be hinting at the fact that they'll be using the powerful new Intel Core i7 CPUs. This is all just speculation but we'll find out all of the goods in just 6 days.

6-Inch Bookeen Orizon Has Multitouch, Will Do It Slowly

The e-book reader you see above probably won't find its way into a bunch of customers but it's the Bookeen Orizon. It's pretty impressive that they packed multitouch on this e-book reader but that's just about where the fun ends. The refresh rates are still slow on these e-ink displays and I don't imagine anyone wanting a 6-inch e-ink display to read on because it's just a bit too small. Anyways, it's packing a 6-inch display with a 600 x 800 resolution, WiFi / Bluetooth support, 1GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and an accelerometer. This is scheduled to launch this May for around $250 USD.

A new device from China has just found it's way online. This PMP you see above is the Window G85HD. We don't know if this PMP is now available and we also don't know the price so you'll have to look around the black market or something. There's a video for you below if you're really interested.

Rogers Launching the Storm 2 Or Is This Ad a Mistake?

The ad you see above was just spotted in the March issue of a Canadian Business magazine. If you read it, it clearly says that you can "see all there is to see with BlackBerry Storm smartphones from Rogers and other major retailers." That's weird since Rogers doesn't carry the BlackBerry Storm 2 (pictured above). The only phone that carries the Storm 2 in Canada is Telus. Could this be a mistake or could Rogers be planning to launch the Storm 2 in the future?

After Rogers launched the BlackBerry Bold 9700 for $299.99 back in November they've dropped the price a number of times. Today marks another drop and it's now just $149.99 on a 3-year contract with Rogers. That's looking like an extremely juicy price, especially when they're about to launch their new Webkit browser. Check it out on Rogers here.

Android "Could" Get Firefox Mobile This Year
Mozilla's VP has just mentioned that Firefox Mobile could be available on Android by the end of this year. Of course, that's a pretty vague statement since there are still 10 months left in the year. Let's hope they narrow that time frame down to a quarter or something - like Q3?

It looks like Vodafone will be launching a new phone in the next couple of months, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini. This handset got shown off at MWC, so we know everything about it already. Hopefully they launch the Mini Pro as well because that adds the slide-out QWERTY keyboard on there too. Unfortunately the thing we don't know is exactly when the handset will be available, but it'll likely be free on a contract.
