Yesterday, Palm came clean and announced the WebOS 2.0 based Pre 2 and we know that it's headed to France this Friday and to North America in the near future. In the US, it'll be hitting Verizon so it'll have CDMA connectivity. Yes, that has been spotted at the FCC. The other model is the GSM variant which is likely headed to Canada (presumably to Bell, but it's unconfirmed). Yes, that has also been spotted. Check out the two FCC filings here and here. Look out for the launch in the next couple of weeks.

So much for it launching this week because it probably won't anymore. On Rogers' own site, the pre-order details are now set to expire on October 24th for the Samsung Captivate - it used to be October 20th. There's not much left to tell you really, but I am very tired of waiting for this. I'm thinking of just picking this one up contract-free then trading it for a Desire Z at this point.

We heard earlier today that Verizon would be getting the Samsung Continuum and the LG Vortex on October 29th and it looks like they'll have four more handsets in the pipe two weeks after that. On November 11th, the carrier will be releasing the Palm Pre 2, Motorola DROID Pro, DROID 2 Global, and the Motorola (WX445) Citrus. The Pre 2 is, of course, running on WebOS 2.0 (check out Engadget's review if you want), while the other three handsets will be running on Google's Android OS. Verizon is definitely a carrier to be reckoned with since they have all of these smartphones on the way.
Update: According to Phandroid, November 11th will actually be a very big day for the carrier. In addition to the four phones they'll be launching we now know that the Galaxy Tab will be hitting the carrier on November 11th as well. That's not all though. Apparently, you can also expect the LG enV Touch Pro, the LG Vortex, and the Samsung Continuum on the 11th too. Yes, the Vortex and the Continuum were supposed to actually launch on October 29th but it looks like that has been pushed back. So that's eight devices in one day, can you handle it?

Two more handsets are headed to Verizon on October 29th and they're both Android-based. The first one is above and it's the Samsung Continuum; the other handset is the LG Vortex which is said to be the CDMA variant of the Optimus One. We'll talk a bit about the Continuum first. This handset is well-known for its two displays on the front, a 3.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display and a smaller OLED secondary display on the bottom, dubbed the "Ticker". Specs including a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 5MP camera, and Android 2.1 with the Touchwiz UI.
The Vortex, on the other hand, caters to the mid-end crowd. This one sports a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, a 600MHz CPU, a 3.2MP AF camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, Bing search engine, and WiFi / Bluetooth support. Thankfully, this one's running Android 2.2.

Companies involved in the mix is Acer, Asus, HTC, Motorola, and Samsung (with a new Galaxy Tab) who should all be testing their tablets before the end of the year. DigiTimes actually says that they'll be officially unveiling these tablets in January 2010 at CES, but they do mean CES 2011.
They're also quick to point out that Android 4.0 (possibly codenamed Ice Cream) should also be available in H2 2011 so that's also something to look forward to as Google tries to inch closer and closer to Apple's iOS.

Well, this just about came out of nowhere. Palm has officially announced the Pre 2. This smartphone packs a 3.1-inch HVGA multitouch display, WiFi b/g / Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support, 16GB of internal storage, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a slide-up QWERTY keybaord, a 5MP camera with an LED flash, and, yes, WebOS 2.0! Of course, as the rumours suggest you'll likely find a 1GHz CPU inside of this but that's unconfirmed right now. Yes, the Pre 2 looks very similar to the Pre's of the past so nothing should surprise you here. There's Flash 10.1 Beta support on this handset as well so that's definitely good news.
This smartphone will be available in France first, via SFR, on Friday and it'll be available in the US in the coming months through Verizon. Canada will be getting it as well (in the coming months), but the carrier is still unknown right now - Bell launched the original Pre so it could be them again. Check out the Pre 2 portal here.

Thanks to the image above, taken of a Cellebrite, it might be confirming that RIM's BlackBerry Storm 3 (9570) actually isn't dead. This was spotted in Verizon's systems so it should be heading there just like we've heard on countless occasions. No other details are known right now so we'll have to keep waiting.
