200th Post: Killzone 2, Social Bar, Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

200th post. All by myself in a span of under 3 months. What an accomplishment! And, i finally got 100% on a Physics quiz. This shows that there's a first time for everything.

So, Killzone 2 came out yesterday. If you want to win this sexy [replica] gun, be sure to get the game and play as much as you can starting today [March 1] until March 14. Don't forget to view your stats at Killzone.com. Pwn the nubs.

I've included the Facebook-like bar at the bottom of my blog. It's called the Social Bar which is associated with Google Friend Connect. What you can do on it is pretty self-explanatory so i'm not going to go in-depth with that.

So, last night i watched Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. It was better than i expected it would be. It will definitely be better than that Dragonball Evolution movie solely because of Kristen Kreuk. I'm not going to do a summary or anything, but i just thought i'd mention that since there's nothing else to talk about. She's fairly hot in the movie, not as hot as i was expecting though. She looked pretty, but not over-the-top like that seducing scene in Smallville that my girlfriend showed me last week. Oh yes, we all also went to Demetre's last night after the movie. My girlfriend got me "The Last Straw" which is strawberry crepe with vanilla ice cream. It was an orgasm in my mouth. It was so good, since i haven't had a crepe in years. Anyways, i must go shower now. I have lots of English and Physics to do this weekend.

Why did my 200th post have to be so boring! There was one more thing i wanted to talk about, but i forgot what it was now. Maybe i'll remember later.

Kindle 3, Mozilla Fennec Name Change, LG Leaving The Plasma World

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Kindle 2 was just released and now we head back to the new rumours. The Kindle 3 rumours, that is. Apparently, PVI (Prime View International, the makers of the Kindle's display) has mentioned that the next Kindle will have a larger display and will have "touch functions." The screen may be the size of a regular sheet of paper, which is 8.5 x 11-inches. This would make things more readable. The Kindle 3 is supposedly going to hit shelves by the end of this year. Maybe the next Kindle will have pinch and zoom? Multi-touch functionality? Hello Apple lawsuit.

Mozilla is still currently working on their mobile browser. It is called Mozilla Fennec and has already been released. Unfortunately, it's only in an alpha state right now. Well, the head-honchos over at Mozilla have finally decided to change the name Fennec to something more creative. They've decided to change the name to Firefox (told you it was creative). Yeah. Mozilla Fennec has changed its name to Mozilla Firefox, which is identical to their web browser. Very creative Mozilla. +1.

A new rumour has spawned from the LG camp this time. Apparently, LG may stop producing their own plasmas. They may be leaving the plasma business for good. They'll still be continuing their LCD line-up, but it looks like they may "give up" on plasma TVs. This isn't too surprising after seeing Pioneer and Vizio leave the plasma business earlier this year. I think LCDs are just superior to plasmas. TV makers should also be getting OLED TVs out there, even though it is quite expensive. OLED has more future than plasma does, in my opinion.

Dell SX2210 LCD Monitor, Adobe AIR, Blogger and Google Friend Connect

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Alongside the Dell Studio XPS 435 comes the new Dell LCD Monitor, dubbed the SX2210. It is quite sexy, just like the desktop itself. The new 22-inch Dell LCD Monitor has a 1080p resolution, a 1000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. It also comes with an integrated 2.0MP webcam, "160 degrees horizontal / 170 degrees vertical viewing angles, and 300 cd/m² brightness." Dell hasn't mentioned the availability or the price of the monitor. But, Engadget is hoping that it will be released on the same day the Studio XPS 435 will be shipping. That means they're hoping for a March 19 shipping date.

This so-called Adobe AIR application caught my eye, it's called Accuweather. Off the bat, it reminded me of Google gadgets. Up to this point, i still don't know exactly what Adobe AIR is used for. It seems to me that it's like a bunch of gadgets, but it's actually more like applications. After seeing Accuweather and the new update of Adobe AIR a couple of days ago on Filehippo, i've finally decided to see what Adobe AIR is all about. Tomorrow i'm going to download a couple of Adobe AIR applications i found today and test them out. The only ones i'm really considering is Accuweather, the Gmail and also the Google Reader ones. I don't remember the exact names, but i saw them on Mashable earlier.

It's about time Google. After launching Google Friend Connect last Fall, they have finally made it of more use to Blogger users. I use the "Followers" gadget as well as Google Friend Connect on my blog, so that there is a variety of ways users can follow me. I actually noticed lately that a couple of people have abandoned my blog because they weren't showing up on my "Followers" gadget. But, i just found out why. This would answer me and ashlee's problem. Anyways, Google has changed the "Followers" gadget, so that it is implemented with Google Friend Connect. Basically, you may need to re-follow all those blogs that you were previously following. Currently, it seems like there are a couple of issues because i still can't follow some people (ashlee included) on Blogger. It's good that they've implemented this. It's a small change, but a well-needed one. If you want to look at a video about the new addition go to the Official Google Blog here. I just tried to add the "Social Bar" to my blog, but it blocks some of the information at the stop of my page, so as soon as i can fix that problem, you'll see that at the top of the page. As a workaround, i've decided to put the "Social Bar" at the bottom of the page. Enjoy! =D

Microsoft's Surface Computer, Punch Out!!, Gmail Attachments, New Nintendo Wii Controller, PS3 Running Starcraft

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Microsoft's Surface Computer is scheduled to release in 2011, but there is a way you can get it this June. If you're looking to spend a couple million dollars, that is. Microsoft's Surface Computer will go on sale this June, but in order to purchase the Surface Computer itself, you will have to purchase a Lazzara Yacht. Microsoft's Surface Computer will be attached to the floor, inside of the yacht. If you want to make quick money, i heard drug dealing is a good way to do so. Keep in mind that it is still illegal, even in California.

Punch Out!! is coming to the Nintendo Wii on May 18. I'm definitely going to tell my cousins to get this, so that i can play this in the summertime. I love Punch Out!! I remember finishing it about 3 years ago on my computer (thank you SNES emulators). It's a fun game and it's actually something i look forward to playing on the Wii (first time i've ever said that).

You now attach multiple attachments at once on Gmail. As you may know, before you were only allowed to attach one file at a time which made things time-consuming if you were going to attach multiple attachments to one e-mail. But, Google has finally implemented. Go and Shift or Ctrl + Click to attachment domination.

The Classic Controller Pro will be available soon. This is the new Nintendo Wii Controller and they decided to keep the word "Classic" in its name. There is no word on the price or availability but it should be available soon. The new Wii controller, as you can see, has the 2 new handles, emulating the PS3 or Xbox 360 controller.

I thought i'd end it this post with a video of Starcraft running on the Playstation 3 just for kicks. With the use of Windows 95 along with Windows 95, that is, via YouTube.

Win A Replica Killzone Gun!, Dell News: G2410 LCD Montior, Inspiron Mini 10, Studio XPS 435

Labels: , , , , ,

If you purchase and play Killzone 2 anywhere between March 1 to March 14, you will have your shot at getting this replica Killzone 2 Gun. They will only be giving away 14 of these (one everyday) possibly based on your stats, that you will be able to find at Killzone.com. These replica guns will not be available in stores, so make sure you play 24/7 to increase your chances of winning.

"The G410 flat-panel is said to be one of the firm's greenest LCDs, as it proudly sports an EPEAT Gold rating and utilizes halogen-free laminates in circuit boards along with chassis plastics that contains 25 percent post-consumers recycled plastics." So, as you can already tell the Dell G2410 LCD monitor is quite eco-friendly. I've talked about the G2410 before and it seems to be launching $10 less than the expected price was more than a month ago. The monitor is now available for $349 USD. For the aforementioned price, you get the G2410 LCD monitor which rocks a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, "250 nits of brightness", standard VGA / DVI connectors and has a 5ms response time. It seems like a pretty good deal to me, considering that the monitor itself is 24-inches of eco-ness.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is also now available for ordering off of the official Dell website. The pricing starts at $399 USD and if you want another colour besides Obsidian Black (be it Alpine White, New Cherry Red, Promise Pink [Dell will donate $5.00 USD to the Cure, if you choose this colour], Ice Blue or Jade Green) you will have to add $30 USD to your purchase. Another 'expandable' you may consider is upgrading the processor to a 1.6GHz Atom processor for an additional $50 USD. Unfortunately, you cannot expand the 160GB HDD (which disproves what i said in my previous blog post) or the 1GB RAM. The Mini 10 is said to have a ship date anywhere between March 31 to April 2.

The oh-so-sexy Dell Studio XPS 435 has just been priced. For the base model, you are looking at $1,099 USD. This includes "a 2.66GHz Core i7-920 processor, 3GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 3650 256MB graphics card." If you are willing to fork over a ton of cash to turn this beauty into a beast then be prepared. If you want to upgrade the processor to the 3.2GHz Intel Core i7 it will add $1000 USD to your total. If you want to go for the over-the-top 24GB of RAM that will cost you another $1500 USD. Dell mentions that these desktops have a March 19 ship date.

Asus W90, Final Fantasy XIII Demo, Unlocked G1's Can No Longer Download Paid Apps

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

The new Asus W90 gaming laptop is now shipping from Newegg. The laptop will sport an 18.4-inch (WUXGA resolution) screen with a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 and has an ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics card. It also comes with 6GB DDR RAM and 320GB of hard drive storage. This could all be yours if you're willing to spend $2,200 USD. I think it's a good deal, but it may be slightly overpriced.

As part of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete package you will get a Final Fantasy XIII demo. How cool is that? I'm definitely thinking about buying Advent Children, but i won't get the complete package because i don't have a PS3. On second thought, i could get the complete package and head over to my cousin's house to play the demo. We'll see what happens.

Unlocked T-Mobile G1's can no longer download paid apps off of the Android Market. This was just implemented in the latest update. This impacts a number of users because this includes the Developer version of the G1. So, now developers can't even buy apps on the Android Market and they are outraged. We'll see what happens in the future, but as of right now, they can't buy apps which sucks. Hopefully, Google will change their minds about this, but as of right now, those people got owned.

Browser Beta Battles, Windows 7 In September?, 16943 TV, 3 New Nintendo DSi Colours, PSP 2 Is Real!?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

With the release of the Safari 4 Beta yesterday, it was time for some new speed tests. I showed you yesterday that the Safari 4 Beta is the fastest browser, but that was not including betas. So the 6 betas that went head-to-head in this battle, from fastest to slowest, is: Chrome 2.0, Firefox 3.1 Beta 2, Safari 4, Opera 10 Alpha, Safari 3.2.2 [not a beta], and Internet Explorer 8 RC 1. Chrome comes out on top again and IE comes in at last place which isn't surprising.

Rumour has it that Windows 7 will ship with computers starting in September of this year. This is good news because i may be purchasing a new laptop before i go to University or i could possibly just wait for Android (Google's OS). This is not confirmed yet, but this early release would be good for all Windows users because Vista is just terrible. Windows 7 fixes most (if not all) of the flaws in Vista. I praise Windows 7 as much as i do Google Chrome, so it's a good OS. I'm looking forward to the release. I just hope that Microsoft doesn't rush the OS. If they need to, then they should take their time and not make something half-assed like Vista.

The 16943 TV is a concept. It will be able to play your widescreen needs one way and for your fullscreen viewing it would show it the other way. You should be able to picture what i am talking about, by looking at the picture. Although, this does solve the problems of the nasty ol' black bars, this would result in one large black bar. Since this is a concept, it's actually not in current development and also might not ever be. But, i guess i might as well pitch in to what i think should be implemented in this concept, if it were to ever be created. You could implement widgets with Internet connectivity into this TV. The widgets would fill in the black bars that you will get in either the right side or the bottom of the TV when you are on different modes (widescreen or fullscreen). The 16943 TV looks like a puzzle piece to me, now that i look at it.

On March 20, Japan will be receiving 3 new Nintendo DSi colours: pink, metallic blue and lime green. These models are going to be priced at ¥18,900 ($195 USD). It's no surprise that these 3 colours will be hitting Japan-only. Damn you Asia!

I talked yesterday about Sony's UMD-less PSP 2 rumours. Apparently, it's real. This is not confirmed, but that's what is being said. David Perry, chief creative officer at Acclaim, has mentioned that he's been in contact with a developer and that Sony already has the PSP 2 prototype available. It'll be interesting to see how this works out. True or false? What do you think?

Sharp's 108-inch TV, Dell Studio XPS 435, Sony's OLED Walkman, Gmail Title Tweaks

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Just when you thought a 60-inch HDTV for your living room was way too big. Count on Sharp to create the 108-inch TV. Yes, 108-inches. The TV will only cost £100,000 ($143,000 USD), so no need to worry. The Sharp LB-1085 has a 176-degree viewing angle and has a 6ms response time.

Here you see the sexy Dell Studio XPS 435. Besides looking sexy, the top notch model of the system can have you rocking a 3.2GHz Intel Core i7 with an X58 chipset. Also accompanied with 24GB of DDR3 SDRAM [!!!], 4.5TB of hard drive space, the ATI Radeon HD4870 graphics card, Blu-ray drive, 15-in-1 card reader and 8 USB ports. "Of course, getting the max settings is certainly going to cost you a pretty penny, and at this point we've got no deets on pricing or availability." Damn, this desktop looks nice, but could be overpriced since it is part of the XPS series. More on that information when Dell decides to release it.

Sony's answer to Apple's iPod Touch has finally been priced. The Sony touchscreen-OLED Walkman are now available for pre-order at Amazon UK. The 16GB and 32GB models will go for £214 ($308 USD) and £283 ($407 USD), respectively. This is pretty expensive, i think. I think the iPod Touch is still superior to this Walkman. But then again, it's Apple we're talking about here. Anything they make is gold for some people.

A new Gmail Labs feature has been spotted. It is called 'Title Tweaks.' It's fairly hard to explain what the feature does, but the picture is a good representation. It shows the number of your unread items in your inbox in the tab better. Before it used to display "Gmail - Inbox (#)", now it says "Inbox (#) - Gmail." It's not a huge feature and many people are saying that they have already had this feature before, so it's not entirely new.

Kogan Agora, California Legalizing Weed, PSP 2 Rumours, Flexible Touchscreen Display

Labels: , , , , , ,

Remember the Kogan Agora that i just finished talking about. Well, the new model will be dumping the QWERTY keypad for a 3.8-inch full touchscreen. It will still run on Android and may have the same hardware as the old model Kogan Agora (picture). "This is owing to the fact that the Android OS on which the device is based will get the on-screen keyboard with the cupcake update." Good news or bad news? I still wish it could, at least, have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but it looks like that won't be a possibility.

California looks like they want to legalize marijuana, for real. "Ammiano is trying to solve California's budget problem by legalizing marijuana." With a catch, of course, taxing it [marijuana] too. Ammiano goes on to mention that "California always takes the lead -- on gay marriage, the sanctuary movement, medical marijuana." Looks like all of that California Sticky Green (weed) you have, may be taxed soon.

You should all know about Sony's attempts to look for "new machine game testers" and here's where the rumours begin to spawn. First, i heard about the likes of a PSP-4000 and that it will have a sliding screen. And now, a PSP 2. This is not surprising, but it's also a possibility. The picture that you see is an "artist's PSP 2 concept" so don't jump to conclusions. The "mastermind" behind Earthworm Jim had a tweet this morning that said, "I hear Sony FINALLY has the PSP 2. And thank goodness, they've removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive. I'm excited!" He could've made this tweet solely based on the rumours, but could it be a possibility? Could this be the truth? Huh, Sony? Speak up and stop lying to your fans now. Tell us whether your PSP-4000 or PSP 2 is in the making. Maybe they will announce it at E3.

OLEDs move aside because we're talking about flexible touchscreens here. The world's first, in fact. "ASU's Flexible Display Center and military partners have developed the very first display with a flexible touchscreen." This sounds amazing, but they say that this technology probably won't be around for another 18 months. It will probably be longer than that, seeing how long it is taking for OLED to go mainstream. But still, it's good to look forward to.

Samsung SPH-W7100, LG's Watchphone Price, Final Fantasy IV Sequel

Labels: , , , , , ,

You can stop terrorists and rapists today by purchasing your very own Samsung (SPH-W7100) phone. The phone will emit a 100dB alarm with the push of a button. Make sure not to press it accidentally though. "The SPH-W7100 features and SOS function that alerts local authorities to your position via GPS. The phone is being marketed at women and children in Korea for its launch next month." Who cares about the specs because it has an alarm as loud as your MP3's earbuds on max volume. Wait, is that even loud? I don't really know, but i guess this is a step towards anti-terrorism. No?

Looking to purchase an LG Watchphone? Well, you'd just have to be rich. According to Engadget, the watchphone will be Orange's exclusively at the grand price of £1,000 ($1500 USD). This may be considered cheap to some people, but for me, it's expensive. But, it's okay because people will still buy this thing, so that they can look stupid talking to their watch. Luckily, we have Bluetooth in today's society, even in Canada!

The Final Fantasy IV sequel may be making its way to the US (I suppose Canada also). Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (name not confirmed) may be hitting us, but there is scarce information right now. There is no word on console, availability or price. It could even be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN or even WiiWare. The details are minimal right now, so just be on the look out for it.

Safari 4 Beta (Part 3), Office 14, Rock Band and LittleBigPlanet To The PSP, Gmail Goes Down

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

This chart says it all. The Safari 4 Beta is officially the fastest browser available. And, i'm also an idiot. Yes, there is a bookmarks bar, that is similar to Firefox and Chrome's. Although, i still can't find if there's the "restore last open tabs" feature. All-in-all this browser is amazing. Safari did pull a lot of stuff from Chrome, but that's okay. A lot of people are complaining about the lack of the "progress bar" or loading bar thingy that Safari used to have. But, they will probably give it a re-entry in the final build. For the beta there are currently no plug-ins, but that will also probably be implemented in a later build. It seems to me that some people don't even know that Safari can be used on Windows, since it's the standard browser on Macs. So, maybe Apple should emphasize that point more. Anyways, the Safari 4 Beta is a great browser and i'd advise anyone who reads this to at least try it out (especially if you're using Internet Explorer), this coming from a Google fanboy. I still prefer Google Chrome though, so don't think of me differently. Update: I thought i'd mention another thing that Apple should rip from Chrome. The fact that the tabs themselves are not transparent. Since my Windows 7 taskbar is transparent, this also causes Safari's tabs to be transparent (see through). This causes a problem because if the background is white, you can't read the similar white font on Safari. Chrome does a good job with this because the tab itself is not transparent, it uses a light blue background for the tab, plus the font is black and legible. It is a beta though, i'm sure they will further improve on some of their problems.

On a side note, sorry Microsoft Office fans but Office 14 will not be released this year. Ballmer was the one who announced this, so i think it's safe to trust his words.

A bunch of games are going to be released for the PSP this year, but i'll talk about LittleBigPlanet and Rock Band, mainly. Sackboy will hit PSPs this year in Fall. It will have the same gameplay, but will feature new levels for you to master and you will also be able to create your own levels. Basically, it's the same, fun LittleBigPlanet packed onto a UMD for your PSP. Rock Band will also be making its way to the PSP. Rock Band: Unplugged "will include Wi-Fi support and a 'fully-featured in-game store' for downloadable content in the North American and European markets." Primotech mentions that "the peripheral-free game as a beat-matching rhythm title that uses the PSP's directional pad and buttons to play along with guitar, bass, drum and vocal tracks." Does that sound like a good idea? I don't know, you tell me. Some other notable games are Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Assassin's Creed.

Luckily, i was sleeping when this happened. But, this morning Gmail went down and the whole world just went crazy. Everyone resorted to Twitter when Gmail went down, even though it is usually the other way around mentioned Mashable. Google has fixed the problem, but it reportedly went down for about 2 and a half to 4 hours for some users. Google has apologized for the incident, even though everyone is still mad. Gmail -> Gfail, as some users have been calling it ever since the ruckus this morning.

Safari 4 Beta (Part 2)

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

I could be wrong with some of my points, since i haven't exactly tested out the browser to it's full potential. But, after praising the Safari's lightning speed, i must point out it misses on a few key points for me. When i close Safari 4, there is currently no option to "restore the tabs" that were open last. This is key because on my laptop i always have at least 3 tabs open at all times: Facebook, Twitter and Gmail. I want them up as soon as i open my browser, so "restoring the tabs that were open last" should be implemented in a future build. One more key point is the bookmarks bar. Firefox and Chrome do the bookmarks bar well and, for me, Safari's is not too intelligent. Although the "Cover Flow" feature is good, it's also time-consuming and pointless. Apple should implement some kind of bookmarks bar at the top of the page where the so-called "Folders" can be placed because opening bookmarks in a sidebar is kind of old-school and slow productivity-wise. On the other hand, I now have Safari 4 as my default browser but that's because, for some reason, i can't make Chrome my default browser on my laptop. I think it's because of the Windows 7 Beta though. This is good because since Safari 4 is fast, it won't load up links i get from friends in the slow Firefox. Google Chrome is still my number one browser, so don't think that i've made a permanent move to Safari 4. Safari 4 now has an interface similar to Chrome. The address bar and all the information is crushed-up to the top of the browser's interface. They took out the "Menu Bar" and now utilize the same buttons on the top right side for the options and preferences that Chrome does. I haven't used Safari 3, so i don't know which features are new features. But, i should also point out that the Safari 4 Beta has an Autofill feature. I will probably do a "Part 3" of the Safari 4 Beta, but i'll do that when i've gone through everything the Safari 4 Beta has to offer.

Safari 4 Beta

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Meet the Safari 4 Beta. The Safari 4 Beta is now available and has a new JavaScript engine (Nitro), which is apparently 4.2x faster than Safari 3's engine was. Safari has finally decided to bring something to the table here, pulling stuff from Chrome and Firefox. They've made the move to putting the tabs on the top calling it "a more intelligent method for tabbed browsing." It also has a "Top sites" feature just like Chrome does, so those are both awesome features. "It's also got full history search, and you can use Cover Flow to search through it and bookmarks. Firefox-y features come in the form of a smart address bar and smart search field." You can now even use Ctrl + Tab to move between your different tabs, which should've already been implemented. This is a major overhaul for Safari and i must say that i am impressed. I actually like Safari better than Firefox now. It loads amazingly fast, rivaling Chrome's speed. I actually think it might be faster than Chrome [emphasis on might]. It could be a possibility. I've used it for the past 10 minutes now and am seeing blazing speeds. Apple is actually saying that Safari 4 is the "world's fastest and most innovative web browser for Mac and Windows PCs." It will be interesting to see the new speed tests results. Internet Explorer still lags behind and i think that Firefox is slower than this new Safari beta. Apple is quick to say that they utilize "the new Nitro JavaScript engine that executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than IE 7 [not surprising] and more than three times faster than Firefox 3. Safari quickly loads HTML web pages three times faster than IE 7 and almost three times faster than Firefox 3." They mentioned Firefox and IE, but they left out Chrome so Apple, themselves, may still know that they still have to catch up to Chrome's speeds. Safari is based on WebKit which is also used in Chrome. The Safari 4 Beta is mighty impressive and i'll give you more information on Safari 4 as i continue to test it out. It's a competitor. Look out Chrome and Firefox [and IE] because Safari is looking to spoil the party.

LG LH70 HDTVs, Stolen WinMo 6.5 Phones, Next PSP, Firefox 3.1

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

LG's new LH70 HDTVs are almost available... in Korea, that is. The 2 models are 42 and 47 inches and are just 39.7mm and 40.9mm thin, respectively. The HDTVs will have a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz technology (to get rid of the blurring that you probably barely notice), 2ms response time, a USB port and will apparently have Bluetooth. There is no word on the price or availability and the chances of this coming out of Korea is slim, but I still hope it does.

Remember when Microsoft's prototype got stolen at MWC? Well luckily for Microsoft, they were able to wipe all of their "secret" information off of that phone shortly after it got snatched. Looks like the thief was in for a surprise when he went to go look at Microsoft's secret information. Deuce on you!

Late last week, Sony was looking for "new game machine testers." Well, rumour has it that this "new game machine" is the PSP-4000. The revamped PSP will have a sliding screen (similar to the picture, but is NOT what the new PSP will look like), but will unfortunately consist of NO new hardware. Seriously Sony!? What's the point? A (hopefully) "more-pocketable" PSP with a sliding screen? The price of this "new" PSP will probably increase too, so i don't see the point in this at all.

Go to this link, if you want to read up on some of the new features that will be in Firefox 3.1. On a side note, Firefox 3.1 will not be available in the first quarter of 2009.

Starcraft 2 Playable, Boffins Gesture-Controlled 3D TV, Samsung S5600, Canadians Can Mind-Read, Kogan Agora

Labels: , , , , , ,

If you really want to play Starcraft 2, you should hop on a plane right now because in Hanover (in Germany), Starcraft 2 will be playable. It will be playable at CeBIT (Centre of Office and Information technology), which is the world's largest computer expo, from March 3 - March 8. I'm craving to play Stacraft 2, but you won't find me scrambling for plane tickets to Hanover because i don't really want to go to Germany.

Also at CeBIT will be something that will make you look extremely stupid. Although, it's still fairly interesting. Since we are so lazy nowadays, who needs to touch screens when you can just pretend you are touching them. This is where "gesture-controlled TVs" come in. The Boffins iPoint TV will display things in 3D without the funky glasses and will allow you to make "simple non-contact gestures" to control your TV.

This is the Samsung S5600. This phone will have Samsung's TouchWiz UI but the specs are unknown. Samsung has kept their mouth shut about this phone. The phone will be made of plastic, so it may be a competitor for the cheap LG Cookie. The phone looks fairly tiny and more on the specs when they get released.

The technology is fairly young, so it's very limited right now. Basically, researchers from the University of Toronto have "developed a brain-scanning headset that can detect a person's preference, with an accuracy of 80%. The headset is fitted with fibre-optic cables that emit infrared light at around the same frequency as a typical TV remote control." As of right now, it will only scan whether or not you like Shania Twain or not. I have no clue why they chose this topic, but if you want to read more go to this link.

The phone you see here is the Kogan Agora. It was supposed to be one of the first available phones running Android, but it got delayed. A new announcement says that the makers of the Kogan Agora have changed the official design of the phone. They decided to drop the QWERTY keypad by replacing it for a full touchscreen. The hardware may stay the same though, since there is no word on the hardware change. I hope the hardware specs change for the better though, but we'll just have to see what events transpire.

A Boring Tech Day

Today was an absolute horrible day for tech. There was absolutely nothing i wanted to talk about and only about 200 items to read. Tomorrow, i'll be back to at least 3 blog posts+ so worries. I'm sick though, so i might cut a few out. I thought i'd tell you guys this because it'd be horrible if i didn't blog today. It would break my streak!! Anyways, i shall go now. I must do my Physics, wish me luck on my quiz tomorrow. I'll probably do terrible, but oh welps. Bye for now, till tomorrow.

New Motorola Phone!!, Trimble Yuma UMPC, GM Is Almost Done, What is TealOS?

Labels: , , ,

Here we have what could be the biggest news of the whole week. A (possible) picture of what could be the next Motorola phone. It looks mighty similar to the iPhone, but don't be fooled because it looks more like the HTC Touch HD. Maybe that's why i love it, even though it upset me that the HTC Touch HD ran WinMo 6.1, which meant epic fail. This phone is not official, but it could be real. It doesn't sport a "Home" button, that is mandatory for future WinMo 6.5 phones, so we can cross that off this list. But, it could be Motorola's first Android device, it could even put the HTC Magic (T-Mobile G2) down the drain. This full touchscreen phone (judging from the pictues) has a 5 megapixel Kodak-branded camera with a xenon flash and a TV-out. This looks too good to be true, especially from Motorola. I was arguing with a friend yesterday about how terrible Motorola's devices have become, but if this gets official i might have to backtrack on those comments. This phone truly looks amazing at the first glance and i'm excited to see whether this phone is real or not. It would be emphatically disappointing to hear that this phone is fake because Motorola has to gain some ground on all of the other devices out there. I wonder why this wasn't at MWC. Motorola's secret device!?

A new Yuma UMPC (Ultra-Mobile Personal Computer) from Trimble has surfaced. It sports a "sunlight-readable" 7-inch touchscreen, has a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a 32GB SSD drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, ExpressCard and SDIO slots, and two "geotag-enabled cameras." There is also no word on the price tag, but Trimble has mentioned that we should see it ship by April. This UMPC actually doesn't look too bad with the "sunlight-readable" touchscreen, the processor, a 32GB SSD, but i don't know why it would need two camera on-board. I guess one on the front and one on the back? I don't know, but it's all about Motorola right now.

GM's share has hit a 74-year low. "GM shares hit a low of $1.52 in early afternoon trading, before rebounding to $1.82 later in the session. The low matched a record set on July 26, 1934, according to the Center for Research in Security Prices at the University of Chicago." GM's share was worth $3.50 a month ago, this was down from $25.54 from a year ago. Talk about a drop, eh?

At the price of $14.95 USD, TealOS will give your old Palm phone a well-needed upgrade. "TealOS incorporates a lot of the navigation and UI components of Palm's new WebOS, but as an all-encompassing skin for older Palm phones." Gizmodo mentioned that it also ran very smooth "even on an underpowered device like the Centro, and is not only pretty but functional as well." This is actually a must have upgrade and reportedly "breathes so much life back into the Centro it might as well be a whole new phone." There you have it, the TealOS mimics the features of WebOS onto your old Palm phone. You can buy it here for the aforementioned price of $14.95 USD. There is also a 30-day trilal, just in case you want to try it out before-hand. Below is a video of TealOS, via Gizmodo.

Nokia N86 Pre-Orders, See A Comet On Monday, HP Will Make WinMo 6.5 Phones, Windows 7 RC 1

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

You can now pre-order the Nokia N86, if you really want to. According to the screenshot, you can see the price of the phone, which is expensive. It's expensive because of the 8MP camera with the Carl Zeiss lens. Anyways, the release date is also leaked on the site, saying that it will be available on July 22, 2009. The N86 looks decent, but when you slide the phone up, it unleashed a ton of ugly. The plasticky-looking and plain-looking keypad just doesn't do the phone any good. I'll pass. Update: you might want to click on the picture for a bigger image.

You will be able to see Comet Lulin from February 23rd - mid March, with the help of binoculars. Lulin will pass Earth and come as close as 38 million miles away. Lulin was first discovered in July 2007 and will appear about "2 degrees south-southwest of Saturn before it disappears out into the dark abyss in mid-March." This photo i have here is a picture of the comet "and the fading red and blue light comes from the X-ray and ultraviolet telescopes, respectively." So, if you want to take a look at that, go ahead. Although, i can't really tell you where 2 degrees south-southwest of Saturn is.

HP has just announced that it will utilize Windows Mobile 6.5 in its future devices. No surprise here. "The company cites WinMo 6.5's 'key enhancements to business productivity, personal messaging and mobile Internet capabilities' plus its 'new visual appeal' as some of the reasons for its continued love of the OS." I guess they didn't mention that it runs slow and is pretty non-responsive. It's not all about the looks and what Microsoft says WinMo 6.5 will do HP. Hop on the Android bandwagon. Then again, it's not like HP really had a choice of what OS to use for their devices.

Rumour has it that the Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 will be made publicly available on April 10. This is amazing news, but could be a rumour. I hope this is true though, cause that means it's less than 2 months away! I love the Windows 7's beta so far, so an RC coming out soon would be greatly appreciated. Maybe i can run Windows 7 on my PC and Android on a secondary notebook / netbook. Hi Asus! Engadget also mentioned that the unicorn is in the picture because that's what they refer to the OS [Windows 7] as. I don't know why.

3DFusion 3DFMax, YouTube Killing Third-Party Downloading, Sony Looking For New Game Machine Testers, Philips News: Net TV, Cinema 21:9 HDTV

Labels: , , , , , ,

We've all heard about those Internet-connected HDTV's at CES, but right now it's all about 3D. That is, 3D without the glasses. Using Philips' WOWvx 3D solution, the 3DFusion 3DFMax display was born. There is no word on the price, contrast ratio, resolution or availability, so be on the lookout for that on a future blog post.

Just like i predicted. With the spawn of YouTube charging its users with a fee for downloads, they are currently on the verge of killing all third-party downloading programs. In the near future, the only way you will be able to download YouTube videos are by paying, which is retarded. Everything is just based on money nowadays. It's a shame. How can Google let this happen? On a side note, Rinontherox (aka hiphoprox) got their account deleted on YouTube because of the whole Warner Bros. issue (most likely). I always watched their videos too, cause of Erin =D. But, their account was "suspended."

Sony is currently "looking for an 'evaluator/assessor' for a 'new game machine.' That is 'part of the PlayStation or PSP series and their peripherals.'" Wow, what could this be Sony? Could it be the Playstation 4? Or maybe the PSP 2? It could even be a PSPhone. Sony's getting our hopes up here and hopefully the "new game machine" will be one of the above. I'm hoping so, at least. I hope it's not some dumb PS3 add-on or something that imitates the Wii in some way.

Philips looks like they are finally ready to jump on the Internet-connected HDTV bandwagon. They are "readying" their Net TV module, which is a box thing. "The box will purportedly bring the web's best content to your HDTV through an easy-to-understand user interface, and the WiFi capability means that you won't have to run an Ethernet cable to your set." Engadget suspects that this Philips HDTV / home entertainment will be limited to Europe. That pretty much summed up what the box is and where it is coming out. Unfortunately, there is no price for the Net TV module, but it is said to be scheduled for an April release.

Remember the Philips Cinema "Ultra-Widescreen" 21:9 HDTV? The TV that "removes those black bars" from your HDTV DVDs and stuff. This "behemoth" is going to start shipping in June, but will cost a whopping $5,045 USD (4,000). Talk about expensive, eh? If you can afford one of these, congratulations. But for us regular people, we'll have to look for something else.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10, Asus Eee PC 1000HE, STD Results Via Text, LG News: Netbook, 12MP Cameraphone

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is finally available on Dell's official website. It will be available on February 26, but you can get your orders in now. You will be getting the Mini 10, which has: "a 10.1-inch display, 802.11b/g WiFi, optional Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI out, an external DVD drive, upwards of 160GB of HDD space, 1GB of RAM, a keyboard that's 92 percent the size of a standard laptop, a multitouch trackpad, 720p media playback, optional WWAN, an internal TV tuner and your choice of a 3-cell (3 hours) or 6-cell (6.5 hours) battery." Call that a sweet deal, why don't you. 6.5 hours of battery life on a Dell notebook. While it may not be as long as the Asus EEE PC 1000HE's projected 9.5-hour battery life, it's still decent. Personally, i like the black and white models, cause i don't really enjoy having vibrant colours on my laptop.

Since i just finished mentioning the Dell Inspiron Mini 10's battery life, i might as well talk about the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. This laptop is now shipping to whoever pre-ordered the netbook. It has a 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor and has a projected battery life of up to 9.5 hours under the "perfectly ideal conditions." It's also under $400 USD and i'm actually considering buying one of these in the summertime or maybe even an upgrade to this. Or i can even buy the Android-based Asus netbook. That would be perfect!

On to the LOL news of the day. This is about getting your STD results sent to your phone. You may be too scared to receive the news that you've got an STD face-to-face so, in London, you can now receive the results via text messaging. It's funny, but at the same time it can attract many people to getting tested. I think the picture is hilarious though because the phone is running Windows Mobile (fail) and the sad face is just icing on the cake.

At MWC LG announced a new netbook. The LG-X120 has pre-loaded Windows XP, the Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, an integrated 1.3MP webcam, 1GB DDR2 RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3 USB ports. This 10.1-inch screened netbook also has a matte surface, so that it won't attract any of those nasty fingerprints. The best feature about this netbook is the "Smart-On" interface, "which basically allows the user to access the most frequently used programs just a few seconds after hitting the power button, without waiting for the operating system to completely load the desktop." This feature is currently trying to plague all PCs, notebooks and netbooks, so it's good to see that LG is trying it out. We all hate waiting 1 - 2 minutes in order for our desktops to fully load, so good job LG for satisfying our needs.

LG also said something else at MWC. LG mentioned that they are going to be releasing a 12MP cameraphone. Woop-ti-doo. No one cares anymore. People need to wake up and realize that megapixels aren't everything. I want optical zoom, so the first company to surprise me with optical zoom on their phone wins. Get on that LG. I still haven't seen or heard from Samsung's 12 megapixel cameraphone, so who knows when that will be released. The Sony Ericsson Idou was the only physical 12MP cameraphone that was available.
