Synaptics Shows Off "ClickPad" Multi-Touch Trackpads For Netbooks

Labels: , ,

What you see here is the buttonless trackpad, courtesy of Synaptics. You may remember Synaptics as the company that will provide Nokia with their future multi-touch capacitive touchscreens. This trackpad is called the "ClickPad" according to Synaptics and it's targeted for netbooks. "ClickPads work with Synaptic's latest Gesture Suite 9.1, which includes all the regulars, along with three-finger flick and three-finger press, which lets you start up your computer along with up to six predetermined start apps." It sounds complicated, but I'm still excited. I can't wait for these to be implemented in the future, I wonder who will use it first.

Garmin-Asus Expects Their First Android Smartphone By the End of Q1 2010

Labels: , , , ,

You may know Garmin-Asus for their infamous G60 Nuviphone (above) that has been delayed for 12 months now. Well, they have just mentioned that they expect to launch their first Android smartphone by the end of Q1 2010. "The duo have declined to comment on how much the Android smartphone might cost. However they have confirmed that the GPS will be used for geotagging photos and for offering other location-based services."

Don't get your hopes up though, it could be delayed until Q4 - with Garmin-Asus' track record.

Labels: , , , , , ,

At Computex 2009, there were a lot of stuff that was announced - so much that I can't even keep up with everything. The Asus Eee PC 1101HA was announced 2 days ago, and today they announced the Eee PC 1101HGo that has built-in 3G. Along with the 3G, the 1101HGo has: the Atom Z520 / Z530 CPUs, a battery long enough to last at least 9.5-hours (probably not true), 1GB of RAM, an 11.6-inch LED-backlit display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, a 160GB HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and a 1.3MP webcam. The 1101HGo did not receive a price tag or a release date, but I'll tell you that information in the future.

T-Mobile USA Releasing Next Android Phone In Early Summer

Labels: , , , , , , ,

T-Mobile USA has just mentioned that their next Android device will be available in "early Summer" which is just a couple of weeks away. They didn't mention what Android device they are launching, but it's most likely the HTC Magic / Google Ion, and it could launch as the myTouch 3G / T-Mobile G2. I wonder if the HTC Magic will get the rumoured 5MP camera upgrade that we heard about a while ago. We'll just have to see in the near future.

Samsung Launching New Phone On June 15th

Labels: ,

If you check out Samsung Unpacked, they have launched a new countdown for a new mobile phone. The countdown will end on June 15 and that's when Samsung will, obviously, unveil the new phone. We'll see what happens on the 15th, so I'll be sure to report that for all of you. Check out the excerpt below for more information.

Sealed within a multi-layered box, the top-secret new Samsung Mobile phone will be passed between people. Each day, one person will be selected to unpack a layer of the box, winning the new Samsung Mobile phone in the process. The box will then be passed on to the next person, and so on - until 15 June, when one lucky person will reveal the phone to the world at the Samsung Unpacked launch event. Along the way, someone will also win the $5,000 grand prize.

ECS 8.1-Inch T800 Netbook Running Android; Caught on Video

Labels: , , , , , ,

No, it's not the Sony Vaio P. It's actually the ECS T800 netbook running Android. The T800 was shown off at Computex and it has: an 8.1-inch LCD display, a chiclet keyboard (which I'm starting to like more and more), your choice of either 800MHz or 1GHz TI OMAP3 CPUs, 512MB of RAM, and will run the Android OS. It will also come with your choice of an HDD or an SSD, 2 USB 2.0 slots, a memory card reader, a headphone jack, 2 Mini-PCIe card slots (for HSPA and WiMAX), and also has your choice of either a 0.3 / 1.3MP webcam. This netbook is just 20mm thick and weighs just 800 grams. This ECS T800 netbook is targeted for a release in the second half of this year for under $500 USD.

Acer Shows Off the Aspire One D250 Running Android

Labels: , , , , ,

At Computex this year, Acer announced their first Android-based netbook hitting consumers in Q3 of this year. Well, could this be it? Well, the sad thing is that the answer is "No." That's because Acer decided to show off Android running on the Aspire One D250, just for a test run. The OS is pretty stable and starts up in just 18 seconds and shuts down - almost instantaneously - in one second. The demo showed off the OS and also showed off Firefox running in Android which is, apparently, new. Check out the PC Watch link below to check out the video.

Samsung Shows Off 55-Inch 240Hz Full HD LCD Display and 10.1-Inch LCD Display

Labels: , ,

At SID this week, Samsung has shown off a couple of displays. Yesterday, they showed off their "world's first" 55-inch true 240Hz Full HD LCD display. They've also showed off a couple of OLED displays and a new 10.1-inch LCD display fit for their future netbooks. The new 10.1-inch LCD displays consume 50% less power and also sport a wide 1,366 x 768 resolution. They also unveiled a new 4-inch QVGA TFT-LCD "made using a printable semiconductor process." Maybe we'll see the 4-inch display in a smartphone soon? I certainly hope so.

Asus Lamborghini VX5 Gaming Laptop Hitting Italy By the End of the Month; UK in August

Labels: ,

It's been a while since I've seen this picture. It's the Asus Lamborghini VX5 and it looks like it will be hitting the UK this August. We heard about this gaming laptop back in early March and today Asus announced the same specs over again. That is: a 16-inch 1080p Full-HD capable display, a possible 1TB SSD, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 CPU, Nvidia GeForce GT130M graphics, and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Italians will be getting their first shot at this laptop in late June, which is a bit earlier than those UK folks. So far, Asus hasn't announced if this will hit North America - more specifically US - and they've also decided to keep their mouth shut about the - probably massively expensive - price tag.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Leaked?

Labels: , ,

According to a tipster, this could be the first leaked image of the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2, codenamed "Vulcan." It's not confirmed yet, and probably won't be for a while, but it does look like a decent upgrade though. It has a fairly large screen and the QWERTY keyboard looks nice. It will be utilizing Windows Mobile as its OS, so hopefully Sony Ericsson decides to wait until WinMo 6.5 to release this device because WinMo 6.1 is just terrible. We'll see what happens in the future, but it could be fake like the 5900 XpressMusic.

Acer F1 Sports 1GHz CPU, 5MP and WinMo 6.5; Acer F900 Smartphone Hits The UK

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

That's right! The Acer F1 that you see above was shown off at Computex rocking the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz CPU that is found in the almighty Toshiba TG01. This prototype was also running Windows Mobile 6.5 and has a 3.8-inch touchscreen display. The Acer F1 also keeps me smiling with its: 5MP AF camera with a flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, WiFi, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA support. The F1 is said to be available by this Christmas and is definitely in my top 5 phones of the year. As of right now, the price hasn't been mentioned, but I have a feeling that it won't be cheap.

The Acer F900 smartphone is now available in the UK. It has: a 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen display, HSDPA / HSUPA connectivity, and will run Windows Mobile 6.1. It also has: 3G, a 3MP camera, GPS, and could be upgradeable to WinMo 6.5, since it is clearly sporting a dedicated "Windows" key. The Acer F900 smartphone is now available for £429 ($709 USD) in the UK - and that's unlocked.

Canada Getting the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Thanks to Rogers

Labels: , , , ,

Rogers is getting everything and is hands-down the best carrier in Canada. According to this blurry picture, Rogers will be getting the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It will sport the same resistive touchscreen, so that will be kind of sad - no Synaptics capacitive multi-touch display yet folks. I'd love to see people walking around with this because it will definitely look better than all of those Sony Ericsson phones that everyone has. Anyways, there has been no word on the availability or the price, but I just thought I'd mention that Rogers is getting another "first" with this handset.
