Sony Teases New VAIO Ultra Mobile PC, A New Vaio P On the Way

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like Sony has just put up a teaser for a new VAIO New Ultra Mobile PC that they'll be launching. Engadget is the first to point out that this is going to be a new Vaio P (possibly the Mark 2). Apparently, the orange paper clip is what the new Vaio P will look like from the side. Of course, that's all we know right now, so you can check out the teaser site for yourself here.

New Sony Vaio P Models Hit the FCC With EV-DO 3G Via Qualcomm's Gobi

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Although we don't know much about these two new Vaio P's that have hit the FCC, the AK8PCG11111L (here) and the AK8PCG31113L (here), we do know that they sport WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, along with CDMA / EV-DO connectivity thanks to the Qualcomm Gobi chipset. Sony has kept their mouth shut about this model, and they should do the big unveil before or on May 13th since that's what the confidentiality request is lifted. Maybe it's the Mark 2?

Web Advertisement Says Sony Vaio P Is Headed To Verizon

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like the Sony Vaio P will really be making its way to Verizon's network. This web ad was just spotted and, obviously, it's a Vaio P with Verizon Wireless branding on the 8-inch display. We don't know which OS it will be running right now, but we should see a 160GB HDD and 2GB of RAM inside of this netbook.

Verizon Planning To Launch the Sony Vaio P Netbook Later This Year?

Labels: , , , , ,

A new leak states that Verizon is planning to launch the Sony Vaio P netbook in the future. On November 5th, Verizon will be holding an event that will tell us exactly when it will be available. This netbook is said to have: a 160GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, an integrated webcam / microphone, the traditional 8-inch display with a 1,600 x 768 resolution, and Windows 7 Home Premium. We don't know the exact pricing details, but it could be around $300 USD on a 2-year contract.

The overpriced Sony Vaio P looks like it's getting two new upgrades. The Sony Vaio P is now equipped with an Intel Atom Z550 2.0GHz CPU and starting on October 22nd will have Windows 7 pre-installed. Check it out on Sony UK's website now. We don't know when these will hit North America yet.

New Sony Vaio P Passes FCC, Possible Fall Release

Labels: , , , , ,

Back in July, we heard that Sony was planning a "mark 2" for the Sony Vaio P and that we heard that it would be released in Fall. Well yesterday, a new Sony Vaio P just passed the FCC and the good thing is that it will be just as ultra-portable, since it will be just about the same size as the current Vaio P. The specs right now are scarce, but there will be WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth on this new model. Let's hope that the Fall release date sticks for those out there that are interested.

Hey Japan, WiMAX Option For the Sony Vaio P [and Vaio Z] Will Be Available on July 30

Labels: , , , , , , ,

It's been delayed, but it's here. The painfully slow, but sexy Sony Vaio P will be getting a WiMAX option in Japan for an extra 10,000 yen ($106 USD). The WiMAX option will be available on Vaio P's starting on July 27th for pre-orders and it will be shipping 3 days later on the 30th of the month.

The Sony Vaio Z will also be getting the WiMAX option too. The release date for the WiMAX option on the Vaio Z will be available at "roughly the same time."

Sony Planning Vaio P "Mark 2" For This Fall

Labels: , , , , ,

While the Sony Vaio P is sexy, it fails performance-wise. A Sony rep has mentioned that the sales of the first Vaio P haven't gone "through the roof", but they are, in fact, selling. The rep also mentioned that they are releasing a new Vaio P "mark 2" ultraportable later this year - October or November. Hopefully the second time around, the Vaio P will be cheaper and will be better in terms of performance. Nothing is known about this new Vaio P scheduled to be available in late Fall.

Sony Vaio P Gets Atom Z550 CPU and WiMAX Option, New Benchmarks

Labels: , , , , ,

The Sony Vaio P has a striking design, but the performances was not doing so well at launch. This could be due to the fact that it had an underpowered CPU and was running Windows Vista. For future Vaio P users, they are in luck because Sony has just given the Vaio P an upgraded Intel Atom Z550 CPU and a WiMAX option. Along with the SSD drive, the Vaio P almost did twice as well as it did when it was originally launched - on the latest benchmark tests.

Sony Releasing WiMAX Option For The Vaio Z and P By The End of the Month

Labels: , , , , , ,

Sony has just announced that it plans to launch a WiMAX option to both their Vaio Z and Vaio P laptops.
These WiMAX-enabled models are expected to be available in Japan by the end of the month. The Vaio Z and P already have 3G connectivity, so having WiMAX as another option would be a great addition. Nothing else is known, so I'll tell you all about it when it gets released.

Wistron PurseBook Powered By Snapdragon

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

This may look similar to the Sony Vaio P, but it is actually very different. First of all, the price range is the $299 to $499 USD mark - take that Sony. The PurseBook also utilizes a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which should make the PurseBook run quite fast. Wistron's PurseBook will not use Windows, instead it uses Linux, which some consumers may not like, that will "give you a desktop-class web experience, and connect with social networks." Wistron claims that the netbook / MID-looking device is expected to have an 8-hour battery life; it's expected to be released later this year so be on the lookout for it.

Lenovo Pocket Yoga Not A Real Product?

Labels: , , ,

Well, I've talked about the Lenovo Vaio P look alike that was leaked on Saturday (here) and it was even given a name earlier this morning. A new rumour has it that Lenovo's design department has denied that the Pocket Yoga even exists. They went on to mention that the Lenovo Pocket Yoga is a two-year old concept. So, unfortunately, they are denying any information that was leaked about this netbook. It's kind of sad to see it go, but maybe they are just lying. Just maybe! It looks like Lenovo had this whole netbook idea before any other company even thought of it, talk about innovative! It's gets you thinking now, why didn't they release this concept? As of right now no one knows that answer.

Lenovo's Vaio P Gets Named; Pocket Yoga

Labels: , , , ,

Lenovo's Vaio P competitor has finally gotten a name. It's now called the Lenovo Pocket Yoga. The Yoga still has no spec sheet but it'll be interesting to see how much Lenovo can pack into this netbook. You can view more pictures of the Pocket Yoga if you go to Engadget's site.

Nokia XpressMusic Lineup, Gigabyte M1028, Lenovo's Vaio P

Labels: , , , , , ,

Nokia has something in store for tomorrow and it has something to do with music. A new rumour has it that Nokia will be announcing the Nokia XpressRadio 5030 and the Nokia XpressMusic 5330 and 5730 (left). The XpressRadio 5030 is a candybar phone and gets its name because of its built-in FM radio. The 5030's price will be fairly low, starting out at around €40 ($51 USD). The next thing in line is the XpressMusic 5330 slider with an apparent 24 hours of "listening time." This handset is scheduled to be released in Q3 this year for around €160 ($204 USD). Finally, we make it to the XpressMusic 5730 which is in the picture. It has WiFi, a 3.2MP camera, HSDPA, GPS and has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard which is a good way to put together the whole package. This is scheduled to be released in Q2 this year for €280 ($357 USD).

This is the Gigabyte M1028 netbook / tablet. This system has an 8.9-inch (or 10-inch, not sure) touchscreen, the N280 Atom, up to 2GB of RAM, up to 250GB of HDD storage, has optional 3G and WiMAX and also has your choice of either a 4 or 6-cell battery. I'm not sure when it will be released or the price of this system or the OS, so I'm sorry about that.

Over at the Beijing IBM headquarters this Lenovo netbook was spotted. It looks a bit like the Lenovo Reserve Edition and bears a similar wide display that's also seen on the Sony Vaio P. Although this Lenovo may not be as "pocketable" as the Vaio P is (insert joke here), i'm still looking forward to more information about this piece of hardware from the Lenovo camp.

Starcraft 2 Release Date!?, Wii MotionPlus, Firefox 3.0.7, Panasonic Z1, Vaino

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

GameStop has released their latest flyer and it mentions that Starcraft 2 will be released on PCs and Mac's on June 2. I highly doubt this happening because GameStop's dates are fairly inaccurate and because it just seems too early. Less than 3 months for Blizzard to get this game out to the public? I wish it were true, but i'm going to have to say that it is false. Man, oh man, if Blizzard confirms this, you will see me at the Best Buy midnight line-up.

A Nintendo Power article has just mentioned that the long-awaited release of Wii MotionPlus will be arriving before Electronic Arts' upcoming Grand Slam Tennis game. This means that Wii MotionPlus will be hitting consumers anywhere from now until June 18 which is when Grand Slam Tennis is scheduled to be released.

Firefox 3.0.7 was released yesterday (Wednesday) and it fixes six critical security issues that were found in Firefox 3.0.6. The download link is here (for Windows) just in case you can't wait for Firefox to prompt you to download the new version. I don't use Firefox anymore, thanks to Chrome, but it's good to see that Firefox is still doing well. It is currently ranked as the second most widely used browser. Second to Internet Explorer 7 which holds 40% of the market share.

The God-like Panasonic Z1 will be released in June for a price tag that will hurt your wallets and feelings. The 1-inch thick plasma TV from Panasonic will cost $6,000 USD. The Panasonic Z1 has a contrast ratio of 40,000:1, has "THX certification" and also comes with a separate box which is the wireless HDMI receiver. In the dying plasma market, this may be the last sexy plasma you ever see. This picture doesn't even look real, i mean look how damn thin this plasma is. Damn, Panasonic.

Meet the Vaino laptop. It kind of looks like a Sony Vaio P, doesn't it? That's because it's a knock-off of course. The Vaino actually has a bigger screen (10.2-inches) and a faster processor than the Vaio P does, so take that Sony. It also has a 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, an integrated 1.3MP webcam and, obviously, WiFi. While it may look like an identical Vaio P clone in the left photo, it shows its true looks in the right photo. Personally, i would rather have the Vaio P, but if the price difference is significant then why not opt for the Vaino. Maybe because at first glance it looks extremely similar to the Vaio P and you will look like a douche for having a knock-off.

Apple iPhone 4G Concept, Intel's Nehalem 8-Core Xeon Processor, Panasonic Says "3D Full HD" By 2010, UMID M1, Ninjas On Playstation Home, Google PowerMeter

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A new iPhone 4G concept picture was revealed to the world. It looks amazing. Very thin and sleek. The specs were not established, so you can just let your imagination come up with anything you want. Everyone looks like they're excited for the new video-conferencing that will be in the new iPhone. Until Apple releases what the next iPhone will look like, we can only create concepts of it. Hopefully, there will be a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but i don't think Apple will implement that, since they love their touchscreens. I could be wrong though.

Remember Intel's 8-core Xeon processor? Looks like it was announced on Monday at ISSCC. The 8-core, 16-thread Xeon processor is 64-bit and is part of the Nehalem family. I actually don't know much about processors, so if you want to read it, it's right here for you, via Ars Tenchnica.

Looks like Panasonic is really going to push this 3D-business. The company is striving for the output of 3D FHD (3D Full HD) Blu-ray to the world. We saw the 3D displays at CES and it was only a matter of time until one of the companies would try to take full advantage of the technology. Panasonic looks like it will be that company. Panasonic announced the "opening of a new 3D authoring laboratory at its Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory in California." Look out for Blu-ray in 3D FHD at a theater near you. We may even see it on that 380-inch screen that was shown a couple of days ago.

This netbook reminds me of the Vaio P. It's small and, to a certain extent, 'pocketable'. The UMID M1 looks like it will weigh about 0.7 pounds, have a 4.8-inch touchscreen, and a 1.1GHz Atom processor. It will also have up to 1GB of RAM, up to 32GB of SSD, "WiBro[?] / HSDPA / WiMAX / WiFi / Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, mini USB 2.0, and an SD/USIM card." It will come pre-installed with Linux, not Windows. Some users purchasing this, probably don't know this. They're going to be surprised and probably going to send it back and complain about it too. Pre-orders for this netbook start on February 13 and will cost around $500 USD. Oh wait, it's only available in Korea. Sorry to break your heart.

Along with the recent announcement of Street Fighter and Resident Evil stuff on Playstation Home, you will be able to dress as a ninja. This outfit will be available on February 12. In addition to the ninja outfits, on February 13 there will be an event called "I Love Ninjas" in the Gamer Lounge on Home. Winners in the event will receive SOCOM and Warhawk vouchers "to celebrate the upcoming spaces." Go Ninjas!

Google, for the 41st day in a row, has released a new service. Google PowerMeter. What will this do? You will be able to track the electricity usage in your home. Google will probably have access to this information, so you're forewarned. Google has mentioned that, by knowing this information, you will be able to cut your use of electricity, so that you save your money. There is a video about it below, enjoy. This video is from YouTube, so special thanks to them.

CES: Sony Keynote

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Someone is talking and i have no clue who it is. I lied, it's Tom Hanks. He talks and is actually pretty funny. He introduces Howard Stringer.

Howard, alongside, Tom Hanks show a prototype of certain wearable glasses that you can watch a movie in and still manage to see the real world due to the transparency settings. Soon after, Tom Hanks leaves the stage. Time for some serious and real news now. Howard admits that Sony is not recession proof. So far this is all the information i have after 15 minutes of talking. Anyways, Howard mentions 7 goals: embrace the fusion of industries, adopt a service-enhanced philosophy, products must be multi-functional, support open technologies, advance the new shared experience, create new value chains (involving better user experience) and go green. In 2011, Sony estimates that 90% of products will connect wirelessly to the web and each other. He mentions a couple of thing's that Sony accomplished last year. The world's first Bravia with 240Hz technology, the slimmest LCD measuring at 9.9mm thin and launching a Bravia with internet capabilities. He mentions that Total Sony Experience. He shows off the world's first camera with Wi-Fi capabilities, the new CyberShot. It will have a one touch upload and the pictures are even uploadable to your Bravias. He also mentions that it has an extraordianary reasonable price and the crowd started to laugh. I could tell that this was not the reaction he wanted and he immediately cleared his throat twice to shut the crowd up. Ooo. Anyways, by using Wi-Fi, Sony has developed a new bedside companion with news, sports, weather, alarms and so much more. It will also be touchscreen and is for the next-generation. He says, "Wouldn't you like to wake up to Big Ben?... the clock i mean." The crowd chuckled a bit. Time for some OLED! They are working on a 20 - 30 inch model. He shows the "Flex OLED" screen (above picture) that has amazing clarity on a small screen. While the Beyonce music video was playing on the Flex OLED, he bent the screen more, just to showcase it. Howard mentions that Sony sells the most HD products and he continues, mentioning Blu-rays 2008 sales of 28 million. He reports that Sony sells half of all Blu-ray players. He gives the stage up to Pixar.

John Lasseter, from Pixar, enters that stage and talks about Blu-ray. He says that when you have it you can't go back. He shows a clip of their movie Wall-e featuring Blu-ray. He mentions that Blu-ray is not just about quality, but that it also has BD-live which is connected to the Internet. He shows a new Sleeping Beauty integrated with BD-live. The menu screen will show a scenery and the background, weather area, of where you are currently located by default and you can change it by clicking anywhere on the map. In the future, Pixar will use 3D and Blu-ray in their movies. John ends off his presentation by showing an exclusive preview of Pixar's next movie called Up. He mentions that they are working on Toy Story 3 and 3D version's of Toy Story 1 and 2.

Howard comes back on stage and mentions a bit more about Blu-ray. The Playstation 3 helped Blu-ray win the war between HD-DVD. He says that there is a 61.3 million install base of the PS3 and the PSP. Shortly after, he introduces someone really familiar to me.

Mr. Kaz Hirai takes the stage. He quickly says that there have been 330 million content downloads over the PSN (Playstation Network). There are 17 million accounts and 2.1 million in the most recent months on PSN. The Playstation 3 is a great example of getting a community together. This is because of LittleBigPlanet, a game that has 1.3 million players. He mentions that the original game came with 50 levels, but now there are user-generated content and up to 300,000 levels currently! He backtracks to 2 years ago and mentions that in April 2007 they launched Sony Online Entertainment. Well now, they are working on a game called Free Realms, which is an MMO. It will launch on the PC first and then shortly after, it will hit the PS3. Kaz reports that MTV is partnering with them to help with their movies, and such, on their Playstation Store. He shows Life with Playstation, which is kind of like Google Earth, but just a bit more basic. I don't know the features of Life with Playstation, but he only showcased different parts of the world and certain temperatures. Kaz talks about Playstation Home and says that in the first month, 3.4 million users doiwnloaded Home. There have been 1 million dollars worth of products sold on Playstation Home ever since it's been released [on Open Beta]. Kaz mentions that Electronic Arts is going to help them develop certain things on Home.

Howard Stringer comes back on stage and is joined by Dr. Oz. Sony Pictures will be producing this guy's show on TV in Fall 2009. I don't know what this guy has to do with anything at Sony's keynote. But, i did find it amusing that he talked about being fat. LOL America, maybe you should listen to this guy.

After Dr. Oz's talk, Howard Stringer is on stage with another person, Reggie Jackson, who is in MLB's Hall-of-Fame. He talks about his baseball career and that he is excited about future technology. Playstation 3 will be in the new New York stadium that they are building. Reggie Jackson leaves the stage. Howard tells the crowd that the Eco-Bravia won CES 2009's Innovation Design and Engineering award in the eco-design category. He talks about recycling, just like everyone did. He shows a couple of new products now. The Dye Sensitized Solar Cell, which can create energy from light in your room and he said that there is more information about it at Sony's booth after the keynote. He also shows the Sugar-based Bio Battery and the concept Greenheart phone, which is made of recycled products. He shows 3d video's to the audience, which G4 skips, since there really would be no point in us at home to see this. After that, someone from Dreamworks Animation talks, but i didn't really pay too much attention to him.

Before Howard finished his presentation, he mentioned: PlayNow Plus, a Sony Ericcson phone (I forget the model), the Vaio P (above picture) and Sony Music.

Gosh, Sony, what's with the 74-minute+ keynote? It's alright, i forgive you guys. Anyways, this weekend will be pretty tough for me. Tomorrow, i'm gonna finish blogging about everything CES and then i need to get cracking on my homework, which i have quite a bit to do.

Sony's New Netbook, Lenovo OPhone, A Wallet

Labels: , , ,

Sony has actually unintentionally confirmed the new Vaio netbook. It is going to be 8 inches and will sport a wide 1600x768 resolution. It packs a 1.33 GHz Intel processor and has a 60GB hard drive. It's pretty cool but on the other hand, i think it's too small for someone like me to use. Looking at this picture kind of tells me that it will be good to have on-the-fly and that female's can put it in their purses, or whatever. So yeah, this new netbook will be pretty small, it can probably fit in a big pocket, i guess. Hmm, seeing how it is Sony it will probably be overpriced, but eh, that's just what i think.

So, Lenovo will release a new phone, the Lenovo OPhone. The OPhone is just 1 mm thicker than the iPhone 3G and packs many more features. The OPhone, to me, looks uglier than the iPhone but it does have a 5MP camera with a flash. It may be a good competitor, but i think many people will agree with me and say that, currently, the iPhone can't be brought down. The iPhone's specifications may be lacking, but it makes up for it with it's awesome OS and fluidity. Don't even get me started on all of the applications that the iPhone has. It is pretty much a gaming console and i don't think Lenovo will scare Apple one bit. The iPhone is just too packed with applications and games. The Lenovo OPhone is pictured on the left side and it is located in the middle of the 2 iPhones.

So, after getting home after driving over black ice last night, i ended up going to bed at about 4:30 a.m. I woke up this morning at 11:42 and i've been trying to install Greasemonkey on Google Chrome. Up to now, i still don't know how to install the scripts, but hopefully i'll be able to get it soon after i write this blog. Anyways, me and my mom haven't talked much today, i haven't even told her 'Merry Christmas,' but i guess i already did last night. Does that count? Anyways, she walked into my room and handed me this small box thing. I opened it and it revealed that she gave me a wallet with $50 CAD inside. Yay. I was so excited... not. Why would i need a wallet, seriously? I'm already fine with my fake Lacoste wallet, but she gets me another one anyway. I am probably not going to ask her for a ride to my girlfriend's house later because i don't really want to talk to her. But, ehh, i'll just bus, it's okay. I know tonight will be fun and i can't wait to get to my girlfriend's place later today. It really doesn't feel like Christmas, but i don't know. I hope that my 2 best friend's are having a good Christmas and i wish you ALL a Merry Christmas! Greasemonkey struggling, here i come [again!].

Sony Vaio Netbook, Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds

Labels: , , , ,

So, today i woke up at around 1 p.m. After just lying down and trying to wake up my girlfriend twice while watching TV for an hour, i decided to leave my bed. I went to go eat my breakfast and after about half an hour of digestion i even ate my Swiss Chalet, that i should have ate last night. Omg, i took a bubble bath today. Since my shower-head isn't properly functioning, i had no other choice. So, anyways, i took my first bubble bath in about 7 years. It was so relaxing. I was just lying there and falling asleep, but still waiting for my girlfriend to wake up. Anyways, i got out of the tub after about 25 minutes of relaxation. After that, i watched some TV and my girlfriend finally woke up. Soon after that, i had to go to church. When we got to church i spotted my cousins, Aldric and Cathleen, not too far away from us. So we decided to move over from our location, to theirs. After mass, it was snowing. Okay, well, it really wasn't, but there was a lot of blowing snow that made that effect of falling snow. I fell asleep in the car on the way home, but made it home safely. And that's where i currently am now.

So, Sony Vaio is going to be releasing a new netbook on, what looks to be, January 9. This netbook is going to be "revolutionary" and will "change the way you look at laptops." There are some pictures on what it may look like. It may be longer in width than the usual netbook or notebook (laptop) that are currently being showcased. But we'll just really have to see what sets this netbook apart from other netbooks.

Speaking of "revolutionary," i have some good news and bad news here and i'll start off with the bad news. What i'm about to talk about will cost around $3,600 USD and weighs a hefty 11 pounds. The good news, dual monitors. Lenovo, as you can see on the left side, will be releasing a new notebook. It will feature 2 screens: one being the 17-inch (supposedly being the brightest on the market) primary screen, and also an integrated WACOM digitizer (whatever that means). This laptop is loaded. It comes with "Intel Core 2 Quad processors and combined with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M GPU. Ram maxes out at 8GB and you can stuff a total of 960GB of SSD / HDD storage into this bad boy." This thing is a beast, weighing 11 pounds, as stated above. Luckily, the video card tells you that this laptop is not for the normal everyday user. Sporting the NVIDIA Quadro video card points out that it is for the user dedicated to (and probably has a career in) hardcore photo / video editing. Looks nice though, i'm waiting to hear more information about it because it certainly sparks my interest. I'm not going to get it though, it's just interesting to talk about.

Cold day, very cold day. But, i am not looking forward to waking up at 7:30 tomorrow morning for the damn plumber =(.
