iriver Outlines Future Devices, K2 PMP(?) Runs Android, e-Book Reader / Internet Tablet Also Expected Next Year

Labels: , , , , , ,

iriver could have a busy year next year. According to some leaked future plans, they plan to create an Android-based iPod Touch rival, the iriver K2. The K2 supposedly has: a 3.5-inch touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a digital TV tuner. It's being touted as an iPod Touch rival, but in the picture above it looks like it's dialing a number, so it could be an Android-based smartphone.

iriver's future plans also unveil a possible e-book reader and an internet tablet. As of right now, any details about it is scarce. All of these devices are scheduled for a 2010 release, but the price hasn't been outlined yet. Excited?

Motorola CEO Outlines Future Smartphone + Android Plans

Labels: , , , , , ,

Motorola's CEO, Sanjay Jha, has just mentioned that a majority of Motorola's devices in the future will be smartphones and they're looking to Android to help dig themselves out of their hole. He mentioned that they are launching 2 Android-based phones for the holidays - possibly and probably the Sholes / Shules (above) and the Morrison (below) - and they will be launched on two different carriers. This would mean that the Shules / Sholes will be hitting the US on a different carrier than the Morrison, which is rumoured to hit T-Mobile on October 21st.

Motorola may not be my favourite phone manufacturer right now - leave that up to Samsung - but it looks like they could have an exciting future as they make a slow push towards Android. Sanjay Jha also mentioned that they will be launching "many more Android phones in Q1 2010" which is a great thing. Most of them probably won't be fit for me though because I'm only interested in the high-end phones out there; Motorola, on the other hand, is looking to create low-end Android-based smartphones in the future.

Intel to Discontinue Their Z-Series Atom CPUs by the End of the Year?

Labels: ,

Apparently, Intel is going to stop shipping out their Z-Series Atom CPUs. However, Intel has mentioned that they will "fulfill orders already placed by Acer, Asus, and MSI." It looks like Asus' Eee PC T91 and T101H will be unaffected with this discontinuation of Intel's Z-Series Atom CPUs. And remember that Sony Vaio P "refresh" scheduled for the Fall? Well, it looks like it could be running an N-Series Atom since the Z-Series Atom CPUs could be discontinued by the end of the year.

China Turning Away From Intel, Leaning Towards AMD and VIA CPUs For Large-Screened "Netbooks"

Labels: , , , , , , ,

In an effort to slim the differences between netbooks and notebooks - as if it weren't confusing enough already - manufacturers in China are going to turn their attention away from Intel CPUs because they restrict the size of the displays - Intel Atom CPUs can't be used in anything over 12-inches. Instead, China is looking to produce future larger netbooks / normal-sized notebooks with underpowered CPUs; so they're going to turn to AMD and VIA CPUs to do this dirty work.

Low-End LG KG376 Has 1MB of Internal Storage and No Way to Expand it...

Labels: ,

The LG KG376 is a new clamshell handset. This flip phone has underwhelming specs, like: a 1.5-inch display with a 128 x 128 resolution, 1MB of on-board storage, and stereo FM radio. Yup, a low-end handset with no way to expand that memory. That sucks. We still don't know when and how much this will be available for, but I don't think anyone will really care. It's not 2001 anymore.

Windows Mobile 6.5 / Windows Phone Demoed on Video, Zune Phone Rumour Denied Again

Labels: , , , , , , ,

This video actually outlines a final version of Windows Mobile 6.5 aka Windows Phone. Other features that are also demonstrated in the video is the Windows Marketplace. Clearly, multitouch support is not in WinMo 6.5, but it will, apparently, be in Windows Mobile 7 so that's definitely something to look forward to. You can check out the video demo on an HTC Touch Diamond 2 below on WMPowerUser - you're warned, it's 10-minutes long.

Yeah, you've heard the rumours about the Microsoft Zune Phone, but they've been denied again. This time they were denied by Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Chief, Robbie Back, and Chief Executive, Steve Ballmer, himself. They mentioned that Microsoft "would do better" focusing on "software rather than any hardware." At this point, the Zune Phone is unlikely.

AT&T Ad Shows Nokia E71x Running on BlackBerry OS -- Wait, What?

Labels: , , , ,

Yeah, the Nokia E71x has been on AT&T for a while, but it's the ad that is extremely funny. Whoever did the editing on this photo must've confused the E71x for a BlackBerry since they slapped the BlackBerry OS on the display. I just though it'd be funny to mention this. Too bad I don't live in the US because I'd want to check this out in person.

Sony Cuts PS3 Production Costs By 70%

Labels: , , ,

According to Sony's CEO, Nobuyuki Oneda, the PlayStation 3 costs them 70% less than when they launched it back in 2006. This is great news for future adapters of the PS3 - myself included. Since it costs less for Sony to make the PS3, this could mean that a price cut is in the works. And, of course, there's still rumours buzzing around about the PS3 Slim - like it hitting Amazon. We'll have to see what Sony does to lure some more users in the future.

Update: To make things even more interresting, the Amazon.de listing for the PS3 Slim now has a picture!! OMG, it has to be real now!

Update: The picture is actually confirmed to be a fake "fan-made picture", so the PS3 Slim may not look this way. Keep in mind that it's only the picture here that's fake. The PS3 Slim could actually be on its way soon.

Update on July 3: The listing has just been pulled from Amazon, according to G4 TV. Clicking on the links above will now give you an error.
