Acer is hoping to be one of the top 5 smartphones vendors by 2012, and to do that they are aiming for the stars. Their goal for next year is to ship 2.5 million smartphones. This may be achieved if they launch more smartphones like the Acer F1. Hopefully, this works out for them because the Acer F1 was worthy enough to make my top 10 phone list of 2009.

And the price roller coaster continues for the LG EnV Touch aka Voyager 2. It launched back in June for $149 USD, dropped to $99 USD a couple of days later, went back up to $149 USD in July and now it's back to $99 USD on a 2-year contract yet again. No one knows if this price is here to stay, so if you're interested then get one on Verizon now - before it's too late.
Apparently, Phone Arena says that if you paid $149 USD for this handset, then you can call customer service to get those $50 back.

Just because Asus and Acer won't be launching as many netbooks as they should this year, doesn't mean they can't update their old models. Today, Acer has just updated its Aspire One D250 netbook. They have just upgraded the display to a 1,280 x 720 resolution. However, the specs stay the same - Atom N270 / N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, and a 6-cell battery. In Norway, you can now pre-order this new model (here), it will be launched in two days (July 30).

Personally, I like the silver DualShock 3 better, but some people out there are tired of the bland colours. Here's a picture of the "Deep Red" and "Metallic Blue" DualShock 3 controllers. It was scheduled to hit the market in September, but it looks like it will be delayed until October. I'm sure you wouldn't mind waiting. Anyways, if the earlier rumours are true, this will be available for $54.99 USD when it launches. What about the PS3 Slim!?

HTC Mega ROM Headed to Developers, New TouchFLO2D UI

Remember the HTC Mega? Well, it looks like it could be available this Fall, since the ROM has just leaked and is on its way to XDA-Developers. This new version of HTC's TouchFLO2D seems like it has a bit of the Sense UI mixed in with it; so, this could be the start of HTC fuzing the two UI's together. Apparently, this new ROM works "flawlessly" with WinMo 6.5, so the HTC Mega could launch with it pre-installed. This would mean a Fall release for the "Mega".

Last week, I informed you that the LG GM730 would be getting a successor, the LG GM750. Well, it has popped up again today - thanks to the good ol' WiFi Alliance - this time with its codename "Layla". As of right now, nothing is known about the LG Layla, but since it's the direct successor to the LG GM730 it's a good guess that this will be running Windows Mobile.

Microsoft Says That Retail Store Leak is "Legit"
Microsoft has just confirmed that last week's "leak" of their retail stores are legit. But, they also mentioned that these are concept ideas and that "no final decisions have been made." So basically, anything could change at this point, but at least we know what Microsoft's store could consist of.

Acer and Asus Freezing New Netbook Launches Until Pine Tail-M Platform Launches, Focusing on ULV-Based Notebooks
According to DigiTimes, we can blame this all on Intel. Remember that long awaited netbook from Acer that's supposed to dual-boot Windows XP and Android? Well, it looks like it's going to be delayed since Intel has postponed their new Pine Tail-M platform until Q1 2010. It was rumoured to be hitting us in August, but because Intel's delaying their Atom N450 CPUs, both Acer and Asus are freezing the launch of new netbooks. Meanwhile, Asus' Android-based netbook isn't expected to hit shelves until as early as October and their T101H tablet netbook is going to launch after Microsoft launches Windows 7, which is scheduled to hit the market in late October.
As of right now, both companies look like they will be focusing on Intel ULV-based netbooks. They're also going to be working on selling their own set of nettops by cutting the prices down in the next few months.

Sprint Purchases Virgin Mobile For $483 Million

Yes, that's right. Sprint has just bought Virgin Mobile for $483 million. I don't really know what Sprint could do with Virgin Mobile, but it looks like they will be launching the low-end phones for Sprint, so nothing will change. Sprint also purchased Boost Mobile a while back, so Engadget suggests that Sprint will probably pair up both Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. Either way, it's an acquisition - even if it won't mean much.

According to DigiTimes, Samsung "plans to launch more than 10 touch-enables handsets in the Taiwan market in the second half of 2009." This is to try to beat out their rival, LG. Although Samsung is first in the global market - shipping 6.1 million touch-enabled handsets in the first quarter of this year - LG has 17% of the touchscreen market in Taiwan, while Samsung only has 12%. Some handsets that will be launched in the second half of this year are the Samsung S8000 Jet, Beat DJ M7600, Omnia II I8000, Galaxy I7500, and the S5600 Blade.

The LG BL40 was just handled by a Sina Corporation reporter. Lucky him. This phone looks good, but wasn't good enough to make my top 10 phone list. The 21:9 aspect ratio display is pretty awkward, but it still looks good, nonetheless.
