Archos Announce 7 and 8-Inch Home Tablets, Specs Underwhelming -- With Video!

Labels: , , ,

Archos has just announced their new 7 and 8-inch Home Tablets and, to be honest, I expected more than this. The obvious difference between the two is that the 7 has a 7-inch touchscreen display and the 8 has an 8-inch touchscreen display. Of course, another big difference is the look of it. The Archos 7 has a look similar to the Archos 5 while the Archos 8 has a huge bezel and would be better off being used as a picture frame.

Anyways, they're both sporting a 600MHz ARM 9 CPU along with Android as the OS. The Archos 7 sports a 12mm thin body and weighs 350g. The Archos 7 sports 2GB of internal storage, WiFi support, and a battery that should last 7 hours of video / 44 hours of audio. The Archos 8 should be packing a similar spec sheet (also 12mm thin) but should be used for your picture slideshows instead. The Archos 7 should be available in Europe starting this April and the Archos 8 will make its debut in May. The pricing is set to be €149 ($209 USD) for each of them. The 8GB model (for both of them) is expected to launch for €179 ($244 USD).

Update: According to Slash Gear, the Archos 7 is actually quite responsive. Check out the video below.
