Rogers Dummy Units Pop Up Across the Nation; Dell Streak, BlackBerry Bold 9780, and Samsung Galaxy S Captivate

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A few new Rogers dummy units are starting to get shipped to stores and the first one is above. Pictured beside an iPhone 4 in the above photo is a dummy unit of the Dell Streak, which will be hitting Rogers in Canada in early November. This one features a 5-inch touchscreen display, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 5MP AF camera with a dual-LED flash, a VGA front-facing camera, 512MB of ROM / SDRAM, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS support, a 1,530mAh battery, and Android 1.6 that should be getting an upgrade to 2.1 soon after.

What you see directly above is the dummy unit of the BlackBerry Bold 9780, which is just a slight upgrade over the Bold 9700. This one just got official yesterday and all that you need to know it that is has OS 6.0 pre-installed which comes with the new and improved WebKit browser. It should be available sometime in November.

It took them long enough. Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is finally starting to arrive in stores after a couple of months of waiting. Not much left to tell you here, but they're probably already sold out at this point - I'm kidding, but it'll be rare to find one.

Rogers "Officially" Set To Release the Samsung Captivate On October 25th

Labels: , , , , , , ,

After months of delays Rogers has officially announced that they'll be launching the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate on October 25th. Apparently, the delay was because of a shortage of Super AMOLED displays and "limited inventory." Either way, it's good to see that the wait will really will over in four days. Rogers has delayed this smartphone countless times at this point, but hopefully the 25th will really be the day. It'll be available for $149.99 on a 2-year contract and $549.99 contract-free.

Rogers Changes the Pre-Order Details On the Samsung Captivate

Labels: , , , , , , ,

So much for it launching this week because it probably won't anymore. On Rogers' own site, the pre-order details are now set to expire on October 24th for the Samsung Captivate - it used to be October 20th. There's not much left to tell you really, but I am very tired of waiting for this. I'm thinking of just picking this one up contract-free then trading it for a Desire Z at this point.

Labels: , , , , , , ,

God, finally! Rogers has just announced that they're going to be launching the Samsung Captivate sometime next week. Finally, gosh, I've been waiting for this smartphone forever. $149.99 on a 3-year contract and $549.99 contract-free - in case you forgot. Rogers has updated their RedBoard post (here).

Update: My friends at The Cellular Guru has just mentioned that this smartphone could actually launch as early as October 18th!

A quick search on their website reveals that the Samsung Captivate will be available for $149.99 on a 3-year contract (we already know that) and it will also cost you $549.99 contract-free. However, this hasn't been announced by Rogers themselves, but it's pretty certain now.

Rogers About To Take Pre-Orders For the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, Launching On October 16th Or 21st?

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

I'm waiting patiently for the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate to hit Rogers and it looks like the launch is coming up. The carrier has finally put up the pre-order page for the smartphone (here) and it'll be available for $149.99 on a 3-year contract - Bluetooth headset for free too! I'll be getting this one contract-free, unfortunately that price tag is still unknown.

By the way, if you pre-order this smartphone you'll be entered into a draw to win a "Samsung price pack" which contains a 55-inch C9000 LED HDTV, a Home Theatre package, and a DSLR camera. This deal lasts until October 16th so that could be the launch date as well.

Update: The pre-order page is no longer available, but it should be back up in the next day or two - according to Rogers.

Update: Another Mobile Syrup post has just mentioned that another possible launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate will be on October 21st. This is because the "Contest Period" will start on September 21st just after midnight and ends right before midnight on October 21st. This is sad news since we'll have to be waiting a whole month more for this smartphone. Cue the sighs.

Rogers About To Take Pre-Orders For the Samsung Captivate

Labels: , , , , , , ,

It's not exactly the biggest news around, but Rogers' Samsung Captivate should be available for you to pre-order soon. An e-mail has been going around - sent from Rogers - has confirmed this information so you should look out for it in your inbox. The Captivate will be the second Galaxy S variant in Canada following the launch of the Bell Galaxy S Vibrant. The Captivate features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS support, a 5MP AF camera with 720p HD video recording, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, and Android 2.1 underneath the Touchwiz UI.

Rogers Announces That They're Getting the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate In "the Coming Weeks"

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Rogers has just announced that they're going to be launching their Galaxy S variant and they chose the Samsung Captivate. Of course the specs are the exact same as the Galaxy S Vibrant so the only way you'll be able to differentiate the two is by the way it looks. It'll feature a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5MP AF camera with 720p HD video recording capabilities, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, and Android 2.1 with the Touchwiz UI. Now the only thing I'm wondering is if Telus will be getting their own Galaxy S - even though they are getting the HTC Desire.

Rogers To Get the Samsung Galaxy S This September? Will It Be the Captivate?

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Here's some good news for the Canadians out there (including me). There's a rumour going around that in September of this year Rogers will be getting a Samsung Galaxy S variant. The rumour is that it will be the Samsung Captivate that is already available on AT&T network. Of course, this isn't far fetched because AT&T's network uses the same bands as Rogers in Canada. It's unconfirmed right now, so we'll have to wait around for Rogers or Samsung to speak out.

Samsung Captivate Hits One Lucky Owner A Bit Early

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Originally set to launch on July 18th, it seems like at least one lucky person already got their AT&T Samsung Captivate. This handset is now being pictured in the wild and that's really it to be honest. Right now the person who got their lucky Captivate hasn't snapped a video of it doing anything. Of course, this smartphone will be available starting on Sunday, July 18th.

AT&T has just confirmed and announced that they'll be releasing their Galaxy S variant - the Samsung Captivate - for $199.99 on July 18th. This smartphone packs a pretty hefty spec sheet that you should have already memorized by now. This smartphone packs 16GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot so that's some pretty good news for you. Now there's just one question: this or the iPhone 4?

Samsung (T959) Galaxy S To Hit T-Mobile As the Vibrant -- Engadget Goes Hands-On With AT&T's Model

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

We already know that AT&T will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S (T959), but we've known it to be called the Captivate. We also know that T-Mobile will be launching the handset as well and they'll reportedly be calling it the Vibrant. We already know the complete spec sheet so there's really not much to reiterate for you.

Update: According to Engadget, they've just got their hands on the AT&T-bound Samsung Captivate but the model is actually a couple of months old so the software wasn't official. The hardware is though and they mentioned that the Super AMOLED display is one of the best that you'll set your eyes on.

AT&T Announces Their Galaxy S As the Samsung Captivate, Launching In a Few Months

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Earlier this month we heard that the Samsung Galaxy S would be hitting AT&T with a slight redesign along with a rename to the Samsung Captivate. This smartphone will be the Galaxy S inside a different body and will feature a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz CPU, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth 3.0 support, HSPA connectivity, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, and Android 2.1 along with the TouchWiz 3.0 UI. Hopefully, AT&T doesn't cripple the handset itself by only allowing signed apps. Anyways, this smartphone will be hitting the carrier in a few months.

Samsung i897 (Galaxy S Variant) To Become the Captivate and a597 Eternity II Surface, Both Headed to AT&T

Labels: , , , , , , ,

I've already covered the AT&T-bound HTC Aria (here), but it looks like some other phones have been named as well. The Samsung i897, which is supposed to be a variant of the Galaxy S, will supposedly be named the Captivate, while the Samsung a597 will become the Eternity II. Let's see if these both become a reality, the i897 Captivate is - I think - the more important one.
