Telus Releases the HTC Desire, Bell Releases the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant; War Of the Androids In Canada

Labels: , , , ,

Today two Android devices have hit the market in Canada and this is really big news. The first one is the 3.7-inch (SLCD-equipped) HTC Desire that is now available on Telus (here) for $79.99 on a 3-year contract. Other price points are: $349.99 on a 2-year contract, $399.99 on a 1-year contract, and $449.99 contract-free. The smartphone packs a 5MP AF camera, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS support, and Android 2.1 with the Sense UI.

The smartphone that will go head-to-head with this one is the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant which is now available on Bell (here). This smartphone is now available for $149.95 on a 3-year contract, $349.95 on a 2-year contract, $449.95 on a 1-year contract, and $499.95 contract-free. The Vibrant packs a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5MP AF camera with 720p HD video recording, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS support, and Android 2.1 with the Touchwiz UI. Which one will you get?

Update: You might want to get your Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant at Best Buy. Mobile Syrup has just pointed out that if you get it at Best Buy it's available for only $99.99 on a 3-year contract and they're going to throw in a $75 gift card as well. Talk about a sweet deal. That price for this smartphone it should sell more than the iPhone 4 - but it won't because it's not made by Apple. I could go on and on...

Don't forget that you can wait for the Samsung Captivate which should be hitting Rogers in the near future.
