PC vs Mac Ad III: Buying a Sony Vaio For Gaming?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Windows decided to switch it up and go with a 12-year old boy as the main spokesperson in this ad. He was originally looking for a laptop with speed, lots of HDD storage, and gaming capabilities. Basically, he ends up choosing a Sony Vaio over a Mac because it has a Blu-ray drive. I may not know much about the Sony Vaio that they chose, but last time I checked Sony Vaio's tend to be a bit on the expensive side and I know they aren't exactly for gaming. I think it was the wrong choice for the family, but they seemed happy anyway. Hey, Microsoft! Sign me up for your next ad, MDG just isn't cutting it... Yes, I am fully aware that you probably don't even know the brand MDG. It's a Canadian thing - just about the worst PC brand out there.

Well Isaiah he actually bought the same model sony vaio that i have lol just i have the white one thats the black one (my bro has that one lol) and well actually they arent that expensive depending on which model you get mine without the blu ray cost me $800 with dedicated a dedicated graphics card (ati mobility radeon HD 3400), intel core 2 duo P8400 (2.26ghz), 3gb ram, 250gb HDD. for about $1100 + tax you can add on the blu ray player. you can build your own and they can get pricey like my bro's but his is a beast for a laptop but still about the same price as a mac pro but his would smoke a mac pro in performance. so these vaio's are pretty affordable and do offer a lot of performance and i find myself loading things a lot faster on my vaio then other people do on their desktops.

if i had to rate my vaio /10 for the money i paid

performance 8/10
style 10/10 :D
Gaming 8/10

not to mention i love the screen size and they keep the thing pretty light.

sony boggs it down with all their software but i disabled a lot of the services and unistalled almost all their software. it runs great

as you can see i love my vaio lol

How'd you figure out that they got the same Vaio that you have? Just judging on looks? I was looking for the exact model somewhere, but couldn't find it. But, that is good that you gave me some feedback because those specs actually aren't that bad for a Vaio. Maybe I underestimate them sometimes. I think Sony - as a brand - just have most of their stuff overpriced, so I guess I already had that mentality going into it.

well i dont know the exact model they got but i know the series its the Sony VGN-FW series which i mean can range in pricing like i said. mine being one of the lower models.

most of the vaio's have a pretty destinct look and also just the fact that its a 16.4" screen (there arent too many laptops with that size usually 15 or 17") i knew it was the same series.

i used to work at best buy in the computer department so of course i had my eyes peeled on any good laptops coming in and well when i saw these vaio's i was like damn thats a pretty good looking laptop and then i saw the specs and they looked pretty good. HDMI output full 1080p screen, 16:9 aspect ratio which works really nice when watching HD movies on it (just a pain in my ass when looking for wallpaper :S lol).

but overall i do agree sony's products tend to be overpriced and you pay a bit for the name. On a side note while i worked at best buy i had a conversation with an HP representative and i asked him what he though about Sony laptops (we were kinda friends so he gave his honest opinion) and he said he thinks sony puts a but more work into their laptops with more quality parts compared to other manufacturers.

in the end it all comes down to style preference and what you can get for the best deal really.

i wanted something a little more stylish but it couldnt be a mac and well lets face it HP, Compac, TOshiba, Gateway, and acer dont really have the most stylish laptops being sold at best buy lol

Rofl, that's true. Personally, I don't even know which brand I even like anymore. Thinking of maybe scooping up a netbook for Uni, but I don't know. 8+ hours of battery life is just really convincing enough for me right now. I'm not really a fan of gaming on my laptop, so it doesn't really matter to me. But anyways, I might have to stick with this junk for a while. No money. =(
