Toshiba K01 Passes the GCF, Launching Soon?

Labels: , , ,

The Toshiba K01 has just been passed through the Global Certification Forum. This is great news because it could mean that the launch is pretty soon. We saw this handset at MWC last week, but Toshiba never mentioned a release date or a possible price tag. Check it out here.

LG GW990 Caught On Video, Demoing Itself Beside the HTC HD2; GT540 and Mini GD880 Too!

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

We've seen a bit about the LG GW990 so far - and it could be the first "handset" running on Nokia and Intel's new MeeGo OS. It looks like it's just been caught demoing itself on video side-by-side with an already large HTC HD2. It makes the HD2 look puny to be honest, so I hope you have some large pockets. The good news here is that the GW990 looks pretty smooth as you can see with the multitouchiness - but they still have to iron out some of it. First the LG BL40 then the GW990 with the weird aspect ratios.

The video's quite long but they also show off the GT540 and the Mini GD880 as well.

iWonder Reveals Their Android Tablet, Should Launch For Around $100

Labels: , , , , ,

Last week at MWC, iWonder demoed a tablet rocking Android 1.6 but for some reason their logo was upside-down. Swing and a miss. Anyways, this Marvell-powered tablet sports a dark 10.1-inch touchscreen display, WiFi, and a couple of touch-sensitive buttons on the bezel. This tablet may not look all that impressive and that's because they plan to launch it for just over $100 USD which is pretty good. The tablet looked like it was just a prototype at MWC, but maybe we'll see more of it in the future.

HTC's Slower and Smaller HD2, Meet the HD Mini

Labels: , , , , , , ,

This is HTC's latest Windows Mobile 6.5.3 device and it's the HD mini. It's got a look similar to the HD2 and that's because it's supposed to. This handset won't be running Windows Phone 7 and likely won't be upgradeable either. Specs include: a 3.2-inch capacitive HVGA multi-touch display, a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz CPU, a 5MP AF camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 512MB of ROM, a microSD card slot, 384MB of RAM, WiFi / aGPS / Bluetooth support, 3G connectivity, and the Sense UI. The full spec sheet is below if you're interested and it'll be launching in April 2010 in the Europe and Asian markets. Vodafone will be one of the carriers in Europe.

Sagem Launches the Puma Phone, Perfect For Athletes

Labels: , , ,

Like we expected, the Puma Phone has just been announced and they teamed up with Sagem to manufacture the phone. It's got the solar panel on the back and reminds me of a Samsung Corby on the front. It's packing a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen QVGA display, a 3.2MP camera with an LED-flash, and GPS support. Of course, it's got a stopwatch, pedometer, and a GPS tracker just for you fit people out there. You can strap this one to your arm when you go out for a run. This handset will be available in Europe in April of this year - the price has yet to be mentioned.

LG GW990 On Track To Be World's First MeeGo Handset

Labels: , , , , , ,

Remember the LG GW990 from CES? Well, it was supposed to use Moblin as its OS, but now it's on track to be the world's first "smartphone" running on the newly announced MeeGo OS. This handset is expected to launch in the second half of 2010 and, to be honest, is more like an MID than a phone since it's so large. Maybe Nokia will snub them for this world's first title, but it doesn't really matter.

Huawei Unveils Bright-Looking U8300, U8100 / U8110; All Running Android

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Huawei has just announced three more Android handsets, the U8300 (above) and the U8100 / U8110 (below). The U8300 will be sporting three bright colours: yellow, green, and purple and will have social integration. The full spec sheet hasn't been mentioned yet but it doesn't look like it'll fold...

The U8100 is above and the U8110 is below. The spec sheets on both are virtually identical so it's just the look that is different. Both of these handsets are said to be sporting a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, a 3.2MP camera on the back, a front-facing 0.3MP camera, and WiFi / Bluetooth support. The colours aren't official yet, but they're definitely confirmed to be hurting my eyes. Anyways, both of these handsets are set to debut in Europe in Q2 of this year.

Huawei U8800 Is the World's First HSPA+ Android 2.1 Device

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like Huawei has just unveiled the world's first Android handset that has HSPA+ support so that's 14Mbps downloads - on paper at least. The full spec sheet for this U8800 unfortunately hasn't been mentioned but it's got a 3.8-inch touchscreen display with Android 2.1.

Lumigon Unveils Three Android 2.1 Phones, The T1, S1, and E1

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

A small brand, Lumigon, has just unveiled a couple of Android 2.1. They're looking quite good for a brand I've never heard of before. Their three Android phones are the T1, S1, and E1 which will all feature capacitive touchscreen display, aGPS support, an HDMI output, and Freescale i.MX51 CPUs. Of course, they've worked on their own custom UI over top of Android 2.1 which is "to give the user even more user-friendliness." The T1 will be on sale in ths next couple of months, the S1 will be available a month or two after that, and the E1 will launch later this year.

The full spec sheets haven't been mentioned but we do know that you'll be able to use these phones as universal remotes and you'll be able to use the company's own Bluetooth keyboard. Don't know how that'll work right now, but maybe they'll demo it at MWC.

Windows Phone 7 All Official, Brings Multitasking and Awesome UI

Labels: , , , ,

Microsoft made their Windows Mobile Phone 7 mobile OS all official this morning. they've dumped the Windows Mobile branding and thankfully brought on this new OS. Very, very new. It's nothing like Windows Mobile has ever been, but it's more Zune HD-like - which is great news. It's got Xbox integration and multitouch out-of-the box. The browser is still Internet Explorer but it's not looking as fast as mobile Safari at this point. There's really a ton of information to talk about in WinPho 7, but I'll leave that to another site. If you want to know a ton more on the OS itself then Engadget has a hands-on video and impressions here. It's looking amazing folks.

Samsung i8520 Beam (Halo) Android 2.1 "Superphone" Packs 3.7-Inch Super AMOLED, 8MP Camera and a Built-In Projector

Labels: , , , , , ,

It looks like Samsung is about to make another handset official and this one's the i8520 "Halo" Android phone that should be making its debut (officially) tomorrow. It's a phone with a built-in pico projector and a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display. Why couldn't they put this display on their Wave handset is what I'm wondering. Other specs are still quite amazing making this a true "superphone" if you want to. Expect an 8MP AF camera on-board with 720p video recording capbilities, quad-band GSM/EDGE / tri-band UMTS 900 / 1900 / 2100 connectivity, DivX / XviD video playback, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi / DLNA support, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android 2.1. This handset will be launched in Europe and Asia in Q3 of this year with a US launch later on (hopefully later in Q3).

The bad part about the built-in projector is that it makes the phone a fat 14.9mm thick. It looks like it'll also be rocking the new TouchWiz 3.0 UI - over top of Android 2.1. Expect Samsung to make it 100% official tomorrow.

Update: It looks like this handset will actually be called the Samsung Beam.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Pro Gets Official, Specs Too!

Labels: , , , , ,

I just talked about Sony Ericsson mentioning the XPERIA X10 Mini / Mini Pro and it looks like Akihabara News has just got their hands-on with the device. They've mentioned that the QWERTY keyboard is "fully capable" although it does seem a bit small. The spec sheet includes a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz CPU, a 2.5-inch QVGA touchscreen display, a microSD card (2GB card inside), a 5MP AF camera, 3G / Bluetooth / WiFi support, GPS support, and Android 1.6 with SE's own custom UI. Of course, there's a bunch of social integration on-board as well.

Notion Ink has decided to finalize the full spec sheet on their Adam (iPad-killer) tablet. The full spec sheet is below but the highlights are the 10-inch Pixel Qi touchscreen display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, a dual-core 1GHz CPU, Nvidia's Tegra 2 graphics, 1080p video out, an HDMI port, three USB 2.0 ports, a 3MP AF camera, an SD card slot, a 16-hour battery life, WiFi / 3G support, Flash support, and a full OS (Android, Ubuntu, Chromium). Samsung (S8500) Wave Now Official; First Bada Handset, Rocking AMOLED, Bluetooth 3.0, and Snapdragon

Labels: , , , , ,

Here's a great start for Samsung's Bada mobile OS. They've just announced the Samsung Wave which is the S8500. This handset will be their first handset running their Bada OS and it's got some juicy features. Juicy-ness includes a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with a 480 x 800 resolution, Bluetooth 3.0 support, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 5MP AF camera that will record 720p video, aGPS / WiFi n support, 2GB / 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, virtual 5.1 surround sound, and support for DivX / XviD videos.

Sadly, there's no multitouch on-board and I'm pretty sure that Bada does not have multitasking capabilities. This handset will be launching this April, but the price hasn't been mentioned yet.

Samsung Set To Announce Monte Slider E2550 and Monte Bar C3200 At MWC Too

Labels: , , , ,

The S8500 "Wave" isn't the only handset Samsung will be revealing at MWC. We're now hearing that the Monte Slider E2550 (above) and the Monte Bar C3200 (below) handsets will show up as well. These aren't high-end phones, but they're still worth the look. This handset won't be sporting the Bada OS so you're stuck with just the original TouchWiz UI on both of these handsets. All of the other information will be announced at MWC.

HTC Photon To Be Announced as the HD2 Mini at MWC

Labels: , ,

We've heard about the HTC Photon because it was a part of the HTC portfolio leak from late last year. It looks like this handset will be appearing at MWC and it'll be announced as the HTC HD2. This could very well be true since it's sporting a similar look if you take a look at the picture, but the display is much smaller [than the HD2] at just 3.2-inches - too bad it'll only be sporting a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz CPU though. Let's just wait and see what happens cause MWC officially kicks off tomorrow. I wonder if it'll get launched in April 2010, like it says.

Live Photos of the Samsung S8500 "Wave" Bada Phone Leak Early

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like that Samsung S8500 "Wave" has just been pictured in the wild and it actually looks pretty sexy since they're some high quality pictures. This handset will feature a 3.3-inch touchscreen display (like the Super AMOLED one), a 5MP AF camera with a flash and 720p video recording capabilities, 2GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, HSDPA connectivity, WiFi b/g/n, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.5mm headphone jack, tempered glass, a 1,500 mAh battery, and the Bada OS with TouchWiz 3.0. Along with all of that news the body is made of aluminum and is just 10.9mm thin. It's definitely looking like it's a good start to Bada, but let's see how the software is.

Microsoft "Turtle" Handset Passes the FCC, Pretty Much Confirms The Ugly Design

Labels: , , , , ,

Well, it looks like those old picture of the Microsoft Turtle could actually be true - they weren't kidding around about launching it for the "younger" generation. The Turtle has just passed the FCC (filing here) and it's been identified as the Sharp PB10ZU. It's said to be packing a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, CDMA connectivity, WiFi / Bluetooth support, a camera, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. We don't know what version of Windows Mobile this handset will be running, but we could hear about it at MWC which officially kicks off tomorrow!

First Bada Phone To Be the Samsung Wave

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like Samsung has just leaked out their own Bada handset thanks to this billboard. Of course, the big unveiling will come at MWC in a couple of days, but it's definitely looking like it could be sporting that 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display. Let's hope that the Samsung Wave will be a good start for Bada.
