New Layout and New Blog Soon, Warcraft Movie Still in the Making, Giant Wiimote [Cake], Halo Wars Demo, New Consoles in 2012?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

After my last exam on Monday, January 26, i will be starting my new blog. The new blog is expected to take the layout that i have on this current blog. Meanwhile, this blog's layout will change. I'm foreshadowing this blog to have a layout consisting of 3 columns. I'm also going for a more techy look, hopefully i will be able to fulfill that. I look forward to my new blog and what i will be writing about. I hope that some of my readers will go and check it out too.

We have not heard anything about the World of Wacraft movie in months. But finally, Blizzard community manager, Nethaera, steps up to the plate and mentions that it is still in production. Although, he did not give any more information about the movie, it will still be interesting to check out this movie. I'll probably watch it with my girlfriend, even though she won't have a clue as to what's going on. She also won't be reading this anytime soon, so it's pretty safe that i am writing this here. I can't wait to see how high-resolution it will be. Maybe if this WoW movie is a success, we might even see a Starcraft movie, but that's just my wishful thinking. I can't wait until this is released, which will probably be in 2010 - 2011. I hope it will be worth the wait.

Yes, that is a giant Wiimote that you see on your left side. This would cause massive amounts of injury to another child. Thankfully, it is just an edible chocolate cake. This custom cake [$360] was made for a 9-year-old boy's birthday. "The chocolate cake with mousse filling was coated with (edible) rolled fondant, depicting the Wiimote's buttons in perfect detail-including even a properly shaped expansion port in the bottom." But, i disagree just a tiny bit, since the 'A' button is not clear like the controller's is. This is still a sweet [tasting] cake. A near-perfect duplicate. I now want a PS3 cake for my 19th birthday. Very childish, i know.

The upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive, Halo Wars, will be playable on February 5th. For now, only in a single-player demo. The release date will be as follows: "Feb. 26 in Asia, Feb. 27 is Europe and March 3 in the Americas." Canada may not be on the list, but its release date, up here, will also be on the 3rd of March. Personally, i am not a fan of RTS's (Real Time Strategy's) on consoles because they are better and much easier to play on computers / laptops. It's all about Starcraft 2 for me because i don't even have an Xbox 360.

Yves Guillemot of Ubisoft has just said that they are preparing for the new console generation, which they expect to hit consumers in between the years of 2011 and 2012. Ubisoft are looking to "take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands so we have now enough to help us to grow the company." I'm pretty sure what he said does not make complete sense, since his English is not that great, but i'm sure you get what he means. It's either that or some typos from IGN, but i trust IGN enough. Anyways, look out for the Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Wii 2 because it may be in the near future.

G4TV's Best of CES, Halo Wars RROD at CES

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

So, i watched about 30 minutes of G4tv's live stream of their views of the best products at CES. I was originally going to blog about it live, but i really just felt like listening for a change. I also already missed 15 minutes of it, so there wasn't really a point. It was interesting to see the hosts in-sights on all different kinds of products and, in the end, i learned a lot more. Since, i didn't write down any notes while i was watching the live stream, i'm just going to pull some information from g4tv's official site. Some of their winners in the Mainstream Technology were: the Sony Walkman X Series, the Neo FreeRunner Android Phone and the Nextar GPS. In the Media Technology the winners were: the SlingPlayer Mobile / DISH Network Sling ViP 922, the Linksys Wireless Home Audio System and the LG LHX 55" Slim Wireless HDTV. In the last category, the Maximum Technology category, the winners were: the Boxee Software, the Checkolite Lamp Speakers and the Pogoplug. I'll just do a brief summary about each product quickly, since G4tv is still currently uploading the rest of the press conferences that took place today.

Mainstream Technology
First off, the Sony Walkman X Series (see left side) is Sony's new OLED 3 inch touchscreen mp3 and video player that also has built-in Wi-Fi. It includes "Sony's 'Digital Noise Cancelling', 'Clear Audio Technology' and 'S-master Digital Amplifier Technology.'" This will be available in both 16 and 32GB. The Neo FreeRunner Android Phone is an open source that you can completely customize on your own, if you know how to. This phone will also have Wi-Fi with a 400MHz processor. The Nextar GPS rounds out G4's top 3 in this category. This GPS has internet connectivity and can tell you certain movie times, the gas prices and a bunch of other good stuff. In real-time.
Media Techonlogy
First in this category is the SlingPlayer Mobile / DISH Network Sling ViP 922. I, myself, knew nothing about this until i watched the live stream. This Slingbox technology will connect to your Blackberry and your iPhone, if you have one. "You can access your DVR from anywhere in the world." Did i also mention that you will be able to watch your stuff in HD and that this box has memory of 1TB (1,024GB)? Up next is the Linksys Wireless Home Audio System. This brand, Linksys, is the same brand that dominates the router category. They're deciding to broaden their market by introducing this wireless and digital music center. My favourite in this category, is the LG LHX 55" Slim Wireless HDTV (pictured). I've blogged about this TV before. It is LED-backlit and features the new wireless HD technology. "This internet-ready device can deliver content from Youtube and other video sharing sites as well as Netflix and CinemaNow." Need i say more?
Maximum Technology
Boxee Software. You can use Boxee on anything, whether you decide to use a laptop or your HDTV set. This software will let you "enjoy your movies, TV shows, music and photos, as well as streaming content from websites like Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Comedy Central, Last.fm, and flickr. The Firefox of media players. With the 'social networking' twist." That is a lot of stuff packed in this new software and it sounds great in my book. The Checkolite Lamp Speakers are unique, to say the least. This "offers whole-house music and lighting control functionality for retrofit applications - no new wires required." All wireless. Impressive. "The software will give the user the ability to control the light and sound of each device as well as set up room themes that can be triggered by the in wall touchpad or set up on a schedule." This will be compatible with iTunes or Rhapsody. Last on the list, is Pogoplug. This connects to a router and to any USB drive. "Users can access media and files from any locally networked computer." I don't really understand what the Pogoplug is used for, but i think it's supposed to make networking easier, or something. I have no clue.
The Host's Favourties
As i mentioned earlier, my favourite was the LG LHX 55" Slim Wireless HDTV. But, i'm no expert. So, let's see what the hosts' favourite products were at this year's CES. Natali Del Conte chose the Boxee Software as her favourite product at CES and i don't blame her, it sounds like a great software. I'd love to watch Hulu, but i can't since i'm not in the United States. Kevin Pereira and Chris Hardwick's favourite product was the SlingPlayer Mobile / DISH Network Sling ViP 922 (pictured). I think they both have iPhone's, so it would, of course, be useful to them. I don't have a Blackberry or an iPhone, so there'd be no point for me to get it.

At Microsoft's press conference one of the speakers mentioned that Halo Wars was going to be released on February 28. This is, apparently, a mistake and is still going to be released on, the scheduled, March 3. All that aside, Microsoft wanted to show off their Real-Time Strategy game, Halo Wars, at this year's CES. They made it a memory all right. Apparently, the Xbox 360 showcasing Halo Wars at CES came down with the RROD (Red Ring of Death) virus. Microsoft commented and said that this was, most likely, due to an overheating problem, since they [the Xbox's] were left on for a significant amount of time. Still, epic.

Metacritic Terrorism

Labels: , , , , ,

Hilarious news that i just found out. Reading my Google Reader, i just saw one of the funniest things. Apparently, this 'war' started on metacritic.com, regarding Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gamers. The ongoing war is that 360 fans have been down-ranking Playstation 3 games and Playstation 3 fans have been doing the same towards the Xbox 360's games. On the site, users can view their opinion on each game, review it themselves and they can also rate it out of 10. Bad news for the regular non-fanboy readers, who actually view the opinion of other people. When Killzone 2, a Playstation 3 exclusive title, was able to be reviewed by the fans just moments ago, the 360 fans downranked the game. Right now, it is at a 6.3 / 10. In revenge, the Playstation 3 fans have striked back. Halo Wars, which is an Xbox 360 exclusive, currently has a very, very low rank. A mere 0.8 /10. While i was reading this, i was laughing. But, when i pushed all of the jokes aside, i figured that this is completely immature. It's actually quite sad that this is happening because people go on metacritic.com for a real review because some people actually base buying a game on another person's view of the game. I remember, back in my gamespot.com days, i used to look at a professional and user review / ranking of the game. If people continue doing this, metacritic.com may actually lose readers or views of their site, as a whole. Metacritic probably has to take some serious action soon, maybe [first] deleting all of the 0 / 10 reviews on Halo Wars and other games that have this similar problem. Sucks for Halo Wars though.

Halo Wars, MMO News on Blizzard!!

Labels: , , ,

I refreshed my Google Reader, as usual, and found more release dates on Xbox 360's Halo Wars. So, here's an exact quote from techtree.com. "Microsoft has provided 1UP with the release date, wherein Asian countries will get to see Halo Wars on February 26, while gamers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will get their hands on the game on February 27. North Americans might be a tad miffed since their release date is pushed ahead to March 3." So, yup, looks like everyone overseas is getting the game before us, North Americans.

Big rumour!! Blizzard and Activision may be announcing their new MMO tomorrow!!! "Fanboy's and naysayers alike suspect it will be a new sandbox style MMO or set in the Starcraft universe." I don't really know exactly what a 'new sanbox style mmo' is supposed to mean, but yup. A new MMO in the Starcraft universe sounds good to me though, so it's all good. Definitely looking forward to more news about this, hopefully tomorrow.

The Office, Gaming Helmet, Halo Wars, Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 Info

Labels: , , , , ,

So, i finished my Religion review and i never got to take my nap. But i will after Nikki's, my girlfriend, laptop dies. It'll die soon, and in the mean time i will do a quick little blog to pass some time.

The best show on TV right now (personally), The Office, is being nominated for 2 WGA Award's. If they win, it'll be really big and pretty 'tight.' [That's what she said.] Me and Nikki went on a 'The Office' marathon about a month ago because she was trying to catch up with the series. We watched 17 episodes in a day at one point, it was pretty insane. Yup, shared a lot of laughs, but anyways, moving onto the gaming helmet, seen on the left side.
TN Games is creating a helmet where you can feel when you're getting shot at, in game. There is already the matching FPS Vest, which has the same function. Kind of weird, i think, that these hardcore players really want to experience what their character is experiencing in, let's say, Call of Duty. Ever heard of paintball? But, i guess, being a gamer like me, you wouldn't want to leave the house anyway. It's interesting that you can even feel bullets whizzing if they're closer enough to your head. This HTX helmet is scheduled for a 2009 release.
Halo Wars is on it's way folks. The release date was recently announced and it will be on March 3, 2009. This real-time strategy game is coming out exclusively on the Xbox 360 and has an $80 collector's edition. The author of this article, Brian Leahy, mentions that if the Starcraft 2 beta starts up before then, he'll be playing that exclusively. Lucky guy. I can't wait for the SC2 release, i'll talk about that at a later time, too sleepy to talk about it right now.
Almost forgot to mention that one of my favourite sites, lifehack.com talks about the Firefox 3.1 Beta 2. Some main features are that it is faster than the previous beta and that they've introduced the new private browsing mode, better known as 'porn mode.' Going for another blog before i go to sleep, if Nikki stays up, that is.
